January 5th day 46 (day 10 @ 12/12)

In the past two days she started to look a bit droopy. The lower leaves wilted and I cut them off. Today the top leaves were starting to look droopy. Then I kind of figured that I can't watch her die just like that and so I decided to do something about that.
What I did was this - I took another pot, filled it with fresh soil mix, took her with the rootball out of the old pot, shook the rootball well, so that much of the compacted soil around it fell off (the soil around the roots was really compact, no wonder the roots couldn't breathe). And transplanted her in the fresh soil and watered her. Within like 10 or 20 minutes she already looked better, so I LST'd her again. And I also took some pictures.

take her out of flowering and let her veg! shes really not big enough to be flowered yet and she is under stress, if you put her into flower you could do more harm than good. remember ... water sparingly, roots need air just as much (if not more) than water!!!!!! you should really be using perlite in that soil mix aswell....

10 days.....hmmmm probably not, plants dont tend to start forming flowers until about 2-3 weeks in... they just start growing more....
i did think she had only been under 12/12 for a few days or so which would have been fine. 10days..... im not certain to say for definite....
i still think she needs more vegging and perlite in the soil for sure.

Okay, whatever, I just set the light to 20/4.
I suppose a week or two more of veg won't hurt.

I still haven't visited the shop where they sell perlite. It's a bit far from where I live, but I'll try to do that some time next week.

Peace.

well.... i have spoken to a few other growers... they say it wont cause too much harm if you let it veg for a lot longer as it needs enough time for its hormones to adjust back to vegging and then more time before flipping back to flowering. so let her veg for about 4 extra weeks (she wont grow the whole of this time as her hormones will be readjusting to the vegging light cycle)
if not just keep to the flowering cycle and pray that she gives a really healthy big stretch towards the 3rd week of flower.

Hmm. If so, than I'll probably set the timer back to 12/12. What will be, will be. I really don't expect a big yield anymore, because my friend who I bought the seeds together with, has buds forming on his grapefruit already. So my plant is growing slooooow. I'd rather have something to smoke in the spring. Plus, I am already working on my veg room. I'm building a simple DWC hydro setup.

So - yeah, 12/12 continues.

something to smoke ? probably wont get more than 2 spliffs off a plant that small. its pathetic.....

and its clear you havent been reading this site or taking proper care of your plant.

next time use decent potting compost, not shitty garden soil. Dont over water it and dont top the fucking thing when its 2" tall and leaves are yellowing. your lucky it didnt die!!

out of interest how tall is the one your friends growing? another 2" wonder? or did he let it veg to a respectable 6-7" or more ?

Whoa, dude, relax a bit.
Well, I have been reading this site a lot. And I have seen some people even do 12/12 from seed. I did fuck up a lot of things, I am aware of that. I could have vegged it for a bit longer, but I was told that grapefruit is supposed to stretch a lot in flowering. And I just started flowering, so it should stretch.
But, only time will tell. I don't want this plant to take up the flowering cabinet too much, as I already said, this month I'm working on a hydro setup.

Plus, today she looks good, the transplanting did help, I guess.

P.S. I'm not using shitty garden soil, I'm using soil I bought in a gardening store.

As for my friends plant, I haven't seen it for a while. He vegged it for 2 or 3 weeks I think, but his plant grew a lot better than mine, didn't have any of the problems mine did.

Peace.

Hi Riseup!
I have to agree with NG2k, you should definitely let it veg in 18/6 a few more weeks.
36 days of veg may seem a lot, but you have to bear in mind that each time you top the plant it gets stressed and needs a couple of days, if not a week, to recover from it and start growing normally again. Even more so if you top all the sites at the same time.
Be patient my friend and youll be rewarded, let it recover from all the bruises and grow a bit sturdier before going 12/12, you wont regret it :2cents:
remember though that they will double to triple in height from the moment you strart flowering till harvest, but tying them down like you have helps a lot with that
That said, do what feel comfortable with, a lot of valuable knowledge is learned by trial and error anyways, and also by browsing and searching these forums :lurk:

Good job anyway, keep on growing and good luck!

Peace

you will be ok if you continue under 12/12. i was just saying that you should have vegged a bit longer, bit late to turn back tho really. you will have learnt a lesson for the future tho.
good luck :lurk:

he might've just gotten better plant genetics from his seed on the coin toss. I like to think vegging begins at the end of week 2. After the plant has established itself (which looks like your picture there) is where i would "start" vegging period. so yeah, a good 2-3 more weeks would've given it more time to grow a lil and mature. I know my post is kind of repetative but i thougt i'd throw in my .02

Hello,
I think that You did good to put her into flowering. Dont you people know anything about grapefruit strain?? Go to www.femaleseeds.nl and you will find that info on grapefruit:
A new style sativa; early maturing, fast flowering and maximum yielding. Buds have a soft smell of grapefruit, sweet taste and intense tropical high. This is a 75% C’99 x 25% strong fruity sativa, stabilised on early maturity for some generations now. Plants grow up to 50 to 60 cm, when put under 12/12 hrs after one week of germination.

So keep up the work and hope to see some more pics of Yours girl.

we are not suggested he made a bad move due to putting into flowering too early, we arent suggesting he made a bad move at all. but i can see that it states grapefruit can grow up to 50cm after 1 week of veg before flower...... but riseup has topped many times, hit a few problems with his soil mix and possible a couple of deficiencies too.... therefore it needs time to recover, get a decent rootball up and running and get a set of fan leaves on her before she can flower. riseup is also using CFL's and not an HPS so a goal of a 60cm grapefruit would be a real challenge.
i am not knocking riseup's efforts, not at all, just advising that due to topping and it being slightly behind in size due to various problems, it would have been a slightly better move to let her recover from all the above before turning out the lights.....

I'm waiting for my biobizz bio-grow and bio-bloom in the mail. Should come any day now.

Right now I think she gets her nutrients from the soil mix, I recently transplanted her in fresh soil, so that should provide her with nutes until the biobizz nutes get here. Other than that I made an organic tea once, but I didn't like the smell too much (I don't know if it's supposed to smell like that though), so I might have made that wrong.

So when the biobizz nutes come I'll give her bio-grow and bio-bloom with every watering.

And, got my aquarium air pump in the mail today, that's for my upcoming experimental organic dwc hydro setup thing, still no nutes though :(

Great job on nursing her back to health riseup. She looks 10x better than just a week ago. What was your organic tea mix? Usually teas do smell kind of funky but it doesnt mean theyre no good. Your plants look to be a couple days away from a feeding but if those nutes dont arrive I would make some more tea. Just a thought. Great job man...keep it green. :D
