Marijuana Stealth Cabinet (NGB) - as seen on OG

Hi,
This is the work of a friend who had an idea of improving the original NGB cabinet design. It is called NGB Plus Cabinet. This is a front view. I'm uploading it so you can comment on the prototype, and see if it can be improved some more.
I will try my best to explain the new additions. They were added due to the following shortcomings of the original NGB design:
1) Airflow
2) Heat
3) Utility room size
The resulting cabinet is a little bit bigger, thus additional funds are required to build this, though not by much.
An explanation of the new design:
Section A: The Veg Room
Width was increased by 1 "to accommodate for the sliding railings. The sliding drawer is 9".
Height was increased by 2" to accommodate the shelf height and at most 1" of headroom for mothers.
Section B: The Pipe Room
This is a new room, used for holding the pipes. Its purpose is to make the cabinet stealthier, as it draws air from the bottom of the cabinet, which is raised by 2". No more side holes, although the holes in the mother room could be placed on the back of the cabinet. Coldest air is on the bottom of the floor. Also, raising the cabinet allows airflow on the bottom which may cool the whole setup. The front bottom may be covered by a mask, while the back may be covered by a grill which will filter big dust particles that may enter the cabinet. The pipe room may act as a cooling room, and a buffer between the veg room and flowering room, which may reduce the temp. This room may not have a back, which will allow further cooling. The front can be sealed, no need for a door.
Section C: The Flowering Room
Width was increased by 1" to accommodate for the sliding railings. The sliding drawer is 25".
Height was increased by approx 3", to allow for the height of the shelf. Total height is determined by the type of plywood used. Here is a max width of 1", which is a huge plywood, but it's the maximum reasonable width. A 5/8" plywood for carcass, and 3/4" for the sliding drawers is recommended.
Section D: The Utility Room
Height was increased by 0.5" and width by approx 6", depending on the type of plywood used. This is a big improvement as it may fit the ballasts, plugs, wires, as well as a decent size carbon filter with a decent 6" inline fan.
The pipes for veg. and flowering room are 2". This size is used because the cabinet will never be 100% airtight, so the vacuum effect will also draw air from any imperfections in the cabinet, thus not allowing air to escape that way. The flowering room has a 6" vent which will draw air via the air cooled reflector (most air-cooled reflectors to have a 6" opening for cooling).
This prototype was never used for building a cabinet, but the design addresses some of the shortcomings of the original. I submit it to you for consideration and critique. The drawing is almost to scale, with the plywood at maximum width of 1". This is not the recommended width.

There are many people that love the NGB cab. Many have built their own versions of it because it is a good system. If you want to build your own and you are absolutely convinced that any modification you make on the original design will improve your harvest by even 0.1 gr/w then by all means do it man!!!

I am still a bit confused on the air cooled hood. Did he cut a hole in the back side? I could never get a clear view. If you could explain that would be great!

Hello All....Ok i built this box with the same specs but with a different blower. I'm using a S&P TD-100 inline fan, and the air flow in this box rocks!! However, I getting 100+ temps. WAYYYY TOOO HOT!!! what did I do wrong...the box is located in a garage thats about 95 degrees.
PS....MAD PROPS TO THE DESIGNER OF THIS BOX.

You've answered your own question. The box is always going to be a few degrees hotter than the ambient temps in the room. So really, being 5 degrees over ambient is pretty darn good for an enclosed system. You're going to need to AC that box somehow, or move it to a cooler space.
Glad to see the thread is still active. Hard to imagine how many growers this design has inspired. I'm but only one...

hats off to ngb this is gotta be the best grow cab i've seen to date....damn nice, cuz i live in a small, densely populated country with tons of smokers and this is the only way to grow safely. when we grow outside, we grow four crops; one for the bugs, one for the thieves, one for the police and one you.....thats our rule of thumb, cuz one if not all will getcha.

NGBHey first of all thanks for this, this is amazing for me, a first time grower. I do have some questions however. How does his light get cooled off? I assume he used cooling hood, but I can't see where the holes are. I assume he didn't use ducting so did he use pvc? Did he just leave the holes open? Wouldn't that burn the plants? Lastly, can you use any piece of glass for the bottom of the hood or is there some type of special "superclear" glass or somethin?
He's using cold garage air to cool. The hood is open to the cab, no glass. A 150 only needs a couple inches of space between it and the canopy
The bigger issue is, there's no scrubber. Unless you're in the boonies with no visitors allowed, that's a VERY bad thing. A scrubber will add considerable resistance and will require greater intake. Check out mtnjohn's cabin(et) to see how he modded the NGB for scrubbing.

A cabs fan will keep it with Xº of room temperature (depending on the math). Minus an AC unit, the cab will always be warmer than the room because the cabs a tiny space with a big honkin' street lamp in it. It's an Easy-Bake oven waiting to happen. The best a fan can do is approach room temperature. The lower the room temperature to begin with, the more you can cool the cab.
Some have experience with washing soil from roots and transplanting to DWC but, I've never tried it.
