I can see em now! Very Nice Purceville... The Snowdog at 200% looks crazy. Just dripping in trichs.

That is actually my DD3 specimen not the snow dog. Sorry for the confusion. But darn glad you got to see them. Yes she is very frosty and would you believe it 27-30 days tops... I can't wait to show you how she turns up come 60-70 days.... This girl is pure purple power right out of DJ Shorts F-13. I worked a f-13xf-13 cross and found this marvel I have indexed as dd3...

Sammet..... I love this lens. it just took me a bit of reading and screwing around to get it right.

1. use a flash
2. set it to manual focus and go all the way out to 1:1
3. move your position to focus
4. set your shutter between 1/60-1/125
5. set your aperture between f/12-22
6. depending on the flash... I underexpose the flash by as much as -1.3ev

I believe these were shot with a 17mm specialized macro lens reversed on bellows... at somewhere around x10 magnification ( except the last one obviously).... not sure.. I have so many lenses.. and so many pics :D

No just the D. I'm still a beginner really on my first DSLR, I've got a D40x, regular 18-55 kit lens, and a 55-200mm DX VR Zoom-Nikkor. And now the Micro (as Nikon calls it).

I'm just waiting for the lights to come on, then I can go set up the tripod - I like the remote control but it's a shame the sensor is at the front right - I'd like to be able to trigger the shutter release from behind so I can take some nature shots from a distance (of birds and the like - they won't come back into frame if I'm with the camera).

Here's how I got on with the settings you suggested purcellville, I didn't use the flash because they we're right under my hps.

I'm still having a hard time getting a good depth of field on the larger buds when I get really close though.

I think the thing is you won't/can't on a single exposure. The range of focus is so small, that every curve of the bud will throw you off.

I did some reading up on focus stacking, per earlier posts here. I am convinced this is about the only reasonable way to produce a full macro bud shot and have it all in focus.

On another note... try pushing the F/stop hard on that lens. I shot a bunch at 32 and a few as high as 57 today.... Set the flash to -1.3 and rocked out a some nice exposures. It wasn't what I was looking for but it was fun play if you will.

I shot nothing but B&W for decades. Still have a full Darkroom setup. In fact a dark room is great cover for a grow!!! dark room, exhaust, power, water.... You all get my drift.

Well I gotta hand it to the digital age. As much a geek as I am I never really ventured into the digital darkroom and DLSR. Finally picked up the D200 a year or so ago, and have recently started to take a real interest in the photo post processing on the computer. Sure saves a lot of time, waiting on developer and fixer....
