Thanks man, I feel like it's a quantum leap forward from my last (1st) run. I got 95% of the wrinkles of this system ironed out, the only thing that's been bugging the shit out of me, is still having to add Hydroguard. The guys system that I modeled my system after (cravin morehead) doesn't have to use things like hydroguard. And he hasn't been around lately to show me what I'm doing wrong. I did switch back to tap water from RO water, but I'm still getting cloudy water and growth inside the resivoir. And as I understand it, cravin doesn't have to do any rez changes. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Yeh iv been looking into bio buckets and read both your journals, have you thought maybe you need to start fresh again and do the 2 week run without plants to let the bacteria establish properly?

Just a thought mate

Yeah, that could be it. I will be doing some upgrades on the system after this run, so I'll have the chance to reset everything.

I should also have the new 1000 watt bulb and ballast, a carbon filter and a CO2 tank and regulator by the start of the next run.

I've been doing a little thinking about how I could maximize the space in my tent a little better and what I came up with is to take the stand out from underneath the buckets and place the bucket on the ground, and then have a dedicated second pump in the reservoir that just pumps water up, maybe 5 feet, and then drops it down back into the reservoir, via pvc tubing. I feel like that could give me another foot or so of plant height. In that case I might just run 4 buckets instead of 6, and grow some monters. Just sme ideas. Glad to have you around nish.

brew tea to take advantage of microbe multiplication. don't have to buy as much bennies!
and for me, variety is the spice of life!

Heeeeey! Thanks for stoppin by homie! And im happy to rep the guy that helped me a fuckton, you deserve it. Fuck, if it were not for you and toke, I wouldnt be puffin on ANY smoke right now, bet money lol.

Something I been thinking about is whether or not to add any of that tea, and I think youre right, Ill prolly hold off on that. But ill hold onto the fixings just in case that bacteria rears its head again. So far everything is looking clean as hell after being running for 3 days now. I figure the seeds wont be here till next week, so ill just give it the two weeks. The big thing ive had trouble getting over is the fact that you cant see the bennes so its hard for me to just "trust" they are around in my system. I know they are, just something I been trying to get my mind around.

One other thing, when you start seeds do you start in like rockwool in starter trays, then move them to the buckets? Or seeds in rockwool and right to the buckets before the pop? Just curious what your ritual is, because I need to get a good routine going and not sure what to do. What ppm of nutes and when?

One thing on that black lava rock, I never could track any down. I checked menards, home depot and lowes. Not even seasonal. So I may end up having to order some on the next run. I figured the lava rock is better than the hydroton i used last round, and i did notice that some of the red lava rock i got is super dark, like black. Not sure if its true black rock, but sure looks like it.

Ive heard that green light bulbs will not fuck up the light cycle if you have them in the grow room. True? Need verification/clarification.

Raz hows everything coming with your run? Im super jelly right now that youre in flower. Suuuuuper jelly! Dont judge me, im confidently hetero lol.

Oh and im gonna start posting my favorite smokin/chillin music im diggin at the time. I think some of you will like it. A lot of its gonna be rap, but its chill rap, but there wil be others too.

Hello, sir! And first off, thank you for your service, marine. Damn glad to meet'cha! I'm Sponge, new on the forums, and also a biiiiig fan of BT and the biobuckets. I was sad to see that he hasn't posted in a number of years, but was so very relieved when I'd seen recent posts from a few of the people also inspired by this system. First time grower, and this will be the way I attain my smoke. :)

Not sure if someone mentioned this, or if you were unaware, but my understanding of the lava rock was that the red color indicted a high silica content? Aside from the porous surface (I think I also recall something about pumice having it's own natural microorganisms as well!) the light weight saves your roots from being crushed, no messy clay balls. I was curious if perhaps you wanted to find low silicate black rock, or maybe another type of black lava rock that I am unaware of? (I must... Learn... Most efficient method...)

:tiphat:

And, I don't mean to post back to back... Hope that's not a bad manner on forums (first one) but! In regards to your cloudy water problem... I've not built my buckets yet (can't find a 7x3x7 tent or smaller with still 2.5-3' in width... >.< May have to settle for a 3x3x6... Less buckets... Cheaper cost overall! So that's a plus.) buuut I wanted to try and help you solve your cloudy water and growth issues with just an observation...

The Ancient Forest (I also looked into, found out was soil, then was leery to add it to a hydrotea recipe I'm trying to modify, and it's a weak one compared to the stuff you guys are concocting haha) made me curious... I was wondering if maybe residual components of that were causing it..? Since it's an organic component in a solution... I don't know! :( Maybe I'm dumb, stoned..., stumbed. But aside from that! Can someone PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALMIGHTY GAIA TELL ME IF HYGROZYME IS OKAY! I swear, people either love or hate this stuff, and I got some. Not too familiar on enzymes, but I bought it in regards to Greenmorpho's 3 Week Flush, and liked the sound of organic tasting hydro geared towards rolling.

Hey love, welcome to the show. Happy to have ya. Post away bro, we dont mind here. Thanks for the kind words as well, i was happy to do it. I got paid to blow shit up with a tank, doesnt get much better for me!

Ok, so as far as the lava rock im running, Im still just using the red, still havent been able to find the elusive black lava rock. What do you think the lower silica content might do? Im curious now. Cravin had always said he used a mix of both red and black, and said he found it at home depot, but it might be a regional thing. Even my hydro shop guy cant find any. Might have to do a special order on that for the next run, just hope the shipping doesnt kill me on something that heavy.

Now as far as the bennies from that hydro tea. Early on i did try out the tea, but decided to try and let them develop naturally. It did make my water cloudy, but i never actually ran the tea with the girls in the buckets. I did a full flush of the system before i put them in. As far as the hygrozyme, that was a part of my original tea, but cravin had told me that it can compete with the bennies. So i havent used that either.

Mojave, thanks for stopping in as well. I see what youre saying about the bennie additives, but the way i understand it, when operating properly, this system doesnt need any additives, only nutes, and that is what im really trying to achieve. Right now, im just using hydroguard as a band aid.

Love, let me know if you need any help with the setup or design of your system, ill be doing my second rework of of mine after this run is over, so ive seen some of the things to look out for.

Heres a few pics of the progress... Things are starting to get HEAVY, getting lots of lean on some of the branches. They arent the BIGGEST in terms of size, but god damn are they DENSE!

Thank you for the warm reception. :) My novice thoughts on this silica thing: With nutrients or mixes that contain potassium silicate tend to burn plans from my understanding, and my guess as to why this is would be because potassium silicate has a pH of 11! Silica is phenomenal for the structure and defense of your plants, so my hypothesis is this: A mixture of both types of pumice(red/black) would provide a balanced and natural source of silica, most likely eliminating the need for a nutrient additive like GH's Armor Si.

And absolutely! (Fantastic looking ladies by the way. They're getting ready to ditch the training bras.) I would very much like to have your opinion and guidance on how I'm going to construct my own bio buckets. :) No more than four, and about a 1300$ budget. Sorry to be brief, can't stand typing on my phone...

Hey love. Ok so i do agree that a mix of black and red would be optimal. The only thing im not seeing is how that would affect the opacity of the water. When i first put the red that is in now, i did rinse the hell out of them. Ive been getting a ph of around 5.5 or so on the rare occasions when i do check the ph. I definitely have see the benefits of the silica in the rocks, especially in the stems. Much beefier than the last run i did using hydroton.

Speaking of training bras, i just went downstairs to check on the girls, and when i opened the tent, my #2 girl had almost collapsed because of all the weight. I think i caught it just in time to save it before she went completely over and started tearing roots. I think because the stem is over an inch and a half at the base, is the reason why she didnt go completely over. So i reinforced the main stem with some zip ties and got her back upright again. Really hope everything is good, cause she will be my second biggest yielder if she finishes out. Im really excited about the gram to watt ratio im going to pull on this run. Like i said, theyre not huge buds, but damn are they dense as hell.

Wanted to give a quick nod to a great thread i found. Its a thread about trying to find that great trippy weed i used to smoke back in highschool, but seems to be absent from the majority of weed that gets passed abound these days. Theyve been talking about a strain named Zamaldelica, that i think ill run in the next few that i do. Heres a link...

Hopefully Cravin chimes in about the lava rock at some point, would like to have a third opinion. A naturally low pH around 5.5 isn't too bad at all. I recall hydro's nutrient availability chart is a bit different than how nutrients are available at particular pH levels in soil. I'm very glad you saved your lady! That sounds horrible. I'd be freaking the hell out, haha. Personally, I search for euphoric and mind tingling highs. You know, the kinds that get you studying or playing really sweet music just based on how it makes you feel like you're in "the zone" (danja zooone!). Trippy? Never had any. But my dream is to cultivate Panama Red one day. :3

I might try pumice stone, they are a type of volanic rock not sure what they contain but i use them in my fish tank for bio filtration, they are also not as sharp as lava rocks but im pretty sure they have more surface area ...

One issue is the weight i guess, pumice is extremely light so probaly wont support the plant aswell as lava rock, though a google search indicates pumice does contain silica

Heres a paper on a biofilter for a tomato hydro system it uses pozzalana(?) as a bio media and from what i can gather pozzolana is pumice stone

I feel like the pumice stone might be a viable option. Im still looking for some black lava rock and trying to get it ordered asap, because we are officially two weeks from the supposed finish date. Im trying to get it in on the next run. I do feel like the lava rock would have just as much surface area as pumice stone, but it looks like there are more holes in lava rock, therefore more areas to hide them bennies.

Im happy to say it looks like i got to my girl and got her back upright in time. Shes looking just fine.

Did a rez change today, water was getting super cloudy. Really hoping that will be fixed next go around. Those additives are expensive, a 1000mL bottle of the hydroguard is 35 bucks. Not tryin to buy that shit anymore than i have to.

The type of trippy weed im talking about has an almost psychedelic feel to it when you smoke it. Had a few times back in the day, and when you took that first hit, it just transported you. Its a treat, but its super hard to find these days.

I appreciate the knowledge guys. Now my buddy from the marine corps i deployed with is on his way over, havent seen him in 10 years. Going to get blasted! Hide yo wife....hide yo kids...

It's amusing, that Antoine Dodson thing originated in my hometown... XD No joke. Starts with an H, ends in a -ville. As for the Hydroguard, I have it as well, but I'm curious to learn how you are using it in your reservoir changeouts. I believe that yes, you should continue to introduce bennies throughout changes, but I also think that there should be some sort of balance. Perhaps you're using too many bennies, too few, I've no clue personally. But I initially bought hydroguard with the intention of benefiting from the particular strain of bactera that it contains "bacillus amyliloquiens" as I had read something that mentioned this particular strain of bacillus multiplies at phenomenal levels (4x the rate, but then again, just something I read with no clue of it's actual authenticity) so I thought maybe that would help my clones take off from the get go, and perhaps I would need to inoculate my crops as often, or at all. Still learning about bacteria, I'm afraid.

So far ive been using the hydroguard at about 50 ml per week, and 50 after every rez change. Now i wonder if the hydroguard isnt multiplying so fast that its actually adding to the cloudiness.

Update time again!

Before I get with the pics, I just want to take a second to pat myself on the back. Ive only been growing for just over a year, and i feel like ive made giant leaps in terms my growing abilities. Anyone who saw pics or read my last (first) run knows what i mean. That run was nothing to write home about. But this run.... this one im truly proud of. Wasnt the easiest time, this time around, but it all turned out extremely well. All that being said, I didnt do it alone. So thanks to all the people that contributed their time, knowledge and interest on this thread. Super proud of myself!

On with the pics...

I decided to try my hand and making infused vaping ejuice. Ill let you know how it turns out. Really excited about it.

This is a horizontal take pic, they are getting so damn HEAVY! Everytime i look at them, I hear that fat joe song - Lean Back. And those trichromes just sparkle.

Few more misc pics.

Ill be starting harvest this sunday. The 60 day mark.

Heeeeeey! Been a week or two since i last updated. Well i decided to let them run the full 75 days instead of 60. They definitely packed on some extra weight.

Did a rez change today and it brought the ppms down to about 350 to attempt a slight flush. I will be cutting everything this up coming thursday. I also decided to do a full cut and not reveg as i need to do some upgrades to the system and will be doing a little renovating and will people in and out. Im really sad too because Im really wishing i could keep my purple girl. She is looking to finish with the top weight by a good amount. She has also really been pushing out the purple tones in the bud leaves. Hard to see in this pic but I will post more after the cut.

Few other misc pics

So I also have been taking a few samples of each one to see how the length of time you let them go, will affect the high. And god damn..... Its by far the best that I have ever tried. Strongest too. Im really glad I went with my instinct to run this strain, because it turned out amazing. Its sooo pungent, and there are very distinct fruity tones to the smell, but then OG creeps in behind that and slams the skunk down. Super dense too, when I go to grind it up, its soo dense and sticky, its like trying to grind up a year old gummy bear.

And the stone man... A decent bong rip and theres no creepin with this one. The OG smacks your head and your body starts to tingle. Really really heady at first, but after about 45 min the blueberry takes over and you just feel peaceful. I just cant get over how strong this stuff is. The white widow x big bud i ran before doesnt hold a candle to this, but then again this round went much smoothing and in a much better setup. Either way this stuff is blowin my mind.

I got some bubble bags that I ordered off ebay. Theyre made by bubble bag dude and sold for like $50. I didnt want to spend hundreds on the genuine bubble bags. Anyway i ran a test batch of the trim ive been getting from the samples and everything went real well. I got a few good balls worth of hash. Cant wait to run all the trim through and make some better ejuice than what i made a few weeks ago. It wasnt bad, just real green tasting, not in a good way.

So the next update will be after the final cut. So I hope to have a good news update soon. Thanks for following alongs all.
