I meant to ask you about the Oly Mountain fish compost - did you use that in a soil mix or in another application (composting)?

CC

I have used it in re-amneds a few times...but more recently made a top dress for a no-till with it containing kelp meal,EWC,some old freeze dried fish hydrolysate, and a touch of oyster shell. Yield was phenomenal.

Yeah - that's what I'm thinking will be the end result as well. I'm glad that Concentrates will be their Oregon distributor. With their volume of sales it should be a popular item for home organic gardeners.

Word just in from a local dispenz saying that the Nigerian x BMR (Nigerian Sunshine) is their #1 herb in demand for relieving P.T.S.D. as reported by military veterans.

Here's the lady's test results.. I'm positive the overall %'s are higher than tests shown...I'd like to see 3 tests on the same type.

Yo Coot, what do you know about this particular Nigerian / cross & why it's specifically helping with PTSD? Was goin' over this with Gascan and he touched on port city influences and an Asia connection- care to elaborate? Curious is all...

Ummmm......the original Nigerian seeds came to me from a friend who surfed for one of the surfboard companies then located in Laguna Beach. He now lives in Hawaii and has retired from the circuit. He went to South Africa one year to surf around that area and like you always do when you're 'on safari' you meet surfers that are coming and going from somewhere even better - kinda like looking for the perfect cannabis seed might be a good analogy.

So he ends up in Nigeria where there has been cannabis growing for over 2,000 years and today is one of the top producing regions. So that's how I ended up with that seed group. The first year I grew it outdoors I was living in Laguna Canyon where you have perfect weather for outdoor grows. It was in the ground for almost 11 months - pulled it around the Winter Solstice.

One of the most 'mind centered' highs in my experience. No sleepiness at all. Perfect for right-brain activities. I cannot speak to the PTSD but I can speak to it's benefit for bi-polar patients. The high is very centered in the middle of your forehead between the eyes and thoughts come through that portal it seems and for creating artwork, writing or taking a hike - it's almost enlightening.

In that context I liked it better than the original Thai seeds we had to work with from the Thai stick loads. But like all strains, the value, the benefit, effect and quality are more often than not, subjective meaning that some people found it 'too racy' whatever that meant.

I didn't grow it much outdoors because of the size - trying to hide a plant 15' tall in Laguna Canyon wasn't all that easy. Not from the cops - from your neighbors! LOL

Thanks for this - I was reading up on the Yoruba kingdom and its history of cannabis cultivation and spiritual use, fascinating shit to say the least...

...mind centered highs and benefits to bipolar patients - that's me all the way! Haha

See how this one fits into your studies. If you look at pre-Columbian art you will find a number of plants represented in their buildings, statues, paintings. All of them are there but not Cannabis.

Then consider that Nigeria was the shipping point for the slave trade in the post-Columbian period to the Caribbean Islands and eventually all over the Western Hemisphere including the USA as we all know.

Any of you strain guys wanna tackle this one?

What could possibly cause a plant to show an increase in the leaf's width using a different soil mix? Almost double actually.

I'd have to ponder that one - are we talking entire leaf or each leaflet, as in it now looks more indica vs Sativa?

Yes - only the fan leaves though.

And they're thicker but that could be easily explained from switching from Pro-TeKt to the AgSil powder and since I don't know jack-diddly about converting percentages I went with the suggested rate of .7 grams per gallon. I don't recall what the means as far as ppm but I can get those numbers if that would help.

Obviously an increase in soluble Silica will give you thicker leaves on almost every plant. That's a reason it's used commercially, i.e. to limit damages from insect and mildews.

I've thought that with TO she will lean towards either sativa or indica depending on environmental conditions..(including soil). Not much, but enough to make that flowering period vary...depending on those conditions.

...just a guess

See if this makes sense and it's not my intention to slam Pro-TeKt. It's a great product and every gardener should use soluble Silica and this is the best priced therefore best value over the competition.

But let's take a mineral compound you're familiar with - K-MAG. With enough agitation and time it is completely soluble giving you elemental Magnesium, Sulfur and Potassium. Would you buy a jug if it were available in liquid form? Of course not - you're not going to pay for water.

Let's look at the water used in liquid mineral compounds - where is it being packed? This isn't food or medicine so what purity has been established in their manufacturing processes?

More likely than not once a company establishes a market for their XXX/10-5000 Juice, they take the manufacturing to China where it will be shipped to a packer in the USA and it will be in barrels. So let's say for sake of discussion that the factory in China is perfect and top-notch unlike their baby formula, pet food, etc. Let's say that they got mixing this product down perfectly.

So it arrives at We Bee Packers somewhere near one of the West Coast ports - you're not going to pay to have it shipped to Chicago to dilute it and stick it in a plastic bottle unless you're running on some major stacks of 'funny money'

How much confidence do you have with the fertilizer industry (not grow stores - the industry in general) in getting the amount right in each and every pack?

Using a soluble mineral compound gives you complete control on the quality insuring that it will perform as intended. It's also cheaper if that's helpful......

This same analogy works for Epsom Salts. No one would buy Liquid Epsom Salts without some serious marketing and advertising to promote it. I would hope anyway.

Interesting - and are we talking strictly structural appearance or a change to the effect of the high - since the flowering period would vary i would assume the high would change as well.....

I don't want to buy anyones bottled water LOL - are you saying this is your variable that affected size of leaf? i.e. concentration and/or quality of potassium silicate?

Coot, what is the cost on the Agsil product?

J

It's cheap - do a search for Agsil-16, there are other grades (numbers, or whatever) but it's the 16 you're after.

I knew Silica Blast is derived from Agsil-16, Protekt is also? At end of the day though I guess K2SiO3 is just that....

And it is so cheap! Check out these prices from AN. Wow, .1% dilution rate @ 1 liter for 30-40$!!!! Dollar store prices! /rolls eyes.

http://www.advancednutrients.com/hydroponics/illinois/illinois_labels/RhinoSkin_OREGON.pdf

Web Description:
Rhino Skin is the industry’s premier potassium silicate formula that protects your plants from stress, heat, and disease while providing building blocks that increase your flower size and potency. Your plants need silica to build strong structure for floral growth and potency, but silica is often in short supply in hydroponics gardening. That’s why you use Rhino Skin. Unlike all other hydroponics silicate products, Rhino Skin is easy to mix and easy for your plants to absorb. That’s because Rhino Skin contains the correct form of silica for use in all types of hydroponics gardening situations. Rhino Skin also works well in soil. You get better growth, stronger plants, more trichomes, sturdier trichomes, and increased resistance to crop predators when you use Rhino Skin during your entire crop cycle.

Remember folks Rhino Skin the the PREMIER silicate okay? It doesn't get any better than THEIR silicate. Serious chemistry structure differentiation going on here between silicate brands.

It can't get cheaper can it? I mean this 21% dilution rate from this website in a 565 lb drum has to be millions?

http://www.store.tlhort.com/p-21751-agsil-25.aspx

By the way Americans are stupid and Europeans are smart. Wanna know how I know that? Check out the difference between the information given to European growers on the same brand of silicate here (Scroll down to see the difference seriously):

http://www.advancednutrients.eu/advancepedia/cloning-rooting-germination/rhinoskin.html

Vs. the description they provide for Americans here:

LoL, the American description is short enough to post:

Description:

The male rhinoceros leads his mate and their two calves through dust, drought and relentless heat. Attacked by microscopic parasites, by sucking worms, by vicious biting insects the size of small birds, by mites, mildews, molds ripped by thorny foliage under the merciless eye of the blazing sun. Yet somehow the rhino and his family easily survive their ordeal to arrive at a safe oasis. All because of their tough rhino skin? Nature's very own living armor.

Ingredients:

Potassium Silicate
Silicon (Si)

Available in 1L and 4L sizes.

Seriously though whats with the difference pretty stark contrast???....I mean pages of scientific studies and references for Euros and a corny story for Americans. Must be different marketing teams?

Here is a link to the company that I purchased the AgSil 16 from. Doesn't matter where you buy it as this is a 'brand name' and at the link is the MSDS - Potassium Silicate

This company offers this in different quantities up to 50 lb. bags for $150.00 and singles for $12.00 per lb.

Just another source but they do have information that might be helpful

CC

EDIT: That link doesn't take you to the AgSil 16 direct, hit their Search and type in AgSil 16 - not sure why I can't link to this sub-directory.

I'm gonna echo BJW on this one slightly - in Martin Booth's book Cannabis (one of the few sociological/anthropological/historical books on the subject I'd recommend to everyone), he says that sativa cultivars grown in arid, sandy conditions will exhibit indica traits, and indicas grown in volcanic soil in tropical conditions will exhibit sativa traits.

IF this be true, then your additional Silica maybe made the soil seem more sandy to your roots?

Then there's always the mislabeled cutting explanation... :)
