Malawi Style Cob Curing.

Merry Christmas everyone!

So i have made my first cob from some thai haze aka SSSTN. I dont know if it was moist enough. I have sweated it in around 40 C for about a day and few hours. I have unpacked it and looks ok i think. Sealed it again and left to ferment.

The cob smells like some oriental spices, reminds me of cinnamon and ginger. Different smell than the dried buds.

Beautiful work @jonesfam7715 , a real pro looking thai stick, do you get a nice hit from it whilst toking on it thru the center hole?
The new ones look great as well. Cob on
At first no, it didn't smoke well to much air coming thru, but after it got lit well it was perfect, I took the smallest one I made for test, i will give these out to freinds on 4/20 is the plan. this is the first batch I've ever done but I've been watching @Tangwena thread for years, very inspiring. I will do this with part of every harvest in my future. There is no way 1 person could smoke that whole stick.

Sticky, great smelling like it was before I cobbed it. I have kind of cheated with this one. A reverse cob maybe? I sealed it back up for another month.

Amazing colors brother absolutely love them they look nice and waxy like a good Pula cob.
The best cobs were called that if I remember correctly there was the dried bud cobs and the sticky dark Pula cobs my favorite.

Wonderful brother the cobs being posted the last few weeks have been mind blowing.
The moisture content readings are golden as well follows the cure nicely it will give new cobbers something to shoot for.
I have been getting tripped out on some year plus cobs lately there's no other word for it tripping on cannabis just as it should be ha ha.
Nice job brothers.

My Colombian is finally down and hanging and I’m trying to decide which variation of the cure to try on her to bring out her gold. I’m thinking almost dry, packed into vacuum bag like brick, no sweat, long and slow..

For comparison I also cut 2 of her branches early and dried for only 2 days, sugar leaves withered and crispy on just the edges, rolled using parchment paper and vacuum sealed naked like canary/jerky. Sweat at 42C for 24 hours, paper towel to dry moisture from cob and bag, resealed and fermented at 33C for 24 hours, let dry at 25C overnight. She smells fruitier. Her flowers have a creamy lemon lime sweetness but the cob is more fresh orange juice and lavender.. I’m terrible describing smells so asked my sister.. “the flowers smell like really good weed, the cob smells like a louder kinda more mature really good weed!” So that was insightful haha. Starting the cure/slow drying stage in the cupboard it’s around 20C. I have high hopes anyway and 2 rooted clones to try again.

After fermentation the bag was damp again Colombian above, Black Opium below
IMG_9432.jpeg

I have this other plant in perpetual harvest, Black Opium, she’s a powerful medicine that I use to completely replace all of my MS management pharmaceuticals (pain, sleep, muscle relaxers, mood stabilizers, appetite stimulants etc etc etc).. I hate the name personally yet it’s an accurate warning. Being heavy Indica I can’t function if I consume her during the day. She’s reserved for topicals, night time use and bed rest days only. She’s a dark hypnotic mistress that demands your full attention and I had zero intention of cobbing her as she’s already quite scary but after taking my evening dose and tending to my garden she was calling out from the drying cupboard to “let me shine too”. I told her I would once she was drier but she insisted she wants the black cure! I impulsively cobbed up 38g of fresh leafy flowers (hanging less than a day!) this time I kept it wrapped in parchment paper and I was ruthless with the compression. 43C for 12 hours, opened the seal and paper towel dried the juices every 4 hours, dried a few hours before resealing, fermented 24 hours at 33C and some much more juice was released, dried overnight until 25g in weight but still feels very moist. I sealed her again to cure at 20C but after only an hour there’s more liquid in the bag and I heard her say “enough!”. So I’m listening and letting her dry out. I don’t know if she thinks she will be more mellow toke or more dangerous oil with this treatment but I’m excited to find out.

Forgot to say the wet black opium has a mild soapy smell now. Found this on a home brew site that indicates I overshot the fermentation (no kidding hahaha!)🤷‍♀️

“Soapy flavors can caused by not washing your glass very well, but they can also be produced by the fermentation conditions. If you leave the beer in the primary fermentor for a relatively long period of time after primary fermentation is over ("long" depends on the style and other fermentation factors), soapy flavors can result from the breakdown of fatty acids in the trub. Soap is, by definition, the salt of a fatty acid; so you are literally tasting soap.”

here I go again - wanting to make cobs for curing - have many questions to ask - again !!! will be asking questions very soon. a early thanks !
Welcome!
I believe the previous advice was if your brand new go back to the beginning and read about the first 25 pages to get the gist.

Then jump ahead to around page #345 and read forward from there to see how changes were made to the process.
