Isn't stonemeal pretty much the only rock dust you have available? I've read a few articles in newspapers from Scotland, Ireland and England on this subject. Seems as though there's more of a 'national interest' than in the states.

The local store sold over 200 tons last year of the Canadian glacial rock dust - just that rock dust. But you would have a hard time finding it in Los Angeles perhaps. Certainly wouldn't find it in New York City

CC

I looked around the local garden centers couldnt find anything I got this from a local DIY shop.. http://www.diy.com/nav/garden/garde...ompost/Verve-Volcanic-Rock-Dust-10Kg-11907558

Basalt based crystalline mineral compounds which include feldspar, pyroxene, hornblende, chlorite and magnetite.

It's approved by the "Organic farmers & Growers" "soil Association" and SEER "sustainable Ecological earth regeneration"

some info from WIKI about the different rock dusts:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyroxene

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feldspar

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornblende

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorite

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetite

If I could have sourced some local rock dusts I would have done that but dont know of any quarries close by and for the price and convenience I got that

As it should be. If you have sand and horse shit, use it.
lol, sand i have aplenty! and i can certainly provide an endless fountain of horseshit,i should do well!
sand, rootballs,a pile of lumber,a stack of crappy home depot "organic" stuff (yah gotta start somewhere) and some sweat later...

still need to add a bed for a apricot tree,a bed for sunflowers, and the composting shed....should be a good spot to teach myself the basics of organic gardening at any rate...

Looks nice UFS only thing I would have put some sort of plastic sheet between the soil and wood

I'm new to the completely organic soil and thinking about trying coots recipe w/ 1/3 peat, 1/3 pumice and 1/3 local worm castings from a bait farm as a base.

worm castings from grain analysis report
Total Nitrogen 2 % 14 pounds per ton Nitrogen from ammonia 0.02
Plant available nitrogen 0.33 percent 7 pounds per ton
Phosphorus /p205 0.04 percent 1 pound per ton
Potassium /k20/ 0.03 per cent 1 pond per ton
Calcium 0.61 percent 12 ponds per ton
Magnesium 0.05 percent 1 pound per ton
Sodium 0.01 percent 0 per ton

Sulfer 0.07 percent 2 pounds a ton
Zinc 0.03 percent per ton
Iron 1.63 pounds per ton

I have only started reading about base-cation recently and im no expert but the castings look pretty close to ideal in terms of the Albrecht formula, maybe a little more K and Mg supplied by some K-Mag

To this how much glacial rock dust, crustacean and neem meal would you add?

when I have my first batch mixed up ill have it tested to see if it is lacking anything.

Any direction would be much appreciated.

the right hand bed will be for potatoes, the local method is to lay down a bed of compost then layer straw over the top to 6 inches, then as the plants grow you keep adding in straw.at harvest time you just pop the sides off and the potatoes are right there.then you add compost to the top of the straw layer and let nature take its course until next season, after a few years of doing that i will have a sort of permaculture potato bed going and i can take the box away.

the main bed is lined and has a 2 inch layer of pea gravel around the edges to aid in drainage..

This is the recycled organic living soil thread...'flushing' and the entire myth based cannabis-rag gardening world has become a serious laughing joke to those who practice the techniques of actual horticulture when growing cannabis in living soil.

Props to Mr S for trying to guide common misconceptions here in this thread to a healthy place other than shit slinging...(which some here are good at..so don't fuck around)

"As Chimera is fond of saying, more agriculture, less agroculture. I think we can all agree on that, yes?"

.....I would agree.

Now kids...have a sense of humor and we'll all play nice... no name calling,it hurts peoples feelings...and in this day and age feelings are pretty damned sensitive....in fact laws are probably being drawn up at this very moment concerning someones feelings.

Anyway... the results of the coffee bags. The Tibetan purple barley a couple days later....

sounds good ufs i like that idea. and gas that barley looks to have the funny tap root my wheatgrass had like a double tap that braches off pretty much straight away... I gave mine a watering wth a mungbean sprout tea last night and what I done was at the end of brewing put the seeds in a strainer and mashed them up with my fingers while it was still n the water went real cloudy as the insides of the seeds are like a white sticky stuff.. do you ever do this? was the first time I tried it... though the seed must release more of its goodies that way

I use quinoua and crush it up in a mortar and pestal seed in all.

Always turns a milky white color. And smells like semen no joke.

You should be good with Cootz 1/2 cup of each per cubic ft.

I would be tempted to chuck a little fish bone meal maybe just to get the P up a hair. I would also be tempted to add some kind of SO4...but maybe someone else can weigh in on these kind of additions.
