if yer deathstar is the stinkiest cannabis you've ever encountered and can't be contained even thru multiple bags... it could be real.
if it smells like some horseradish in the bottom of a brand new tennis ball canister... it could be real.
the ohio death star came to eugene oregon in 2005. my friend here is super good friends with the roomate that lived in cbus w tds when it was made. total accident by the way.
a paragon of F2 hybrid vigor. top notch medicinal herb. ive never had a strain so requested and loved by patients.
tds split one went to cali n one went to co. im pretty sure somewhere the ds mutated and i believe that is what is going on here in eugene. way too garlicky type pheno. not great.
i still have a mother going in fine health.
its not my favorite med but it's definitely one of the absolute most lucrative strains ive ever grown. it is on lockdown and has been for years. plus i grew up in ohio and ohio canna stat is wicked. dumpster dont fuck around either!!!

Im loving the tennis ball canister smell description! Thats about as dead on as you can get. Ive always said it smells like a basketball/rubber factory with a petroleum manufacturer next door.

I laugh now a days when i hear people saying that their escd is seeping thru brick walls, even with negative pressure. They have no idea what it is like trying to keep even a small 6 lighter of the dstar, or even lemon G in check (the lemon may actually be even worse). If you have either with you in a vehicle, i dont care how good you seal it up, it will still smell. If you touch a bud one time, its going to stick to you all day. If you smoke a bowl or joint, the smoke will stick to you all day. Short of sealing it in wax or something, theres not much you can do about it.

I was running 3 filters for 12 600's. A Can 150 filter (scrubbing) with a 14" max fan, an 8" fresh inline carbon filter with 8" vortex (exhaust) , and a can 100 with a 6" vortex (exhaust). Yes i have 2 exhausts. The smell still gets out a bit, especially when moving plants around. When harvest comes forget about it. We have to trim from the hours of 11pm-6am, theres just no way around that.
I know for a fact that trimming a fresh batch of lemon G, a good portion will indefinitely go right through a brand new carbon scrubber, and it eats ozone generators for breakfast. I cant trim the stuff for more than 2 hours at a time. Its like cutting onions, your eyes water, you sneeze, messes up your sense of smell big time. One of my best scissor guys not only gets those symptoms, buts also breaks out in mild hives. It messes with his allergies. No other strain does this to him. Its odd. If we have strains like this now, I cant wait to see what we have come up with in 30 years from now, so long as preservation practices are followed along the way.

Man. I wish I could have some of this "Tennis balls & radish salad" smelling stuff! Basketball factory weed? Sounds so weird!

Sad to report after 5 years I lost my death star clone :\ Had to move and she just didn't survive the move. At least I crossed her out so I have the genetics somewhere just gotta dig around for a death star leaning pheno. I can't say she was my favorite smoke, much too strong for me, but boy she was a true pleasure to grow. So frosty, and such a unique smell, not to mention those colors you can get out of her when the temps drop. My garden will miss her, but I'm glad I can come back to this thread and see one of the prettiest strains out there.

welcome to icmag bossplayer.

Does your deathstar cut have the "zipper" style alternating branch structure as mentioned earlier in this thread.. That is a solid way to be certain you've got the real deal cut.

See Ichabod's post here

Really want to run deathstar in the future. Only ran her as a tester in the corner and lost it through some chaos before I got a chance to really grow it out proper.

The deathstar is an f2? Ive never heard that one...
Whatever garlicky plant you are seeing out there is probably a one-off i would assume... The odds of a strain mutating are slim to none.

@youngtrader- Staggerlees deathstar looks real deal to me. The bud formation, and pistil color look a bit different than mine, but it could just be a different phenotypical expression. The telltale sign is the rust splotches on the purple/yellow/greenish leaves, as well as the shape of the leaves. And that hue of purple is spot on. If its not the deathstar, then its pretty darn close in lineage.

Glad to have her back around! She's a tiny little thing, but she's got a good life ahead of her. ;)

No idea what is in store for her. Has anyone ever tree'd a deathstar out? Wonder how it'd perform in my tree room. I remember her being a little floppy when I had her in the past. vStagger's got some 1lb trees... I'm looking for 2-2.5+ lb plants out of my tree room with a similar veg time. Is she the right girl for me? Too bushy and sphere like?

Killing it over there with the DEs vStagger.

When grow out like a tree it does well. Not short and full but not tall and thin. A good middle ground. Filled in just right. Not sure about out side growing though. It does this inside with a 1k .

You will need support because it will fall over from the weight of the buds.

I have not treed it but have seen it grown up till flower as a tree before being tied to screens like I run. The floppy buds are what I get in flower tied to screens.

Ive never taken a death star over about 4.5 feet tall. I will say that it sure does have a natural bushy structure to it. I could possibly see it being a good middle ground for a tree grow like crane mentioned if left untopped. I picture it being similar to the ones you have in ppk at the moment. The branches do tend to want to fall over on bigger plants though. Damn ECSD genes!! haha. I would suggest using a silica source, and keep the fans on them 24/7, and blowing really good during veg especially.
Fans= Gym for plants.

I have the deathstar and the ecsd. I occasionally smack them around every few days in veg as well. Sounds bad, but it helps. I dont do it to an extent that it messes up the structure really.

I have noticed over time, that if you walk through your canopy every day or so, and brush up against the same plants every time, those ones are always stronger. You get a similar effect when you are constantly moving or rotating plants every day, or every other day. This is saying something.
