MARLO's 2011 WINTER VERTICAL

Hi Marlo at what point do you veg vertically? Do you clone horizontally? I have some plants that have taken 19 days to clone and have been vegging horizontally for 24 days about 10 inches tall. Can I switch them to veg horizontally? If yes will there be an adjustment time? Also I'm planning on growing 4 plants with 5 bulbs in an x patten, do I need to veg this way or can I veg with 1 bulb in the middle?

looking great.

what sizes are most of the plants from soil level?

Unfortunately, all different sizes. The shortest plants have buds as low as 8" from the top of the pot to the top of the screen.
The taller plants lowest buds are about 16" from the top of the pot and extend 10-12 inches above the top of the screen. Not very uniform in there.

Marlo bro! Insperational man, Soon as I wrap up my Big Blue I'm going to copy what you've done here. My space is about the same size just about 18" wider. Good damn job Marlo.

Thanks DiggDugg :) That 18 inches is alot. Wish I had it. You'd be able to run 600's.

A plague of buds has been visited upon you. Holy cripity crap that is crazy full, congratulations man.
Thanks MC. When I'm standing there looking at it, I see alot of places where its not full at all. This is where having variety is working against me.Next time I'll have even buds all the way around

These were grown from seed (except DSD) horizontally. They were veg'd for a long time under some CFL's until the flower room filled up.
They were finally in the vert room and had abt 2 weeks of vert veg or so. Plants were of varying sizes, since this was from seed. I'm not doing that anymore. Too many varying phenos to be efficient.

The only change you will see from switching to vert veg, is the lower shoots will perk up instantly....and the "front" of the plant will begin to be more productive. That's when you can start to trim/train depending on the size of your plant.

With your setup, veg'n with all the lights on may not be necessary...I wouldn't, but it would promote much faster, even growth.

Incredible work, Even the buds furthest from the lights seem to be well developed...

Nice!!!

With vert, damn near all the bud on the outside of the plant, top to bottom will be A+ quality. Even at reasonable distances. IMO the issue is only with the inside buds developing. This is dependent on strain, light intesity, and grower skill. All help to fight the evil larf!

Marlo I'd like to offer my apologies for having missed this thread, this place can be so big and I can be so distracted sometimes hell....just a stoner I guess!!:) I've put myself into some interesting predicaments with big vert setups over the last few months and one thing for sure, you can say good bye to larf!! My interest has been so piqued by some things I've seen my lights come on and the street lamps dim, too many experiments I reckon...nice room room though, reading the thread has given me some more ammo, Check ya'!!:)

Marlo do you do any defoliating in your grow room? Just wondering?

Yes definitely. Probably not as much as I should or could. But at least once a week, I will remove 150-200+ fan leaves. I do it continuously from before flower until day 50 or so. Never really getting to the point of stripping tho. This round being from seed, some plants didn't respond as well to it as others. I find it works very well with diesels and diesel hybrids, which also happen to do well in vert grows.

IMO plants that naturally have less foliage react better to trimming. Most of my very leafy plants seem to be stunted more with each trimming. This is a big factor for me when pheno selecting.

Glad to see you in the vert forum CHACO. You are one of the better growers on IC and have been spreading knowledge around here for years. I've picked up tons of info from you myself.

Very interesting so you think diesels perform well in Vertical grows. Funny I was just purusing SB and looking at some diesel hybrids to possibly try down the road, maybe I will have to move them up the grow schedule.

Thank you Marlo:tiphat:

props man, followed all your projects on here - seems like we're about even time wise on this run.

i too have noticed diesels respond well to defoliation and vertical growth. i have actually decided to only run my diesels vert, if I want to flower out my master kush or la confidential cross i will do so horizontally.

i'm gettin scared though, i've never seen an ECSD nugget the size of an ear of corn.. but it's gonna happen this round.
