Hi orfeas,

Looking great as usual! :)

It's good to trim the lower weaker branches (chupones we call it here in spain) before the flowering. The plant then focus its energy in the healthiest and strongest branches with better light intensity.

The Malawi x PCK should be stopping the stretching around this time of the year, and will start the flowering soon, it's a good moment to spray with sulfur to avoid fungus in flowering.

Malawi x Panama may stretches a few days more to later start the flowering in early Sept.

Hope is not so hot there lately!

Having a problem with strech bro? Bigger plants, more buds, more problems :)

Oye hermano! Thanks for caring!

If only my problem were stretching...I would surely find a way around it...but alas it is called grey mould aka stem rot and I've already lost two huge branches, one from the M x Panama and the other from one of the M x PCK...what gets me is that this bloody fungus is noticed when the damage's done and nothing helps get rid of it...

Yet, having learned the hard way, I've always had an ace or two up my sleeve...some of which ain't Ace's

Will upload some pics first thing tomorrow.

Hi man good to know about the extra stretch, I am just starting a Panama x Malawi fem its about 2 weeks old at the moment indoors under lights. I have also a Panama and 2 GT in the same room.
I have been vedging under 14hrs light instead of the usual 18 to keep the growth slower.
The Panama x Malawi is the biggest already =, stronger and healthier than the others I will switch to 12/12 tomorrow to restrict growth further I think.
Can't wait to see yours in flower.

G' day lads!

These are the two M x PCK, one flowering faster than the other...had I had them out in the open, they would be well over ten feet by now...

Thank you Bleiweis & MadMac!

@Waldgeist
Hey Junge! Bist noch am Leben?

Now news from the front is just rendering me despondent, dejected and somewhat aggravated...
My scrog with M x PCK and M x Panama will definitely NOT make it due to the irreversible damage by stem rot. Already removed two huge dead branches and before long the rest will bite the dust.
What I find peculiar is that I've got a GrapeApe x Romulan sitting just next to them, same soil same watering, with no sign of fungus infection so far, in advanced flowering giving me high hopes to an end September harvest...unless bud mould raids in...

On a side note, scrog out in the open doesn't seem to be plausible, at least with sativas, for the colas' stems are not very thick and strong, which makes it impossible for them to keep upright when rain comes...things would have been perfectly alright, had they been in a greenhouse...

...on the other hand my Jamaldelica is steaming ahead slowing down its stretch, 9 ft now...
don't want it taller for she's becoming quite conspicuous over the tops of the thorn bush...no clear signs of flowering yet...

Well, there it is!

Once again that stem rot bites you in the ass. It is heart rending looking at a vigorous green plant and knowing it has no chance. At least make some Bhang or butter out of it..
I have no mold yet but it is just a matter of time. The cool marine autumn air has moved in. Good for mushrooms lethal to ganja. It will make for many difficult choices in the near future.
Good to hear about the Rom Ape. Good to have an early backup in case something goes wrong.

Despite the cool weather everything is ripening up in a hurry. Here is a Purple Lui.

Here's the Royal Kush. Really happy with how she's turning out.

And a Peyote Purple. She started late but is catching up quickly.

Because this is a thread in the Ace section I always try to put at least a couple pics of Dubi's gear up instead of hogging all the space with my local strains. I wish I'd grown a couple Bangi this year but I ran out of space quickly.
All I have to show is my little Congo clone. Been calling her Congo Bongo. In her early days when I first moved her outdoors the spider mites were biting at her. She's outgrown them and has finally started flowering. I apologize for the blurriness it's a windy day, hard to get a good picture.

I know a lot of people come here to look at the rare narrow leaf type strains Ace specializes in. I've made an exciting discovery, although it's taken me almost two years to figure it out. Last year I received a bag of seeds from Mendocino called "Kick Ass Hemp". I had so many strains to try I didn't grow any but I gave a few to a friend. He only grew a couple small plants. The smoke was incredible, extremely sweet fruity candy.
It was so nice I had to grow a few this year. I mentioned them to my breeder friend and he was dismissive about the "hemp" seeds. "Hemp, that says it all." he said. I'm realizing now, in Mendocino when someone calls something "hempy" they mean narrow leaf types commonly called "sativa". Big time growers don't like them because it's a pain in the ass to trim a big plant, they want easy structure that is commercially profitable. Narrow leaves are rare because of this.
And as the plants have flowered I've realized what I have. Old school Mendocino narrow leaf types from the past. Obviously it's a hybrid, but still it is kick ass!
Here's a few pics.
First the pink hair phenotype.
picture.php

Check out the leaves. Thin with a distinctive bright green color.
The second phenotype is an amazing lavender purple. I've been trying to post a decent picture for the last couple weeks, every time I try it comes out blurry.

The smell is already fruity candy. Wish I'd gotten some viable pollen from the male I wacked. Maybe next year.

Hi therevverend!
green and purple just nice to behold healthy, lush plants.

Then it sort of struck me that everyone(including me) uploads only beautiful pictures as if this were the only reality. So I thought what the heck and here I am presenting you the "dark" side of the show, the detrimental stem rot that is.
Like you said it is heart-rending , if not excruciating, to tend healthy, vigorous plants for over four months only to see them passing away...and the Malawi x Panama smells so luring...not as luring as the 5G's though...

Plentiful crops to you all folks!

...but then here's the bright side of things with my Thai-leaning Jamaldelica and the almost ready to chop 5G's. The latter makes me feel deeply grateful to a kind NWP-brother-soul that had the practical idea of presenting me with a few early finishing strains that in a sense will make up for the loss of my Malawis...

I like your idea of showing the dark side of growing. We should start a thread showing off our plant abuse. I've got a couple screw ups I can post and mold season has arrived. We can advertise for our Mold Brothers seed company.
Cannabis is such a forgiving, easy to grow plant. Growers with huge egos are funny, it's not us it's the plant that is amazing. The plant puts up with our neglect and still finds a way to flourish, most of the time.
I had a friend, whenever you had a decrepit scrag you'd been nursing along month after month, praying that it somehow comes out of it, he'd yank it out and smack you over the head with it. I try to grow with his attitude, only the best cull the rest.
Love seeing the Thai leaning Jamaldelica with the thin leaves. Thai strains always seem exotic and mysterious to me. The Thai stick craze ended before I took up smoking and strains are rare and hard to grow.
Good to see you're California Gold is nearly finished. Nice to see those yellow and red colors coming out. With all the storms that blow in off the Pacific Ocean they should be immune to any diseases that plague your garden.
Your next project should be crossing the early west coast types with your late flowering strains. There are not a lot of African strains out here. It's mostly Mexican and Columbian with some Thai thrown in. African strains aren't as sweet, it'd be nice to have an early African type high with some California fruitiness and disease resistance.

I took a couple pictures of the purple Kick Ass Hemp to give an idea of it's structure. I know it's not a pure bred narrow leaf it is hybridized but it is more like the classic fruity, more sativa less hashplant, strains grown in Mendocino 20 years ago.
picture.php

The second one has leaves that look a lot like Purple Lui, both have a very light green color.
picture.php

I know the branching is different to the hybrids I'm used to. The Upright Bushy and typical Mendocino hashplants have much longer branches. Here's a beautiful large bud fruity Mendo hashplant.
picture.php

Very different structure. Longer wider branching and a pronounced top cola. Very stout and stocky. The Kick Ass hemp has short stuby branches and stretches like crazy at the top.
