Malawi Style Cob Curing.

I smoked it last night, going to eat it today. (Couldn't help smoking all of it, about 4 grams, leaving .5 for chewing)
Sadly the buds I used are lacking in potency, I knew that once I tested the jar cured buds, but the cob has been already made. Straight buds are good smoke taste wise but lacking potency for me at least and obviously what you put in is what comes out...

Smoke-wise is a different league, what a experience! While "dismantling" it for grinding the scent reminded me of top quality natural fermented tobbacco leaves (I was raised in the Canary Islands and fell in love with cigars since I was young).
I refer to the ones used for hand-rolling premium cigars (Cohiba, Montecristo, etc i.e. best of the best, creme de la creme).
The result made me think of a cannabis "cigar-yfication": original "slightly fermented citrus" aroma was kept, but was super-charged and became an "overtone"; body became thicker and deeper, like light cedary wood rounded with leathery and peppery spices. Delicious!
Even being slightly moist and plyable after being drying for 8 hours at least, it smoked absolutely slooow, uniformly and smoooth, with the whitest ash. Made me think on rolling them like cigars, i.e. 5-6grams rolled using also cob (second link) or cannabis for the outer skin, I would have one stapled to my mouth all day
Loving this curing method! For me, a truly Gourmet finish for the proper buds!
Notes:
I should note that my cobbing ended up being more "pressed slab" style than a malawi cob (rolled); due to the really powerful vacuum machine I used, vacuum acted like a press and the cob was pressed flat since the sweat stage, like a hash slab.
I suspect this could impart a different character/effects to the curing, as we are preventing air pockets inside the cob vs cob rolling. Thinking it's similar to how tobbacco is fermented, leaves are placed flat on top of each other making piles, looking to prevent air pockets, so could be the key for cigar-like curing.
After drying (eight hours), the chunk I cut looked like a hashified bud, but was still plyable, leather-like.

Chewed it for about 10 minutes, keeping it for sublingual absorption. Just poured a coffee on it (having it now) , had some scrambled eggs from my beloved hens first. 0.6g chunk.
Knowing original bud is lacking in potency for me, I wonder if sublingual/digested will make a difference...
Taste was like the smell, slightly bitter but absolutely bearable.

Chewed was different, I didn't feel any kind of high, just felt a noticeable above-average wellbeing and good mood... suddenly I felt the need of trimming, pruning and shaping the trees in my orchard, got soooo carried away and absolutely inmersed on the duty to the extent of totally missing the China F1 GP I was about to watch! around 4 hours non-stop...

Definitely! I also remember Tangwena stating the extracted oil is of superb quality (makes sense), will be great to make edibles, or even to dose it sublingualy.
In keeping with the old saying that an idle mind is the devil's workshop, I decided share my brazen bootleg puck press, which I described on page 271 of this thread. I must repeat here that I have NO intention of attempting to market this diabolical machine, and that I created this device as a one-off cob maker for myself alone, meaning it will remain in my lair for the rest of all time, for use when cob season rolls around.
Despite having a fairly good idea of how this compression works, I was still amazed at the result, which is a very solid puck that looks, and feels like a piece of sawed-off tree limb.
Since this machine will never be sold, I decided to name it in honor of the CobFather, whose innovative idea has brought smiles to so many faces across the globe.
With this rock solid puck vacuum sealed, I will age it for a month or so, and then report back with my findings on flavor and potency, as compared to my more loosely compacted cobs that turned out absolutely fantastic.

Swamp Thang: I think this kind of compression is what provides a "cigar-like" result, I mean, thick, full-bodied (but smooth) smoke, with bolder base flavor on the darker side, original scent as overtone, with spicy (peppery, mustard) notes.
In my case I didn't use a press, it was my vacuum pump, I got a semi-industrial one and forgot to set a milder vacuum level; as result the cob was heavily pressed flat by the vacuum.

A near industrial strength vacuum sealer probably does compress bud very well indeed, Repuk. My Food Saver domestic vacuum sealer pulls a good vacuum for a kitchen utensil.
When I cut the bags open after the cure, there is an audible hiss, as air rushes into the bag, so I can imagine a far more intensive compression being possible with a more powerful vacuum machine such as the one you are using.
I have just been marveling at the marble-like sheen that this puck of compressed weed has to it, and I can't wait to see how this variation on the theme cures over time, in comparison to my previous hand-rolled cobs, which all turned out superb in taste and energizing, mood lifting effect.
Having stumbled on cob making in this forum, I find myself pondering over how to obtain even more spectacular results, though a few failures are pretty much assured with my trail-and-error experimentation ha ha.

Not a true cobb, but much reduced oxygen. I leave it with ever so slightly more moisture than most people would. It seems to dry a bit over 6 months. Some strains will get a touch of golden color and some terpenes like pine and menthol will seem to increase.
That is less than 1.5 lbs compressed to a bit smaller than a gallon sized container. Essentially, it looks like about the size of a half elbow of loose bud.
I'll try some cobbing this fall. I am downsizing dramatically. I'd like to cultivate a taste for a future connoisseur market when cannabis gets delisted from "schedule 1" and the entire U.S. market opens up. I only grow plants with a cerebral/energetic/trippy high, and I'm getting then to ripen earlier and earlier for the Oregon climate. Cobbing them is a natural for this genre.

Varying the amount of compression will result in different cures. Some loose packed bud will compress by the vacuum seal alone to be like rock after they are finally dried out. I personally prefer Tangsticks which are 3/4" to 1" tube compressed cobs about 4 to 6" in length. Made by hand and wrapped in corn husk. Very nice form factor.
Hi my friend its exactly what I would be doing if I was in your position. The market is full of green buds.
The specialist connoisseur market is where its at in my opinion.
Get in early and establish your name develop some unique strains cured your own special way and you will not be able to meet the demand.

This is one of my favorite plants from my last grow part of the main cola was compressed without cobbing it ended up flat like a piece of card board and is easy to cut up into dose size stamps making it really easy to use chewed or broken up and smoked.
Just opened after 3 months vac sealed post sweat. Stinks of fermented fruit and with a skunky peppery taste.
Top motivated high with spaced out trippy feel an absolute gem.
The white looking piece in the center of one of the stamps is not mold but the central core stem of the cola they always seem to cure white the same with the smaller stems.
