Hi Tangwena, Thank you for your speedy reply. That all sounds straight forward; I shall start Saturday.

Both the GT and the SMh are awesome smokes already (i took a little sample of each a week ago and dried them in a dyhydrator). I'm smoking some of that tonight, augmented with scisor hash and i'm very nicely high. As a 45yr+ smoker i need something a little stronger than most and the descriptions of the cob cure have me very excited!.

I'll update with progress reports, alougth i no longer am able to upoad photo's?
Thats a shame I am sure they will look awesome after a month maybe you will have your 50 post up by then.
Best of luck though I hope you get something very special it sounds like its just what you need.
All the gear from Ace that I cob with very few exceptions is more than I need to get where I want to go. I'm in nirvana since I found them I dont need to look any further.
I had some 2 year old Panama x Honduras today and lost it completely for a while. Lucky the quality high came shining through to guide me to right path it was touch and go for a while though ha ha.

hey, you all; i didn’t see a recent thread or continued one on curing and just have a basic question;

i have pretty dry bud because it wasn’t watered for a week or so when i harvested.

i tabbed out it’s humidity levels and stuff but as i initially put it in a jar and have done sets of timers, let it sit out for 24 hours, then again; and then the same over a pc exhaust fan.

it looked like i dried it too much so i was looking into putting a little celery in the jar for a bit.

it was then at 40%, but over the course of a day or so it for to 50%. and over another 24 hours it is at 54%

so the levels look good; and i may have to lay it out a bit if it gets over 55% or definitely if at 60%

but if it does stay constantly around 55%
vvvvvv
******
the question here is whether i really need to burp if the levels are stable at 55%
and how long does that go on for ? can i just let it be for 30 days or so now ?
******
^^^^^^

(i wet trimmed and the fruit/terpene smells changed to that “hay” smell i read happens when you do that. so i’m also hoping to get the smell developed back like i read happens) it’s my first real cure. i think i did mostly everything ok and i hope to try cob style too eventually.

thanks

So, This morning i started my first attempt a Malawian style cob curing.

I've made 5 cobs in total.

3 cobs using Super Malawi Haze that has been hung for 3 days. They weighed 50g, 50g and 60g respectivley.

1 cob of Goldern tiger, wieghing in at 65g. Also air dried for 3 days.

And a little baby one of 15g, made from some Malawi x Pck, That was put into a jar a couple of days ago but when checked this am the twigs still had some moisture in them.

The 4 big cobs were made without wrapping. Just bunched it all up and made some monster blunts! I used a rolling mat, well actually a place serving mat (we used to use them as kids to roll big spliffs!). As per Tangwena's suggestion, these guys weren't wraped. The little guy was wrapped up as tight as tight could be, in baking paper.

The five of them were then vaccuum sealed in individual bags and placed in the dihydrator at 40c.

I shall have a look after 24 hrs, although i asume that the little guy will take longer to start to swat due to being a lot drier than the other 4. I should add that i varried the amount of compression on the 3 malawi cobs for comparision.

I've taken plenty of pictures but currently can't upload them. It says something about me exceeding my limit? Far out!

Sounds good my friend dont go longer than 24 hours though or they will end up too dark and not so terpy smelling.
After 24 hours dry them with a paper towel to remove any excess surface moisture then re vacuum seal them for 4 or 5 days at between 30 to 35c.
This is when the magic happens how they are treated from here on in directly effects the results.
Over the next 10 to 15 days open them and check the aroma and dry them them in your dehydrator at 35c approx until they are dry to the touch each time then reseal them again for another 4 or 5 days each time.
You should start getting a sweet hashi smell around 10 days after the initial sweating.
When you smell that sweet smell keep them at room temp from there on around 30c.
Dry them slightly at each inspection once you are happy with the smell dry them about 50% leaving only a slightly moist core.
Then seal them to age at least a month before you open them again and touch dry them if they feel moist.
Once at this stage you can keep them sealed up for years so far I have cobs 8 years old and still great but seal them back up once you have taken a sample.
If you want to keep the out of the bag for smoking or chewing just dry them more fully once dried they stay mold free without vacuum sealing them.

About the pictures you need to get your posts up to 50 then you can upload unfortunately but you should be alright if you follow the above instructions.
They are not set in stone you can vary any stage to suite your taste. Once you have done a few cures you will develop your own unique cobs to your taste thats the beauty of this cure.

Thanks Tangwena,

This morning i opened and dried them with paper towel, after just over 20hrs at 40c. All bags were good and wet except the little guy, he was just moist. The bags have been resealed and they've al been placed on top of my amplifier in a little alcove; It's not 30c but above room temp. I'll try and dig out a thermometer and check what tempreture it is.

Thanks for the conformation of the 50 posts thing.

Hiya Tang. IC needs to pay you for working this thread man. You started a movement brother. :D

Anyway here’s my 1st try with some Golden Tiger (top) and another nameless NLD (bottom). These are small cigar size, didn’t bother trimming much as you can tell. This after 48hr @30C-35C. Too dark?

I unwrapped and dried on a paper towel, rebound and now at 30C for ~1wk I guess before I check again.

Good on you for having a go man. The GT is a good plant to cob, next time try a 12 or 18hr sweat I get really colorful terpy results on the shorter sweats.
That has fermented a lot because of the long sweat, if it was me I would dry it and go straight to the aging process.
If you let it cure ie keeping it moist it will over ferment and you will loose too many terps.
It will still be strong just lack flavor. The darker cobs can be very trippy and super narcotic sometimes.
Theres nothing wrong with that horses for courses as they say.
Shorter sweats and slow cures make for more colorful terpy cobs that have a more speedy effect.
I wouldn't mind betting that GT will kick ass now as it is ha ha.
I had a dark brown cob like that made from Aces Panama which is a dreamy high normally but when fermented like that is super powerful. I chewed some of the chocolate colored Panama cob and got lost walking from my kitchen to my laundry ha ha.
I didn't even think I was in my own house ha ha.
Good luck on your journey brother.

Yep, was wondering if that was the case. I’ll dry them out and start the cure.

Much appreciated Tang. I’ll post a smoke update at 1 or 2mo cure mark. Take care brother.

Peace,

Hi Tangwena, This afternoon i took a little peak at one of the 50g Malawi cobs, 48hrs after it has sat at 30c (or slightly less). Already it was quite dark and underneath the slightly unpleasant smell, a sweatness is developing! I've resealed it and put it back with it's friends.

If i were to take them out and dry them tomorow, would that be to soon, given that the colour is already quite dark?

If its not smelling sweet its probably because they were too wet at the start best to dry them until they feel dry on the outside but still slightly moist inside but only slightly moist.
They should still be ok as you have noticed early enough.
Dry them all and reseal them as they are only at 30c they will not have fermented its just they are too wet.
I wouldn't worry too much its just water at the moment.
Here are some pics of what it should look like after 24hrs at 40c, drying after sweating and one month into curing and finally after 12 months aging.

I cant agree more with you

I dont live in the free trade world. I have an allowance of 3 times a year to buy a product abroad and on top of that, I also need to pay hefty taxes for importing with Amazon or Ebay, I give you an example from this link:
https://www.amazon.com/Vesta-Vacuum...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Your price is 17.99u$s
My price is:
$17.99 + $74.39 Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to

It is amazing how prices in the third world are much higher than at rich countries for almost every technology product

Have a nice week everybody

Because you're not shopping in your country. It's all about warehousing.

Some times, something for $10 in the US can cost me $20 in shipping. But if I change the country, it's $12 and no shipping.

Search for your product on amazon.com, then change the URL to amazon.ca, amazon.co.uk, amazon.de ... whatever. 9 time out of ten, it works.

I know, some times you can't find it. I had to get a knockout punch from Germany (amazon.de) because I couldn't get a specific size in Canada.

Hi Tangwena,

Many thanks for your input and advice.

They had already done 21hrs at 40c and were sweating well. I dried them on paper towels, resealed them and put them at 28-30c where they sat for 48hrs. Yesterday afternoon i took a peak at one of the 50g cobs and thought the smell a little unpleasant, but there was also a sweatness. I dreied it and put it back under vaccuum with the others. So this morning i took them all out (now 72hrs at 30c) and all have a sweat smell but the four largest (and also the wettest when they went in to the bags) have another smell as well. Anyway, i dried them all in the dihydrator at 35c until dry to the touch (they were all smelling better by now), revacced and put them back in the 30c area.

Hopefully all should be good, I'll check in 4 days.

Today i took the bags out again, dried them to touch dry in the dihydrator and resealed them. All are smealling quite sweet now, but not really nice hash yet. They're now back again at 30c and i'll check agian at the weekend.
Sorry that i still can't post pictures, but I'm struggling to get up to the 50 posts. Hint...Anybody reading this, please feel free to ask me questions and help me get up to the magic 50.

Whoa! Stand by your beds!(or Buds!), I've just seen I've just got all the privaliges! Photos should be up later this evening!

The first shot is the piles of fairly wet Bud. The smaller pile is Goldern Tiger and the larger one on the scales is the Super Malawi Haze. After i'd take these pictures i decieded to use another 100g or so of the Malawi Haze.
