Fair question, a friend of mine had some maui waui and was expecting great things. Mids at best.
But having said that it was not grown to full measure. He said is was damn near impossible to green up so in fairness OP, there could be some good phenos to be found if willing to work with them to dial them in then you may find something good/special.
If looking for the pleasant effect of what the Hawaiians can bring you could consider sour diesel also.
