Magic Mushroom Grow Kit?

People say a shroom is a shroom, but I reckon there are differences between varieties. I grow mainly B+, and sometimes Chitwan, but I recently found some wild (Australian) cubensis that I took a spore print of that I am keen to try. They seemed stronger and trippier than B+.

What people lol.. Variety is a must. Shrooms are pretty different in lots of areas. Taste is a huge one for me..

okay! so, 3 weeks from putting the colonized grain jar into substrate - to - harvest of first flush of one tray. both trays started the same day. second tray is only now starting to pin - so a week until its first flush. have no idea why the different speed. ingredients and operation of both trays is identical, but evidently not.

however! procedure-wise: filling the colonized grain jar with water overnight, then draining before putting into the substrate was what i was missing before. winner, winner, chicken dinner ... with shrooms.

tried a 2g trip today from the first crop of Golden Teacher. fruit was very strange looking with the stem as thick as the cap - looked like fireplugs. used a coffee mill on all the fruit and the powder is about 1/3 of the one pint air-tight container i got specially for this years shroom effort. gentle trip - with spouse and child - didn't get the resolution i was seeking - maybe next time with another g or 2.

and the B+ is fruiting now - one tray about done on first flush, second tray coming on - if i don't fuck up the follow on flushes ... very hopeful. much better production than the GT.

I uses to grow a lot of them 10 years ago. Temperature is a big issue on how well they grow, so if not controlled environment, will grow at different speeds. A lot like to start with pftek and half pint jars. I was using wild bird seed, then mixed with peatmosss in kitty litter trays covered with foil till colonized, then into large clear plastic bins called shotgun fruiting chamber with perlite in bottom. House had lots of mold, so would spray down room everyday and wear disposable paint suit and spray with lite bleach before doing work. Took a long time to get things right, and threw out a lot. Freeze after drying for long term storage, in vacuum sealed bags. Just got the stuff to do it again, but lazy. Will try when i get my next GG4 grow underway.

I never bothered with extra flushes. Tried once and it contaminated.

both trays are producing lots of fruit every day - takes an hour to pluck and trim for drying.

sending recent visitor off with 20.25g (dry, coffee grinder milled) of Golden Teacher + 2 oz of fresh picked/dried bud from UK seeds - thanks to Seed Bay. good timing - the weather was not too hot, the tomatoes, peaches and corn are spectacular - all in all a perfectly timed visit. there will be much more for upcoming thanksgiving holiday visit.

i think i am finally getting a feel for growing shrooms.

the quantity of fruit is overwhelming my sterilite box + dessicant packs (2 dozen big ones) - just too damn humid right now. so, i put the shrooms on the screen rack in my bud drying box - the one with the peltier dehumidifier - the rack can normally accommodate 4 oz of fresh picked bud - dries to 50%RH in about 48 hours. shrooms started in the box at 4pm and hopefully will be dry and jarred tomorrow.

thank-you for your comment about a food dehydrator - never crossed my mind, also not part of my normal cooking repertoire. i keep trying to make do with stuff on hand cause i keep thinking one-and-done, when it clearly is cranking on for a while. started looking on amazon for a food dehydrator.

after 18 hours in my peltier dehumidifier box the shrooms were dry enough to jar this morning ... just in time, too, need the box for drying this bud harvest coming in NOW ... fortunately both shrooms trays are taking a short break.

total weight is 60 grams of Golden Teacher. after a week long rest, both B+ trays are fruiting again - big fruits to harvest today, and many pins and babies are showing - did not soak the trays, just the regular misting for an hour four times per day.

I’m thinking about growing some lions mane and blue oysters, they fruit at a temp that will work for me and I already have the lab and fruiting room…

the two B+ trays are kind of resting and regrouping for a week or so ... i'm wondering if i should mix some more manure substrate into the tray to refeed the mycelium - must be getting exhausted by now ... certainly enough spore drop to keep it rolling ... i can see it now: a perpetual harvest. lol.

used the coffee mill to grind up all the B+ harvested so far ... 68 grams (dry) ... into the freezer next to the 35g of Golden Teacher.

bury the exhausted mycelium in your garden or compost bed. you may get perpetual flushes (not really) but year after year returns when weather prompts them to fruit.

i've tried that with two earlier trays but i was stoned and forgot where i dumped them.

the only problem i see with continuing this grow is if it contams, which a healthy mycelium should prevent. it still looks fine over most of the substrate, but thinking ahead, if it keeps getting nutrient it should just keep rolling, no? in the interest of science (SCIENCE!) since i have a bag of manure+casing just sitting here, i will try this after the next flush/harvest - probably tomorrow. or next day.

couldn't find any useful info on Redit/shrooms so what the fuck ... poured 2 qts of water on tray and plowed the mycelium to absorb it all - no standing water - the tray had enough freeboard so i poured on another 5# bag of manure+casting. also poured 2qts of water on second tray that had what looked like green/blue mold on about 1/5 of the surface - still, i plowed the mycelium - didn't need additional substrate, so now it is a race to see if the mycelium can out compete the mold (if that is what it is - where are my AR goggles that can identify this shit?).

put both trays back into colonize mode - no fresh air exchange (blocked the vents) and continue with 1hr of humidity 4 times per day - and covered to block light.

now the waiting begins.
