Malawi Style Cob Curing.

Excited to try this method next season.
Just watched a short vid on Malawi and it shows a farmer making some sick looking cobs. There's a couple of minutes of "Reefer Madness" but the rest is good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owiaxm8bEJA&t=9s
Lovely video takes me back to my youth it hasn't changed at all ha ha.
Thats a typical farmer making ends meet isn't it. Low quality pot sent out the door as soon as possible ha ha.
Reminds me of the Green House seeds video same low quality majut.

Nkata bay and the inland areas have some potent pot but most of the locals and tourists dont like or get the strong stuff.
Notice all the banana trees thats why the cobs from the area are wrapped in banana bark.

The central and southern areas get the maize cobs its not as tropical as the north and drier.

I can guarantee if you ask the right questions you would get some high quality cobs in that area. The sellers just try and move the cheaper crap to make more money.
Once they know you know the difference and will pay extra you can get the real potent cobs without too much trouble.
There are some specialist cures in that region the old growers know what to do its all the new boys that grow the majut.

I hadn't seen that video before thanks for posting the link.
Maybe I should go back and make a real video report for people who know good pot and curing. It would open a few eyes I can tell you.

As the cobs dry, the smell is getting better and better. The ammonia smell is all gone, and it is almost like a fruit punch. Awesome scent only after less then two days of drying. It seems to take a while to get these babies dry out.

The one with virginia leaf wrapped around it is interesting. The tobacco leaf is basicly incorporated with bud. Hard to dinstinguish if it is added there or grown with it.

I decided to dry all the cobs and start aging/curing them. I'll experiment more with significantly longer fermenting periods with future crops. Now i just wanna make sure i have some sweet dope to enjoy with friends that can tolerate it.

I almost can't wait to get to make a couple of these from Nirvana's Full Moon. It is a fantastic sativa dominant hybrid, with really enjoyable high. One of my favourites. It must be that much more awesome with this method.

Lemon Haze, Amnezia Haze, Power Flower, Full Moon(when the order hopefully arrives) are the sativa dominant hybrids i have at the moment in my seed bank. It's gonna be a wonderful winter if everything goes fine.

I've just inspected the cobs after the 30 hours sweat,as Tangwena said it works faster with drier buds, the cobs are almost golden, the lemon verbena adds a sweet lime undertone, having fun while curing weed is amazing. Thanks again Tang.

Thats great man the fact that you are getting the sweet fruity smell shows you dried them in time.
The smells on their own are addictive. I know they can be so sweet and hash like only fruitier or more flowery depending on the strain.
No stopping you now my friend you have been bitten by the bug.
I used to grow pot for the fun of the grow, now I just want to ferment buds and the grow is just part of the journey.
So happy for you that it is all working out for you every body who enjoys getting high and growing pot should have this knowledge its part and parcel of the whole experience.
Welcome to cob club my friend.

Awesome report my friend its sharing our techniques that make this a special place.
It would take a lifetime working alone and then still not learn half of what I have learnt from us all sharing here online.
You are part of the cob club now please post as many pics of every thing you do, so we can all share and grow better from the exchange of ideas and techniques.

The vibe looks really mellow over there. Maybe one day I'll get the chance to check it out.
You should make that video mate. It would be an internet sensation for sure:biggrin:

The strain is dedoverde haze,a very haze leaning pheno.Unfortunately in Italy it's hard to find great genetics and i'm a bit paranoid to buy seeds online, next run i want to try ace's gear, zamaldelica or panama,if i can find seeds at the growshop of course.

You'll love the Panama, and Panama cob is super strong. My favourite so far is the Bangi Haze cob. It's so clear, euphoric, trippy. Puts a smile on my face just thinking about it. Got a couple of other cobs to sample, but always seem to reach for the Bangi.

Cobs

It's been a while since I posted in here, miss this wonderful thread.

Tonight I'm making a coconut oil mix with 4 fermented cobs (probably 6-8oz total) and adding cinnamon and 3-4 ghost peppers, fresh picked, 1.5+m scoville.

Since it's fermented I'll probably just cook in 1/2 gallon jar in a water bath for 60-75 minutes to make sure all the goodies are extracted into my oil for straining.

I like cobs straight too, sometimes, this seems to maintain it's clarity, uppiness and kind effects but gives me a better medium.

The ghost peppers are a new addition, I think with the Cinnamon and oil they will extract things better, perhaps it's just a hunch or a desire :)

A while back I gave my brother in law some Panama cob extracted into coconut oil it was lovely golden butter kept in the fridge.
I gave him enough for 4 doses and told him to be careful to take only one quarter of the thin flake of frozen butter.
Long story short he forgot about it and it melted in his car into a soft butter blob.
So being the intelligent guy that he is took the whole blob of butter.
He was very upset with me the next time I saw him as he spent 2 days in bed pretending he had the flue as his wife hates it when he uses pot.
He just drifted in and out of dreamland for the whole weekend he wasn't happy. But when I told him i had said to take only a quarter at a time. He said it looked so small he didn't think it would be a problem ha ha.
I prefer the raw cob myself but the extracts can be super potent.

Just getting caught up over here. I love all the excitement and enthusiasm over cobbing. My very 1st cob is 7 weeks into the cure now and I can say it is the best cannabis I've consumed. Ya know I had to let others try it to confirm what I already knew. My test subjects are a 30+ year everyday smoker and another long time pro grower who lives on rosin. The 1st guy was so impressed, he said he's never had anything like it and couldn't remember being so high. He does everything high and his remarks were he could no way work or drive while smoking the cob. The 2nd guy said he felt like he did the biggest dab he could do. Thank you Tangwena, you've changed lives around here!

Hi Neiko and Scottay its another world on cobs isn't it ha ha. I have a couple of fresh cobs aging at the moment and they are outstanding in that I finally managed to retain the aromas, oils and terps of the delicate Malawi x Ethiopian buds.
Two previous attempts I over fermented the buds and while the effects were kick ass the aroma was not.
Finally I have managed to enhance the fantastic smells that the buds have really unusual smell very refined and top drawer cannabis.
In a week or two I will get to try the effects hoping for some ultra trippy sensations along with the outstanding aromas.
You guys are doing gods work over at 420 some lovely cobs especially yours Nieko great pot and even greater cobs brother.

Hi all. It's winter where I am and I will soon have some oldtimers haze which I want to partly cob. I thought I read about using a crock pot to do the original fermentation? Can't find it and would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction. Or any other advice about doing this process in winter? I have tried this before and got good results but only in warm temps.

Try using a seed heat mat with a clone dome over it. Put about 3 bath towels over it to get your temps up to the sweat temp. then take the towels off and it will hold within the ferment temp. range. Just put something in there to elevate them off the mat. There is a few pics a few pages back I believe.

I've noticed if the cobs are on the drier side of acceptable the smells really pop. My wetter ones are still great but the aromas are more subdued. Any tips on sweat and ferment temps based on how moist they are when cobbed?

We are all here to share our experiences my friend they are all valid as far as learning goes.
Yes the airy sativa type buds need to be drier for sure I have found 12hrs at 40c is more than enough to start fermentation.
That way as you say they retain the best aromas and effects.
Denser buds can be done moister especially stinky hybrids they really turn like hashish with 24hr sweat I have some very tasty cobs donated by a fellow Aussie/ New Zealander Globule made from hybrids just like hash and very potent and very pleasant.
Hard Rain any heat source crock pot, heat mat, dehydrator, yogurt maker even outside in your car with the windows closed in the sun.
Although regulated is of course better just get it to sweat in the vac bag and your on your way.
