do you really need that many sprayers in those things with the radius of spray that they let out? of course it has to be sprayed but dont you take into account the water spalshing and bouncing off the sides?

The number of jets and directions they spray is critical in coverages and water pressure. Fewer jets will increase pressure and decrease coverage.

The water sprayed directly on the stems or roots under higher pressure can bruise and damage them. So the jets around the parameter can be directed to spray at the sides and splash back, more oxygenated water particles splash back with less force.

More jets will increase flow and decrease pressure. So the number of jets is directly related to pump pressure and coverage area.

I've tried to be somewhat of a minimalist with pump size and sprayers to keep down noise, heat , and electricity. A small pump with fewer sprayers has the water pressure to keep all my cuttings happy. The critical area on the cutting is the cut end, and any water droplet hitting anywhere on the stem runs down to the cut tip to hang there. I think all you really need is that water droplet hanging at the cut tip to satisfy the plant.

I've been using 6 oz foam cups instead of neoprene collars. To drill a hole for the stem, I twist a phillips head screwdriver against the bottom of the cup with my finger backing up the other side. Then with a felt tip pen write whatever info needed on the cup. After roots show I cut apart the cup to remove the cutting. I use plastic short little 2 oz custard cups as placeholders to plug empty holes in the top lid so water doesn't spray out.

I've made one similar to this before, and was trying to describe how i did it to a buddy, but couldn't get it across to him.

Thanks so much for taking the time, effort, and sharing your knowledge of the matter. After going through this thread and what I already know about cuttings/cloning, I feel 100% confident that this is the route I'm going to go when the time is right - which isn't going to be too long!

Clones average 9days to root 1st run...
heres my DIY aerocloner using a 8 gallon ez stor bucket aka ucc bucket using 5/8" foam insulation in place of basket and neoprene works like a charm pump is a pondmaster 500 !!! this one holds 143 cuts lids cut out from a sheet of 1/8" abs plastic =)

Thanks Rumple & i was wicked excited w/ the whole project. Pump cost about $25, PVC was about $4, bucket w/ lid $3+$1, so that put me at about $33 + a few bucks for the neoprene, sprayers & net pots! I added some RapidStart Rooting Enhancer to my reservoir today (2 days into using it) so I can't wait til the magic happens!

Thank you for putting this DIY together I used it to build one and it looks like it will work great. There are a couple issues I had with your tutorial though. One is that you recommend a forsner bit to drill the lids but the bit just wanted to dig into the lid and tear it up, I found a hole saw to be better. The other is that you recommend a 1 7/8" hole for the net pots and I found that 2" holes work better for me. Great tutorial man, I can't wait to throw some cuttings in mine.

Rumple you rule, thanks for showing us how to do this. When I have got some time I am definitely going to put one of these together. I do have good luck with rapid rooters and sometimes rockwool, but I wanna succeed 99% of the time. Particularly in the winter I struggle sometimes with cold so hopefully this will help.
