Malawi Style Cob Curing.

After trying up the few that I have, I've already been looking for ways to "pre-roll" what's going in the cob, so I can pack more in. One person suggested using a large sheet of parchment like a giant rolling paper just to get a decent cylinder going...I might try that.

So i still dont have anything to cob up yet. My first autoflowers will be done in about week, but I'm not going to waste any of them. There won't be enough anyways.
My question is, Tangwena, have you ever found an amount that was too much to cob up? You have said more is better... but im am ogre, as my friends and fam tell me. And when i hear bigger/ more is better i tend to go over-board. Even now I'm just sitting here imagining quarter pound cobs... too much? Once my long season plants come off, this would be possible many times over...
Hi my friend you dont need to do cobs you can press slabs or split a plastic retic pipe length ways to allow its easy removal and just stuff the pipe full of buds then push the compressed tube out.
It should hold together if the buds are sticky enough.
Another member makes cobs this way, and just wraps the compressed tubes in maize leaf to make it look traditional but you could vac seal the tubes and sweat like that without the maize leaf wrapper.
I have seen some excellent slabs sweated and aged while vacuum sealed.
Cobs are just the traditional Malawi method, its the fermentation and curing that makes the changes to the buds and this can be done any number of ways.
In Zimbabwe I saw cob cured buds inside tubes of fibrous root that were sewn together with bark thread. They were as big as loaves of bread and would have held 8oz easily.
They are any size you can construct its just a vehicle to carry the buds while they ferment and cure.
Best of luck with it please post some pics if you go ahead with it.

Thanks Tangwena! I will stick to the traditional method until i feel i am comfortable with the process. Then ill start to play with formation. I just didnt know if mold was more likely with more weight... i know the vacuum is supposed to hold it at bay...
And i will take pics! but it will still be months away before my Mazar are ready to cob up. Until then i drool over all the tasty cob pics that show up here...

I used a coffee filter to 'preroll' my cob. I cleared all the stems, squished a handfull into the filter, and rolled it back and forth. Came out like a cigar. I then placed that into my tamale wrapper husk. Not giant, but it held together nicely.
Peace.

Nice. No worries about filter gunk sticking to gooey buds?
