The problem in Oregon is two-fold:

Clinics that you find in Washington and especially California are not authorized under current OMMP rules and unlikely to change without a ballot initiative passing - highly unlikely.

The other reason is that current rules regarding medicine, plants which includes rooted cuttings but not bare cuttings - those are considered plant material, etc. the rules allow for donations and then things get kinda grey & murky on what is considered recoverable out-of-pocket expenses incurred by the donor, i.e. there is no provision for retails sales.

No retail sales = no profits = no motivation to setting up anything that would make some kind of sense.

It always comes down to money in this deal even on the MMJ side of the equation.

The mainstream and entrepreneur types seem to think there is a fortune to be made here, and there may very well be in some areas. Eventually if fair legalization combined with acceptable agriculture is allowed, the Ma and Pops will continue to offer hand crafted high quality medicine..
At several points through history there was $$ in it when it was highly illegal...I was dropping lbs. @ $4800 to $5600....not against lower prices, but jeeezus christ support your local gardeners and give the farmer what he needs!!!

I hate to say it,but I don't know a single grower of cannabis who is doing extremely well like yester-year. Seems there is a serious lack of actual 'cash' anywhere around.

Lawmakers aren't commonly aware of anything that photosynthesizes...they prefer long days filled with florescent lighting strobing away while they draft up the next bill full of paradoxes involving botany and law.

Some of the price situation must be impacted by the number of growers. I'm sure it's more so in your part of the northwest but even in Podunk, Oregon the number of grow stores is insane. And all of them have customers in and out their doors any time I've driven by. There's no lack of customers that's for sure.

Even a couple of mainstream nurseries here sell grow lights, bulbs and most of the Fox Farms' soils & fertilizers. Nothing unusual on that.

Then you have Down-To-Earth packing Karanja Meal - what's up with that? I've seen Neem meal on the label of Dr. Earth I think it was. Another mentions Aloe vera extract - huh?

Many of the local grow stores are carrying bales of Sunshine mixes, straight SPM, Pumice, Oyster shell powder, etc. Everyone carries SmartPots and at least 2 knock-off brands. Square something is one brand. Gallon jugs of BioAg Fulvic acid and 2 or 3 of their Humic acid mixes.

Weird times indeed......

EDIT: It's also my understanding that Down-To-Earth will be carrying the Basalt rock dust from Cascade Minerals under their label of course. 6#, 15# and 25# pack sizes.

OK So Ive just brewed my first ACT with the new pump and what a difference its made, the old pump was 10 lpm but was nackered so I think it was running at about half that. my new one is 40 lpm and yeah the tea is much more richer and just looked 10X better obviously I dunno if its any good or not but should have some substance without actually knowing by looking through a scope, I mixed half and half of worm casting from outside and them ones I got of ebay. (cootz you remember?)... I added some baby oat flour and moistened it with a mollasses/water mix and put it in a tub and fluffed it up everyday for a week, turning it and airing it the smell changed to a much more earthy aroma so I think thats a good sign and will do this again in the future. just watered with it after brewing 18 hours, I used half the tea and will water with the other half at 30 hours was hoping the 18 hour time frame would add more fungi..

Also the plants are looking really good, starting to get that crowning of the bud tips this is the first day ive noticed it coming on at day12

Last time i was out in norcal decent outdoor was going for a buck and a half. Not per point, for a single. That's what happens when every yahoo thinks there is a buck to make. I feel bad for the farmers that were getting double that a few years ago alot of them bought houses and had kids they now cannot afford.

Those prices impact the whole community in an area like that.

Thank you Michigan legislature for almost guaranteeing black market prices.

Well....hopefully our cranky old thread here will enlighten people to the roles they get stuck in as consumers and that there is actually a way out that is simple, cost effective, safer, environmentall y friendlier, and produces higher quality medicine.

Gasman-
I would have loved to have stumbled across this thread back when I started LOL. I think you've hit what you were aiming at bro.

I knew they were watching the boards, but that is a little wacky. Where do you think that one's heading?

Check this guy out....rolls in here READS the thread,GETS it,asks questions, and blammo.....it's really as easy as that.

Now it's just a matter of the right cultivar and gardening.

Thanks for the kind word Gascanastan. I just took me a while to come to realization that doesn't it make more sense to emulate nature indoors instead of trying to force an unnatural method on your plants, you don't grow watercress in soil without a stream so why try the reverse with cannabis.

I am currently growing with homemade banks of cfl's for veg and 1200 watts of hps over 6 plants that will be trained lst (my first attempt) jumping in with both feet so to speak.

I have built a homemade microbe tea brewer along the lines of Microbemans, Thankyou for the inspiration. I used a 5gallon crystal springs waterbottle for the vessel along with a 70lpm pump for the airlift. It moves around 5-6 gallons per minute and creates an nice vortex to keep everything agitated. I am using MM's reciepes, again why reinvent. I have done one ACT and several botanical teas.

My question is which varieties should I be growing for my wife's severe chronic back, hip and knee pain. I have tried fruity chronic juice, mk ultra and lemon haze. She says they mostly work with the mk being the best, but I don't know if it was just a better cultivar this time or what. I currently am growing 2 each of God's gift, super lemon haze and dutch treat. They were available locally as clones. I just discovered that I have access to 15-20 different varieties within reasonable driving distance.

Once again you guys and gals rock

Hey Thanks. I'll take a look and see if any are available locally. I don't have the space yet or the inclination to grow out seeds and do the culling and cloning thing. I know that I will get there one day with a little help from my newly found friends.

You know where we are... once you find a strain just do a search for seeds or let us know and we can look too thats if you dont have access to clones

BM69 it would seem like you probably want to be able to retain that specific pheno when you do find more beneficial strains/plant individuals

defo recommend you structure your grow so you can make mothers of your best selections

I am looking into building a separate vegging room for mother plants and clones, but you know how it is. Even though is spent weeks researching several years ago I should have spent more. I created problems during my initial setup that will take the determining factors to solve, time and money. At least now I truly know where and who to ask for help.

W89 & xmobotx Several years ago when I decided to grow again after a 40 year hiatus, I did weeks of research online, read several books (you know the ones jorge and crew) and thought I had it figured out. I built out a nice little room in the shop and started. Only now after finally finding the truth have I realized the mistakes I made. I am planning on converting part of my space to a mother/clone area, but like most, there are those two nasty factors involved---time and money. I will just carry on now as I have with my new living soil mixes and teas and ask for help as needed.

Ultra Premium Organic Container Mix

It's "Award Winning" complete with spikes, layers, pH balanced and it's the highest quality!

The margins must be ridiculous for hydro shops to carry them. I'd like to get my hands on a pack to run a side by side with the KIS Soil. I have no doubt it would blow it out of the water. What's the advantage to a "top" and "bottom" layer? I've always been a fan of mixing the soil completely. Is that just a stoner thing?

I'm wondering if the Calphos is necessary though after MM's posts....

KIS Ingredients:

Alaska Peat Moss, KIS Fungal Compost, KIS Microbe Catalyst, Pumice/Perlite blend, Gaia Green Canadian Glacial Rock Dust, Basalt, Calphos Soft Rock Phosphate, Pacific Pearl Oyster Shell Powder, Sulfate of Potash (Sul Po Mag, K Mag), Alfalfa Meal, Fish Bone Meal, Crustacean Meal, Kelp Meal, Ahimsa Organics Neem Cake/Karanja Cake, Tera Vita SP-85 Humic Acid, Fish Meal, Feather Meal, Steamed Bone Meal, Natural Calcite, Mycorrhizae*, and Benefical Microbes.

That made me chuckle.

What's it like sourcing amendments in New Zealand? I lived in Australia for a while back in 2005 in Sydney and have no idea where I would have begun to get the items we have such easy access to here in the pacific nw.

Anyone have a source on horse chestnut powder? Liberty naturals requires too much for a minimum order.

For smaller orders on botanical powders, extracts, oils, etc. Mountain Rose Herbs in Eugene, Oregon is often the better option. Fair prices and solid people to work with.

Horse Chestnut - $8.00 for 1 lb.

Here's a story that NPR did about this company which might give you more confidence in their business model and products.
