Hi guys, this has probably been covered, but I hope you'll forgive me that I didn't dig through 295 pages to find it ;) My question is this: does the bud need to be fresh? I have plenty of harvest to play with, but it's already in the cure zone (65% RH in jar). Perhaps rewet before cobbing would work?

If not, I'll have to wait until next grow.

Hi my friend. Its hard to say but why not try a couple of ounces use fresh maize husk, as in green it should help to bring the humidity levels up to the right level.
If you keep the cobs warm 40 to 60c vacuum sealed for a few days to sweat you should get a nice golden cure after a month.
Thats what I would do anyway give it a shot it will not ruin the buds if nothing happens.

Guys i am about to harvest and im wondering how long on average does it take to get to 80% RH for the buds when drying? Is the best way to test for RH to dry the buds on the stalk upside down for s day or two then throw them into a jar with a humidity sensor?

5 days of "fermenting" in the vac bags. This is the Purple Haze x Honduras.

Can't find my damn food dehydrator so I may have to buy another one... packed it up when hunting season ended. If I were to dry it the other way, what's the best method fellas? Just leave it out somewhere? I don't want to risk mold so I was thinking of drying it out in front of some fans before resealing it and trying to forget about it while it cures.

I know this isn't an exact answer but I hung mine between 36-48 hours before they went into cobs. I know that isn't an exact 80%, but the buds were still quite wet and they seem to be doing what they should be in the cobs.

Kaskadian: I wouldn't dry them too fast nor too much, be gentle with the drying...

You have to tender it to dry just to the point where the outer skin feels dry to the touch and the inside is not damp but plyable. You can check each week and adjust drying more or completely once you reach a sweet spot.

If RH at your place is not high, I would just leave them air drying on a dark fresh place for some hours. Any used fan should be indirect and gentle...

Kas any warm dry spot will be ok they dry to the touch quite fast.
As you have more than one try drying one a lot more than the others, you have a real opportunity to get a stringy red cob cure by doing that.
It will be different from the others that you let stay moister and the taste and effect will be awesome too.

You dont need to be exact a couple of days hung up to dry for sativas and 3 or 4 days for fat Indica buds.
As long as their too moist to spark a joint on them your fine.

Thanks man! I've got just the spot.

Tang brudduh, sounds good to me. I've got a nice dry warm area that's about 25-27c very little humidity. How much longer should I let the one dry out? Assuming the others are dry to the touch should I leave the other one out for an extra day or two? I'll absolutely give it a try. I've got 8 fat cobs (9 if you count the one I folded in half because I made it to large ;) )

I've got a friend that smokes only flower (no oil), but the bozo only cares about potency which bums me out. I'm going to save him a 2.5-3g wad of this stuff to shut him up after it's been sitting 3-6 months. :sasmokin: Chew away mate...

You fellas have max'd my rep over the last few days. IC said no more today.

Cool guys. I have them hang drying. In 2 days ill check the outside and inside moisture levels. I think ill have enough for 5-6 nice cobs. Enough to experiment on all the effects spectrum. Muhahaha

Just hung 4 plants, one more will get the ax tomorrow.

But for some testers, and maybe the Kali China buds, I'm cobbing everything tomorrow, won't give any more drying time than 24 hours, no huge fat dense colas (but for the Kali).

Hi Kas yes double whatever time the others take to dry on that one. This is almost I say almost as much fun as doing it myself.
Those cobs have the perfect type of buds for this method.

I'd like to try a making a cob but could use help selecting the best strain or two out of the following:
Panama, Malawi, Zamaldelica, Purple Haze X Malawi, Acapulco Gold (Bodhi) and Colombian Black.

Thanks

Tang would be the fella to ask but I’d say any one of those would make absolutely killer cobs! Nice selection man.

As Kaz said they are all winners my friend I am getting stoned on some early tastes of Golden Tiger cob it hasn't been aged yet so I expect to get clobbered by the stone but I like that now and then.
Its a rainy windy day and some crawling around on the floor will do me good ha ha.

Its actually turned out super trippy no stone at all I dont know if I'm disappointed or not ha ha.
Here are some pics of tomorrows menu.

In Aussie we have a tree called the tea tree.
Zamal I have tried had that very strongly.
This Malawi x Ethiopian has cured like that but sweeter I like it a lot.
Very menthol right up your sinuses to your brain I am sure.

In my mind as in reference to the cobs.....wouldn't fresh harvested flowers (nice & wet still) ((alive if you will) be similar?? Just throwing that out there....dammmmnn I love science!!!!
