Mac vs. PC - the great debate

LOL - depends on my mood really. But this thread isn't

"who uses the best/cheapest components, Macs or pc's"?

It's Mac vs PC - the great debate. HTF you are separating out what makes a pc or makes a mac..... their respective operating system, then declaring a pc a better buy? It's the total experience that is the debate IMO, not how cheap yu can build a box w/o an OS installed.

Give some thought to your dumb ass posts & arguments.

You're contradicting yourself. Wait no... you're just babbling. How can you expect an actual debate if you're not even going to write in a legible manner?

as far as unix and unix like and strictly desktops

i do have to hand it to apple on the "user friendly" unix desktop computer

linux on the desktop has a very long way to go for the average user

LOL. Yeah as CC says above. Played at linux about 7 years ago and it sorta reminded me of eating a tofu burger. No beef.
You'd have to be a geek to use it. Have to be a strange geek to brag about it. Have to be a near sighted geek to think it more productive then either windows or osx. Have to be a child abuser to make your kids play in that sandbox too. Have to be on the low side of the iq scale not to know that linux plays nice as a server but is not as well suited as a work/play machine as the other os's we are discussing.

Umm Linux of 7 years ago is a different beast then todays linux. obviously you got a moot point since it was 7 years ago that you tried it other wise you wouldn't be spreading your FUD.

Please explain to us all how linux sucks on the dekstop, seems to work fine here.

Sandbox, you mean like the Jobs experience with no games and just fancy eye candy powered by overpriced PC hardware. Thanks but no thanks.

so anyway, we now know who and what we are dealing with here. Someone who jumped on the linux bandwagon early on and as it veered towards serverville (linux tried to make me like her but she didn't have any tits to speak of), didn't have the perspective to give up the ghost or to just put the linux box in the closet to serve movies to your tv. unimpressive at best.
sigh.

I don't wtf you said there. As for my linux usage I've used it as a web/shoutcast server since 2000. I've only fully switched to desktop linux about two years ago when I tried out OpenSuse 11 and Linux Mint 7. Those two were enough to get rid of XP/Vista. Now with Mint 8 there's no need for Vista/7 unless the kids reboot into 7 to play games.

As for me I could care less what OS I use. I use what is the best for my needs at the time. So far Linux has the ball.

Whats Linux missing that the average user needs? I've switched 4 people to OS 11 and Mint 7 and with just a few minutes to show them how to install software they no longer have any need for windows.

Now for those that just browse the Internet, check email or just visit social web crap Linux has everything plus some that they will ever need and for the time being its way safer.

You would never want to use Vista I have used all of Microsoft's OS and this version is the worst by far.

There is no way Vista is worse than ME. No way.

Yeah... IMO, ME was the most garbage OS I ever used. Win 2000 and 3.1.1 are still my favorite Win distros.

As for Linux, certain distros are super easy to set up and run... hell, you don't even have to install them to use them. :p

Ignore him. He's not here to debate, he's here to troll. He still won't back up points he was repeating at the start of this thread, and has been insulting people that disagree with him. My guess is that his son (that he's mentioned a couple of times) is telling him this nonsense, and he's just repeating it here without any idea what it means and without any evidence to back it up.

I don't think Linux really has much use on desktop PCs. It's free and gets the job done most of the time, but it's still plagued with obscure problems that prevent laymen users installing it and using it with confidence. It's good for servers though. I installed the latest release of Ubuntu on my desktop and it wouldn't recognise the DVD drive for some odd reason, considering the release before that recognised it just fine. I installed it on my netbook and it wasn't compatible with the GPU, meaning I had no display. Problems like this mean that many users would be screwed, as it means entering the terminal and fiddling around to fix the issue. Not something most people can or want to do.

That sucks, you can't return it huh?
Dell sent a new computer to us
And wouldnt let us return it
The monitor was mechanically/electronically defective...
So they sent a 3rd party repair man
You should have seen how bad he trashed the computer just through his work watching him
Needless to say after a LONG fight dell took the comp back
Gave a new one (also defective, got returned!)

Long story short we got a macbook. and another. and another.
...:)....
