Mad’s Hempy Bucket Vertical SCROG

Fed her yesterday a ppm of 500. This morning, 590.

Spraying with CalMag, I see the deficiency.

Ok dr MJ coco, I’ll soak 3 times in CalMag from now on to really get the cheap bricks buffered right. Lazy me.

If you SCROG with chicken wire, you can reuse the wire but need to chop up the plant more at harvest.

Is there some benefit to chopping the whole bush at the base and hanging that to dry?

Also, a friend told me recently that it’s a myth that leaving the trim leaves on during drying helps the taste, that nutrients built up in them will go back into the flower?

Looking on here for inspiration about lighting my circular bucket. LOVE this forum. Damn some growers have skills and talent!

Peace!

You do not want to use actual chicken wire. The holes are too small and you will have a mess trying to harvest. I would not recommend any screen with smaller than 2 inch by 4 inch mesh. 2x4 mesh field fence is what I use and even at that size it can be difficult removing large colas.

Other than ease of harvest there is no absolute reason to harvest and hang the plant whole, although hanging it whole may slow the drying process if you are fighting a low humidity situation in your drying area.

The debate regarding wet vs dry trimming still rages on. I have tried both and don't notice any difference in the finished product. But I am also an ex cigarette smoker of 40 years whose sense of smell and taste are probably not as keen as they once were. Check out this thread for more info from both sides:

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=255527

For lighting solutions I would look at this thread. I have used off the shelf LED bulbs in various homemade fixtures for both veg and flower with excellent results:

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=314806

Hope this helps.

Peace,

Thanks starke! Will check those links.

I have a diy household led bulb array in my main veg area. I was thinking the ceramic housing/mount plus the bulb-plastic cover is a lot of space to light circular in my chopped down 35gal bucket.

I inherited 3 new 27w cfl bulbs. Against buying those cause of the mercury, but 3 sounds about the wattage I was going for, maybe a bit more. 120w max maybe.

The light I have in there now is 300w oops.

Kinda hot. Going to change that tomorrow.

A lot of spotty leaves got better spraying CalMag, but not all the way. Think the other spots might be the overpowered/to close LED damage.

Fed her an EC of 1.4ish. Ph of 6.5. Trying this thing Dr MJ Coco talks about fluctuating the ph in the zone so different nutes can be more available.

Why is the new growth 3 leaf? I thought she was done re-vegging and growing normal.

Also, I’ve had red stems before. Not a Headband trait but because its been 80+ degrees in my bucket?

This is my second SCROG and my first was wires that only went in one direction, not an actual screen. Gotta cut my screen squares bigger. Thanks again!

Peace!

I have two other plants from the same strain I made, that look a lot more like Jesus OG in terms of the shape of the leaves.

(I have 2 starts of Jesus OG as well). Thank you Ganja Goddess! Not the Jesus OG I crossed to Blue Dream and then my regular mix. These are new beans I purchased for fish food. Cool they sprouted in my small medical garden!

Here they are side by side, my DeadheadSurferAngel aka Fire Angel on the left and Jesus OG on the right.

Blackberry Kush looking maybe?

And a pic of the leaf of the other bro or sis plant... Cool looking leaves on that one. When one of these hopefully shows female I’ll start a second off-set SCROG.

Peace!

I usually dry with everything on, then pull off the sugar leaves with my fingers when they crumble off. Like the finger hash experience.

Lollipoped her a bit which allowed me to add more, triple buffered coco.

Made a small clone with a lower branch for practice. Also an experiment to see if a clone will grow regular 5 leaves after being cloned in such a state.

Flogging her every other day.

700ish ppm

Giving her more fresh air with a fan. Hope she starts growing normal 5 leaves again.

Yikes, having that 300w Mars hydro light in such a small space without adequate air exchange did seem to blow out 14 of the LEDs. Oops.

Changed the lighting today to 2 9w bulbs at 5000k and a 28w “full spectrum” bulb. Will likely switch that for a warm white.

Perhaps I’ll still bloom with something else. Thinking 2 more sets of 3 as it grows into the SCROG might be good.

Added a CPU fan, pushing air in for the veg.

Should light proof it some to run the lights at night, they put off a fair amount of heat, would be good in the winter.

Peace!

When I rub her trunk and smell my fingers it’s a very smooth sweet smell, slight lemon, butterscotch, creamy vanilla.

Strain Heritage Update:

I made a mistake in my note taking.

Kept wondering why so many kept coming up looking like leaves of a similar Jillybean cross I made.

Duh!

I sorted it out.

This female plant I’m SCROGing is

drum roll...

((([Jesus OG X Blue Dream] X [GSC Thin Mints X (BlueHeadbandDutchTreat F5)]))) X (BlueHeadbandDutchTreat F5 X Jillybean)m F1

And the male I used I pollinated 3 different females of the same strain.

What’s the proper way to write out this cosmic beautiful mess?

Cosmic cause it’s got Space Queen from mom and dad by accident...

I LOVE Jillybean
Love Romulan
Love C99

Now where’s the cookie pheno with a side order of these classics... easier to find when I get it to F2?

Peace!

Been checking out SCROG and Vertical on here by more experienced growers.

I didn’t defoliate at all on my first SCROG.

I believe I’ll see where to do so as this develops. I’ll wait maybe a few days before deciding to do so, perhaps longer in the beginning.

Update:

I chopped the top for a clone about a week ago. Also pinched the remaining 8 tops.

Started LST today.

Bread twist ties strong enough? Need to leave a gap so the branches won’t overgrow and get strangled? Adjustable...

Also added a piece of fishing line. Was going to use wire. Seems wasteful but convenient. Been thinking I should have a flat SCROG layer above the ground level as well.

Been watering every other day with a pump and a hose.

Yesterday EC of 1.0
Think she’s underfed, that’s me trying to get back on track up from last time, will feed again today at 1.1, tomorrow 1.2.

Peace!

Just my two cents worth based on my experience so far. Opinions vary and YMMV.

I didn’t defoliate at all on my first SCROG.

I find I have airflow issues and way too much larf if I don't defoliate. I usually do so in two stages: At the end of veg, prior to flipping to flower and again at around day 21 of flower. I tend to be a little extreme in defol but I am happy with the results I achieve. Somewhere in my grow diary are some before and after pics of some defols I've done.

Twist ties will work. Stems do not need to be tied tight to the screen. Fishing line is not recommended. I use plastic tomato clips after several members here mentioned using them. Cheap, simple and reusable.

Looking good so far!

Thanks.

Yikes, some Thrips!

Spraying with doc bron, trying to find my neam.

Getting back to my original plan for a Vertical SCROG.

What to do with the fan leaves that end up in the center of the bucket where the light should be.

Don’t have a light for the flowering yet. Broke the cfls I got for free. Oops.

Need to add some more lights.

Peace!

Latest light idea:

Sun Strips / SolStrips stuck around a metal pipe, with an exhaust fan at the top of the pipe?

Wish they came in less than 16”?

What type of metal should I use, aluminum?

General grow update:

I gotta have my 4th hernia surgery in a month or so. Need to reorganize my grow so I can do it the first week when I’ll be in mass pain and unable to lift stuff.

Hoses, pumps.

But also, I’m thinking to transplant all my veg plants into my aquaculture system since it’s growing stuff great again.

My Hempy coco 12/12 is semi aquaculture, cause I’ve been adding the fish water to the mix.

Here is one of the other phenos in bloom already. And a pic of the aquaculture one that showed female.

Good luck with your surgery! That's gotta be tough! My roommate just went through that and he was basically stuck to the couch for 4 solid days :(

My last one 3rd was way worse- week of severe difficulty, but it was extensive and unusual. Had the first two = botched and repaired one taken out first. Patch and cork, golf ball sized scar tissue encapsulated it all.

They are hereditary and my grandmother had 4 surgeries.

Wow! Wasn’t sure on the light, but it’s coming together.

We will get a vertical grow show after all.

12/12 day 1.

Got a lot of adjustments to make. Tomarrow. So far just the 90w “Spider Farmer” LED.

Peace!
