Male Isolation Chamber

Just a question for us that want to make F2's and such but don't have a separate room to keep the dusted females for the 2 day period. I was wondering could you just wrap a sandwich bag or something transparent around the branch that you pollinated and just poke some holes in it for air, and shouldn't it be safe to be in the normal flowering room until you decide to take it out 2 days later and spray it with water?

THC•20...with hold in it not really....I do what your talking about tho but I Tie off the bag around the branch....Then remove out-side the room and spray off...But pollen gets everywhere and is very easily airborne...

Also with what EMan is saying...fresh Pollen is very Waxy and may Stick to stuff when fresh...Dry out the Pollen and then store it if your planning on using it later or again...
I run a Male-Box thats a 1x2 quick-cab...but its hard to polly without cross pollination in a any enviro..You need a 2nd room to really keep it clean without any issues or concerns..

---- my Rules of Thumb for Male-Boxes ----
have One Variety of Male around at a time...
Change Clothes after Collection/Pollination
Wash the Cab/Room after Each Collection/Pollination
Give the Plants plenty of time to Make Mature Beans
enjoy

that method is intense. Very scary. but seems to work like a charm. I like the thought process. I worry so much, I move them to a different dwelling. To each his own.

I've not really had any problems with contamination so far, and they're only two rooms apart. And my reasoning is - as long as there's only one male in the place at any one time, and I know that there's no hermies in the flower-chamber, then any random seeds I do get on other plants are a bonus, and at least I know who the daddy was!

Several times I've not put pollen on plants, thinking they'd all be the same phenotype (Skunk#1 for example), only for them to dramatically change in the last few weeks, leaving me kicking myself for not doing them all.

So it's always nice to pull open buds and find the odd seed in there, as it means I always have a few new ones to try, just in case they turn out to be really unusual and incredible (a 94-day Skunk#1 for example!).

Great Idea JLP and great bump xtrail. Its threads like this that need to be placed into a file so they are easy to find. I have a male in with my females thats at about day 10 bloom. Love stuff like this. Peace LL

did you guys know that some male plants have a high enough thc content in their flowers to get you high? (Rosenthal) good way to test your plants for breeding.

Hey guys, here's a little tutorial on how to grow your males right next to your females. It's a box that isolates the male and filters all the air that moves through the box so that no pollen escapes.I built my first one of these about 4 years ago and posted it at OG.This will be the third box I've constructed. They are fairly simple to construct and if you purchase all of the materials new you will spend probably $40-$60.

Here's an idea of what you'll need:

Just about any computer fan should work for this.Just set the fan on the filter and trace around it with a pen then cut out the squares with a good heavy pair of scissors.I usually use two layers of filter for the fan to draw through.Try to use the best quality filter you can.I really like these purple Filtrete, they have the highest filtration rating I can find and they are easy to tape to the fan.

Once you've cut the squares you stack them on top of each other and then the fan on top. Then run some duct tape around it making a seal and mating them all together.Make sure the fan is pulling air through the filter, not pushing.

Now you need to make a hole in the top of the box,I have a 4'' hole saw that worked perfect for this.

Next you need to seal the fan assembly to the box with some adhesive. You can use just about anything, silicone, latex, liquid nails.

Now you need to make a hole in the lid for an intake.Use a piece of left over filter to cover the hole and seal it with adhesive.

That's about all there is to it.Just plug in the fan and it gently draws air through the box keeping the plant alive and the pollen contained. Here's a pic with a female in the box to give an idea.I also screwed a board to the bottom for stability.

As you can see a clear box works best but you can use a solid box if you cut out the lid and put plexi-glass in it.

When my males show I take them out of the hydroton and re-plant them in soil then put them in the box,I can get about three in this one.I take the box away from the grow and gently open it for watering the males.
I've been using this method for several years now without any problems.

Sweet! It's like a weed condom.

This is great! I am attempting to stabilize many different phenotypes at once. They are all growing together and I wasn't sure of the best way to get the male I want of each to only polinate that pheno and not the others. I am going make abit bigger version of your design and use it as a breeding/splicing chamber. Kudos my friend.

it is a very good idea, didn't work out for me so great though
i built a 'cheapy', cut off plastic jug(clear plastic) bottom, paper filter on top
cut of flowering tops of a male plant into water bottle and tried to use a bright window spot to ripen the male flowers
just wouldn't ripen, put another set in and tried cfl lighting, same result
next male is staying in grow chamber and pot, and try to isolate as best i can

awesome concept. simple.effective.space saving.seed saving....not much more I can say really.....other than Thank you very much for posting.
