Bad bug problems up there in the PNW? We really live relatively pest free here in the mid-Atlantic. Big grasshoppers have been my largest concern. Cabbage worms are the only other real pest I can think of around here.

3 varieties of Spider Mites (1 doesn't apply to this discussion) and over 360 species of 'powdery mildew' which is about 10% of the world's total.

The PM is as bad as it is because of the nursery industry. Plants have been grown commercially here since the late 1870's. One of the basic ways to get 'new & exciting' varieties is to import them from all over the world - not a criticism but just stating a fact.

So besides the native PM strains, a bunch more arrived for sh*ts and grins.

Prevention is the key - responding to a problem is daunting

That's a lot of PM.

Meh not so bad.... the local med "organization" sells little personal size bottles of Eagle 20...... so, nothing to worry about right?

They also a good place to get $20 bottles of avid, shuttle, forbid, floramite, carbaryl, procure, in little bottles so even the dumbest of fucks can afford to poison their patients.

Solutions for modern problems.... snerk

You just need to give them a copy of your DL and your card to join....... oy vey

Not all strains are able to land and grow on every plant. For example the strain called 'Black Scab' is a huge problem with apple and pear growers. OTOH, you could have a tomato plant or whatever planted within a couple of feet of an infected tree and you would not have any issues.

You might from another strain bouncing around the countryside that will hit your tomato plant but conversely that strain will have no effect on the apple tree.

Same thing in a vegetable garden - melons, cukes and squash plants are PM magnets but the strain on the cukes will not be the same one on a squash plant right next to it.

Jennifer's marketing arm I assume?

I'm still holding out for her famous 38-day 'equatorial Sativa' that's claimed to be an integral part of her breeding program - hopefully they destroyed the videos

Neo, if you do need to resort to an online herbal order, with the possible exception of Horizon Herbs, Mountain Rose is unbelievable - I speak from personal experience. All I can say is Wow!

They are the epitome of an ideal company. Good luck.

Jerry.

I'm just gonna stop leaving the organics section. Some subforums here are filled with the absolute lowest common denominator.

Oregon Herb Company Smells Of Success

A broadcast about Mountain Rose Herbs that ran on NPR about 2 years ago and this part of their story alone is reason to consider buying from them, IMHO

Mountain Rose Herbs is serious about doing business differently. That difference shows up not only in their products, which are all certified organic by federal and state standards, but also in the way they treat their staff.

Starting pay here is 30 percent above Oregon's minimum wage, around $11 an hour. That might not seem like much, but for Southern Oregon it's pretty good. In addition, co-owners Donnille and Julie Bailey limit their incomes.

"We've capped our pay at 3.5 times entry-level pay, which is a fair and honest living for us, which is all we really want" Donnille says.

The company is also zero-waste.

They recycle nearly everything — even paper towels. Used paper towels go to a local industrial recycling facility. They also contribute $75,000.00 annually to local nonprofits.

Like I said - they are ideal and I will continue to do business with them as the need arises. Others could learn a lot from them. Zero waste? It's unheard of.

And they have excellent little catalogues...*lol* one of these days I'm going to order some of thier "drinking teas". They look and sound so good!

The other company you mentioned, Liberty Naturals, is physically located at The Oregon Lavender Farm (certified OTCO - Oregon Tilth Certified Organic)

This farm grows speciality varieties of Sage (Clary), Rosemary (about 15 varieties) and of course Lavender - 25 acres of Lavender and Lavandin Grosso and another 30 medicinal plants.

If you need bulk oils, dried plant leaves, roots and flowers then this is a good place to look if nothing else to see what 'real world prices' are. Or should be.
