Living organic soil from start through recycling

I will be picking up some 3+ years aged horse manure today that is full of worms. I plan to use it in a batch style specifically for my soil building project, but I am curious what those here with more experience than my self would do with it

That's what I do - pick-up manure that is advertised as 'full of worms' and as I need it to add to the 5 worm bins I'm running, I harvest the worms and cocoons and add them to bins.

Works for me - others will have their input as well.

I am personally mixing compost into my soil,making ACT,and topdressing with it...ALL on my indoor MMJ garden.

The pile I have going now is more the perpetual style...but as it builds I will take some of that material and do a more thermal approach pile utilizing a lactobacillus culture to speed a bit so I can use some of that material sooner than later....since I don't have any compost ready now.

It has been brought to my attention that some people are feeling left out of the conversation here.....and that some even feel that people are being ridiculed.

Well for those that "don't get it'...this thread is a place where reality based gardening is in existence...not myth based gardening. If you are still gardening with the idea that you need to adjust Ph and use any bagged soil or bottled nutrient/fertilizer..this is not the place for you.

There are plenty of other threads where myth-based gardening is in full tilt boogie...but NOT HERE.

We are over it...that's it...that's all....that's the 'inside joke' if that's what you want to call it.....this is reality.

We use compost,build our own soil,ridicule hydro-store sales men and those who have brought this plant into a snake oil realm of being.

The most sacred plant on Earth handled like a gimmick to make a buck at the expense of the average human being who would otherwise grow it like grannies tomatoes and have no problems at all.

This thread is a debunker....proof that you don't need ANY of that hydro-store BS or idiot's from stoner mags like High Times like Jorge,Ed,Kyle,etc.to grow cannabis.

I know that doesn't sit well with the people that believe that shit...but that's why we are here...yet personally I'm are here to save the evolution of the plant....this plant that is being genetically bastardized and having 30 years of myth-based gardening applied to it's evolution....which puts it's future at jeopardy IMO...much like Monsanto controling your food.

That's why we are here...if you don't like this thread...don't hang out...don't post...and for gawd's sake stop crying about it to daddy behind mommie's back.....

But I gotta say it is a bit intimidating to ask a question or join the discussion. And that comes from someone who truly wanted to give it a try but just needed to get my head wrapped around some of the concepts.

I can't put my finger on why it is...but I felt it.

There are no 'dumb questions' but repeating the same question over and over and over and then couple a question with 'information' not relevant to growing plants is a non-starter.

Not to mention annoying.

You ask very legitimate questions and bring your 'real world' experience to the discussion. That's not dumb - that's what it's about.

You're a good teacher as well as student - the best combination to actually learn more about agriculture and horticulture.

It is an intimidating place....ICmag......but really if anyone has any questions...just ask...no-one is excluded...except for the guys who wanna argue about how chemi hydro/myth based gardening is the real and only way to grow cannabis....This is the ORGANIC SOIL FORUM.

I agree and will add I was in every noob's shoes a short time ago. (in dog years) I got pissed at the attitudes and those posters that belittled my stupid questions. But I was inspired to do my own research, if only to prove them wrong. And really there are no shortcuts to research. And with enough knowledge to be dangerous i asked better questions and started to understand the answers. From there it snowballs. My background is completely mechanical so none of this has been second nature to me at all, but I find living soil fascinating none the less. And like I always say, start going thru those stickies. Most all your questions have been asked before plus there is much more thought provoking content. Carry on this is all.....scrappy

Actually Home Depot is probably the best place to shop. I think they have the best prices on sphagnum peatmoss.

I think your right on that one...just regular ol peat bails super cheap....I'd be sure to balance it before use though. I've actually bought the stuff before from Home Depot....around 14 bucks per standard 3.8 cf. bail if I remember....

Yep! I was at the local Home Depot store last evening while Mrs. CC purchased MORE f*cking Hosta plants - shakes head.

While she was screwing with my garden plans, I strolled through their outdoor garden area - Sphagnum peat moss, lava rock ($4.50 per c.f.), garden Gypsum, Limestone and my all time favorite - Dolomite Lime!!! Yay!

You can get a base 'somewhat' at HD or Lowe's - shop carefully and avoid the 'customer service' people with impunity or you'll be walking out with MiracleGrow this and Scott's that.

Fun times indeed!

5 or 6 years ago that was me walking out with several bags of MG when I landscaped my backyard....I am so ashamed and repent my sins...... (hope the professor won't kick me out of class)

Several months ago I sent my buddy to get me some perlite. He came back with MG perlite ( can't believe they add nutes to perlite) he had to take that shit back... Not in my garden.........
