Malawi Style Cob Curing.

Does the cobbing process somehow "trap" and retain more of the terpenes and THC that escapes or changes during air drying then bottle curing? Maybe it's a case of less loss and also the changes that place during cobbing that makes the high from cobbed buds the one I prefer.

I wouldn't be surprised if Co2 combined with something else that happens during the cobbing process is where the positive changes happen.

or did I just write the same thoughts 11 pages back? lol....cobbed again! I wouldn't say the high from cob is headier than bud, but it's definitely trippier and deeper while being less frantic. I never get manically uppity on cobs, but sometimes the same plant's buds make my blood sugar drop and that doesn't happen on cobs. It's just a slight difference but certainly noticeable.

Happy Cobbing!
Ha Ha yes it gets to you after a while doesn't it?
I have been trying some of the Panama cobs I made from the last plant I grew. I love trying new cobs.
Its 2 months aged now. At one month it was super stony I had to lie on the floor and just let go real out of body experiences.

Now at 2 month ageds its super energetic clear as a bell and very social all while having a feeling of being on the edge of reality.

I love this cob I have 3, I will be drying one fully to keep this high as it is the other 2 will be left sealed to mature further.

By 3 months this is going to be so clear and trippy I can only imagine the feeling of bliss it will produce.
As it is I want to hug everyone when I go for a walk in the mornings. It feels like a universal love drug its blowing my mind.

what would be more interesting would be testing for THC and terpenes on cob and un-cobbed bud from the same tree.

I just tested them this morning ha ha.
I was pissing myself laughing a real fit of the giggles as the missus and I where flying along the path I felt like I could have run the whole walk I was bursting with joy.
I looked up in time to see an African gentleman walking the other way with the broadest smile and knowing eyes.
We locked eyes for a second and I knew he knew what I knew, a magic moment and it had me flashing back to Africa and the loveliest people on gods earth.
This Panama has gone above and beyond my expectations Dubi will be getting an order for fems later this year its too good not to grow again sheer bliss on ecstacy as good as my Golden Tiger but totally different effect.

Wow... that sounds incredible :)

I sown a Panama a week ago but didn't sprout :nono: what a dissapointment, I wanted her badly! a Kali China I got as freebie :)tiphat: ACE!) went in.

@Tangwena: Which specific post would you advise regarding the cobbing method?

Your sig says page 212 but that's a little vague for someone that lands on the thread (I want to link to it from my grow journal).

You can get the link to an specific post by right clicking on the post #, at the upper right corner; this one for example is #2324:

And the specific post URL is https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=8208657&postcount=2324

I'm about to cob for the first time... sadly the vacuum sealer wasn't in time and I'm afraid drying levels won't be wet enough. Cannot wait! Will organize better next time!

I couldn't use the real thing this time, could not locate corn husks, so used parchment paper.

Used 18,5g from a Mandala Beyond the Brain nugs that had been drying slowly for a week, they were at 75-80% moisture.

Original buds:

My vacuum machine is very powerful... the canary buds I put inside collapsed into a coin-thick bud blob:

I compacted everything to about 1/4 of the volume.

It's been "cooking" on a yoghurt maker for about 14 hours.

Will take better pictures of the cobbing next time, I promise (was in a hurry)

Something wicked this way comes.
Looks good so far should be no problem getting it to sweat.

It's been 16+ hours on the yoghurt maker, inspected it but no noticeable sweating or bulging on the vacuum bag.

The youghurt maker temp is on the wimpy side, 40 degrees maximum I'd say, 37-38C probably (from my hand test, would definitely suitable for a baby bath ), should I leave it for more time, say 24-36 hours? or unseal and do a sniff test looking for the sickly sweet smell?

May I have used too much paper that may have soaked all the moisture?

Dont worry its because its only a small bud.
You would get more if it was larger. The buds moisture content was correct not too dry so it will def sweat its just not going to be as noticeable.
Just leave it at least 24hrs and then dont open it, leave it in a warm place 25 to 30c for at least a week unopened. It will then ferment, it needs to be moist but as it was such a small sample it doesn't need to be dried in between sweating and fermenting keep it sealed.
After a week you can open it and it should smell sweet and different. As it was a small sample do not over dry it but reseal it under vacuum for another 3 weeks.
After that time it can be dried more but not fully. Then reseal it under vacuum to age for 1 to 3 months and it should be done.
I have some similar small samples doing that right now. I will post some pics later today to show you what to expect.
Patience and dont over think the process its just heat x time and then patience thats all you need.

Small test buds cure

Small test buds cure

Hi repuk here is the result from a small test buds cure.
I sweated them for 24hrs at 40c then left them unopened for 2 weeks, then dried them using paper towel only to get any surface moisture off.
Then resealed them for 3 weeks moist.
This is the result. You can see because they were only small the bag didn't appear to have sweated it was still tight but they did sweat.
You only see the moisture easily when you have a larger amount of bud.

Hello Everyone,

Hello Tangwena. Thank you for every thing that have done here. You are not only an inspiration through your cobbing but through the way you speak and write. I cannot believe the peace that has resounded though this thread and through the discussions that have been had here. This cob seems to bring the best out of people.

Anyways, I am on my first cob!!!!!

I started reading this thread a month ago and have only read half way through. You and everyone else inspired me to learn more and try my own cob.

I have some buds that have dried from last October and I sprayed a little water on them, wraped then in dried corn husk and now they are sweating at ~40C... I hope this is a good start. I will use fresh weed on the next harvest.

It is weed from an unknown sativa and from a very potent Dr Grinspoon which is also a powerful sativa. 4 cobs.

I want to post pictures but have not yet figured out how.

Hi there Doc thanks for the kind words there is no ego here my friend I left mine at the door.

Today I tried some 2 month aged Malawi x Ethiopia and I know I say it a lot but this is some potent weed.
It came on straight away like Zamaldelica does and just kept building and building.
I was so high nay tripped out that I dared not even think of anything lest I be transported away too whatever I had thought about.

For about an hour it was touch and go mostly go ha ha.
Dubi states that he crossed this Malawi to the Ethiopian to make a kinder Malawi.
There was nothing kind about what I just experienced this was what I know Malawi as man.
I cant describe it other than blotter if you've ever had it.
Phew!
In another month this is going to need a license to operate it ha ha.
Just so stoked to have a clone of this plant going ape shit outside in the sun in organic soil.

I want to cure this next batch slightly different to the last lot. This will be as good as what I used to call chapter 5 in Malawi.
I cant believe I found these seeds. I also have fruity Malawi x Ethiopia I cant wait to germ those now.

Now I got that of my chest I can answer your post.
I have not heard of anyone being able to resurrect dried buds but it shouldn't harm them.
You need fresh alive buds to cure this way sorry but theres no way to sugar coat it my friend.

Dr Grinspoon would be an amazing candidate for this cure. I have heard good things about it jar cured so fermented it will be something else I am sure.

Please post pics man. Just go to the menu bar on the left and click my IC. You should be able to start an album. Once you have an album upload the pics into it then use them when you post just click attach file and bobs your uncle.
I dont know if you need to have 50 posts or something I am not sure.

Dont get discouraged if your attempt doesn't work its worth doing its just there are no short cuts unfortunately.
This is the real deal it just needs to be done a certain way to get the right results.
Good luck. I am going to figure out just how much of this I need to take to go walkabout in another dimension I am super excited.

Thanks Tangwena! you read my mind with regards to doubts! everything crystal clear now.

I picked it from the yoghurt maker and stored it, unsealed behind a TV. Cannot wait!!!!

Wow the Malawi x Ethiopia sounds absolutely amazing.

I know that it is unlikely that I can resurrect dried and cured buds but I thought it was worth a try.

Definitely moist inside the bag. They don't seem to have darkened yet so I will give it more time. Maybe they won't darken at all because they are not fresh buds? Here they are after 16 hours sweating. I'll open them in 12 more hours and then I vacuum seal right?

If I buy a vacuum sealer, this is all I need if I do not want to use cob leaves right? fresh flowers and a vacuum sealer?

I am asking because this one plant Dr.Grinspoon X SpaceBomb yields flowers that would be perfect for my first attempt.

I can never move them because they are so flimsy. I always endup making hash with this plant (which can be devastating) But even the hash is so dry I can not press it to rosin because the yield is so lame.

So, in order to keep this plant in the garden, I have to find something else to do with her, I think fermenting in might be her destiny!

She is coming down in 2 days so I think I have to go buy a vacuum sealer, and I need some sort of a thing to keep it warm or one can ferment at room temps only takes longer?

Thanks a bunch, you would think Id know exactly what to do since Ive been lurking here so long but I am a bit slow haha.

Starting at 48 seconds you can see her, SpaceGrin that is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3i-_jsuecy8&t=2s

Now I am fully aware she would need longer but this room is on cycles and I want to keep it this way. So everything is coming down within the next few days.

Well my friend if I didn't know better I would say that looks spot on.
The colors will darken as it ages. The buds looked like they had just been picked so you never know in the big city as they say.
Fingers crossed for your result to be good. I like fat cobs and those looked awesome.
The sweat comes from the buds on fresh buds, they shrivel as the water sweats out of them. I am interested to see what rehydrated buds do.
i love this forum the members here are so amazing all the experiments we can do collectively that one person alone could never manage.
Its 2.45am here the Malawi x Ethiopian cob has flashed back and I am now awake again its a roller coaster.

I checked out the video I see what you mean by the airy buds also a little early.
But they are perfect for this cure dont dry them too much as they are airy they will dry quickly.
This cure will turn those clear resin heads golden and red if you get it right.
Get a yogurt maker they are cheap $60 and then you can get good sweats going. Along with a vacuum sealer and you will get good results every time but any constant heat source will do like a heat mat.
I would not trim her much at all just the fan leaves all the sugar leaves can stay whole. Once it is cobbed you will not be able to tell the difference and it adds to the taste and effects, good luck and please post pics you should get some trippy cobs once they are aged a few months.
