Malawi Style Cob Curing.

H

HaHaHashish

and since this thread is turning geriatric, let me state that I'm over 60 too but hey that's just a number, I just went out today and dug up and fertilized a couple of outdoor plots in the bush. ..but I am feeling the burn.

I love this time of year, not too hot, there's hardly anything around that wants to bite me and the ground is soft from months of light rain..then I sing out loud that Barbara Streisand hit "Send in the Clones"

Isn't the soil rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here, at last, digging the ground
My brain in mid-air
Send in the clones
Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around
One who can't move
Where are the clones?
Send in the clones
Just when I'd stopped opening fert bags
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours
Making my entrance again with my usual flair
Sure of my lines
No insect is there
Don't you hate force?
My fault, I fear
I thought that you'd want what I want
Sorry, my dear
But where are the clones?
There ought to be clones
Quick, send in the clones
What a surprise!
Who could foresee such a yield of cobs.."

Snap I am 64 this year so dont go calling me young ha ha.
The only thing good about my age is getting tripped out every day and not having to go to work for the man.
I have been told I never grew up, but who says you have too?
I am doing the same things I wish I could have done when I was 16 and apart from physical wear and tear my mind is going 100 miles an hour most of the day.
Sometimes I sit or lay on my yoga mat and let it off the leash for a bit. You know just to wander round and sniff the posts like a dog.
Please post lots of pics I want you to get it right and experience something unique.
I have had some Panama cob today and while I was painting up on a scaffold in the full sun. I caught myself laughing out loud without a care in the world I was so high it was blissing me out exploding from my chest, its a very special kind of high chewing the good sativa cobs I just know your going to fall in love with everything all over again its magic what it can do.

I’m already falling in love.

I haven’t figured out how to post pictures on this forum. It’s asking for a url and my photos are in my phone gallery. Drat! And I’m short on time.

I made my first cob and posted pictures on the Tangwena thread at 420Mag. I have somewhere I need to be, but I’ll be back later.

It’s beautiful, I’m incredibly excited and oh, so blissfully happy to have met you Tangwena. I’ll be back in a few hours.

There are two ways to post pictures:

As post Attachments

1. Make sure you click on Go Advanced button when posting (bottom of page):

attachment.php

That will bring you to Advanced Mode posting, click on Manage Attachments button:

attachment.php

2.- Your browser may complain about a popup, make sure you allow popups from icmag.com.

Once the Manage Attachments window opens, browse to each picture you want to upload, then finally click on Upload:

attachment.php

3.- While in Advanced Post mode, click on Insert Images button, another window will pop open.

attachment.php

4.- Set the dropdowns to From: Attachments and As: Original only, then click on the image you want to display in the post and the forum code will be added automatically to the post:

attachment.php

You will have all the attachments you have uploaded to icmag on that same "Insert Image" window, so on future posts there's no need to re-upload.

And I was worried I was getting carried away ha ha.
Nice one brother.
Do you feel like I feel? Now I know I'm not going mad lovely post it brings on a fuzzy warm feeling to read such things.
I was driving down the freeway the other day on Panama and I was so high I was hearing the beach boys in my head I could have been in L.A
Perth where I live is supposed to be like L.A was 20 years ago according to a friend who grew up there.
But then again he might be crazy too.
Every time I read happy posts like that I get a big dose of good karma my friend bless you.
Every day is so full of unbounded joy I sometimes feel I just cant take anymore joy! But then tomorrow comes and I just have to have it again.
Live every day as if its a gift from heaven.

Has anyone compared the high and duration of chewing cob with eating cob that was heated and combined with a fat?

I'm wondering what they'll do infused into coconut or olive oil with some liquid sunflower lecithin and used as part of a healing regimen. The coconut oil would be the fast track to the liver for recreational enjoyment, so you can be sure I'll be doing just that to compare myself when my cobs are cured.

Has anyone on this thread had any of their cob material tested?

Alright, I'm gonna figure out picture loading and share a little. :eyelash:

I cannot for the life of me find any instructions on loading photos into the gallery guys. I'll be documenting on my thread at 420Magazine, and I'll share here when I get that worked out.

This is so easy to do Tangwena. The crowd at our thread keeps growing. Lol!

For some reason I'm getting a different compose box than I have before. Is this a common occurance on the forum? I got the pictures loaded in but I have no option in this smaller box or on the page to insert my photos like was there every other time. You have the pictures in your gallery before I posted on my own thread. Lol!

It was my way of demonstrating respect. When I figure out how to get them up you can see how well your lessons were applied.

I'm headed back to 420Mag. The crowd is patiently waiting. :eyelash:

Interesting. Here is a chapter from one of Ed Rosenthals books. They mention several different ways of curing and fermenting cannabis.

http://www.sky.org/data/grow/c21.html

This is only one of several different curing methods mentioned.

Temperature is in Fahrenheit.

Excerpt:
Fermentation

When vegetation dries, the individual cells which maintained life processes die. But marijuana can still be conditioned by means of fermentation. Fermentation is the process in which microbes and plant enzymes break down complex chemicals into simpler ones, mainly starch and sugars into alcohol and simple acids. In the process chlorophyll is destroyed, giving the material a more ripened appearance. If the fermentation is stopped early, the marijuana has a sweeter taste because of the sugars which the ferment produced.

Fermentation occurs when the moisture content of the marijuana is raised above 15 percent and the temperature is above 60 degrees. The more tightly packed the material, that faster the ferment proceeds. The rate of ferment is controlled primarily by varying the moisture content, but each batch proceeds at its own rate because of differences between plants in nitrogen content. (Nitrogen is necessary to maintain fermenting bacteria.) The process is delicate; should the ferment proceed too rapidly, the marijuana may be converted to compost. Watch the fermentation closely. After the desired colour or flavour (from a dried sample) is reached, dry the grass quickly to stop the process.

During fermentation, flavourings can be added to give the marijuana a spicy aroma. Such spices as cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mace, sage, or vanilla are placed between the fermenting material. Orange, lemon, or lime peels are also used. About half an ounce of spice or four ounces of peel are used for each cubic foot of material to be fermented. The spices are wrapped in cloth sachets. The citrus peels are strung. They can be placed between the layers of marijuana.

There are two types of fermentations: self-generating and forced. They are best used with leaves or immature plants.

AWesome nice post my friend it all rings true to me now.
Everything he says is spot on, its not new its been going on for centuries just not practiced in the west.
We have a lot of catching up to do thats for sure.
The best used on immature plants statement tells me he never practiced it just observed, of course its better on strong pot.

very simple. This particular example is with the Hydrofarm 20"x20" 45w heat mat and a simple potting tray inverted inside rubbermaid type container. This is more than enough of a heat source.

I can easily fit half gallon Mason Jars (if you like pretty fermented nugs) upright, more cobs in plastic than I could ever need etc....

Depending on how much I cover and how thick blanket is it will stay within 1 degree anywhere from 90-108F+ range, crack open or vent and you can easily maintain temp below 90 as well; It will stay this way indefinitely within 1 degree once to temp and stabilized. A remote Temp sensor inside and you don't even have to go and look at it until it's getting close to ready. Sweat stage, second stage can be done here. You can use to dry outside of wet cobs very fast (it'll be very dry air inside there) when up to temp etc.... Just make sure you're always vacuumed up and there's nothing literally that can go wrong :)

Ambient room temp is very normal - 67-69F range or thereabouts

Hey, thanks for that. I'm wondering why you've got the inner tray inverted? Just did an experiment with an old heat mat that's been used to ferment heavy mason jars of Kombucha for a couple of years and it got the container up to 36c, so I'm thinking that a newer heat mat would maybe give me a few extra degrees, but I am wondering if I need to be too fundermentalist about hitting exactly 40c, and if a few degrees either way would work fine.
I'm thinking that crisscross stacking of the cobs would fit many more in than a yogurt maker. Great idea.
Anyone using BPA free plastic for cobbing?

Got a good chuckle at that. This is so frustrating. I've loaded pictures in, and I've found the correct compose box, but it says I have no pictures loaded in. *sigh*

This is a visual art, and I'm known for my documentation. Imagine the control it takes to keep trying. Lol! We've just had a new platform installed at 420, and it's made a mess of getting things posted. Ahhh.... the joys of life. Thank God I have excellent cannabis to keep me centered and chill.

Not that a simple thing like tech glitches can stop me. The thread's already into its 6th page with over a hundred posts. We're having great fun.

I'll post the lab results and that excellent exempt from Ed's book. I'd have to agree with you Tangwena, he observed, whereas you've practiced. Experience makes all the difference.

Isn't it fun reinventing the wheel? Lol! I'm personally having the time of my life with this little process. Has anyone tried fermenting fans? There are trichomes covering every square inch of a cannabis plant, most just one cell high, but all containing the plant's essential oils. Hmmm...... I'll keep this in mind for a future try.

Tomorrow I'll dedicate myself to finding a way to getting the pictures posted. Does the site have a sticky on the process? I'm missing a critical step in the process. I don't have a PC, and do all of my work on an iPad or iPhone.

The 24-hr sweat will end at 7 PM, EST. I'll be taking pictures then.

Time to get back to bed. :eyelash:
