Just to chime in on this... I made one of these aero-cloners that I ended up giving to a friend of mine before I ever used it. He tried taking cuts a couple different times with a 24/7 pump and got stem rot. Then I believe he also tried using a timer and got the rot again, so he scrapped the aero-cloner and made a simple bubble cloner. He hasn't had a problem since. I made a smaller version for myself for about $20, and it was 15 minutes worth of work from start to finish to build..... It's the easiest way to root clones that I've ever tried, and I've literally tried everything. Change the water every two days and 7 days later you've got roots every time.

hey rump good to see ya, thanks for the bucket, I've never looked back best thing i ever did for my grow, have not killed a clone ever and on straight tap water its crazy easy, i used to worry everyday check my clones roots no roots? then the bucket, i double the cuts in each basket, now everyday on my way home from work i hope there aren't to many rooted ones cause i don't feel like planting everyday, you took all the worry away, thank again broth.

I like your compact design. I also had killer results with the bubble cloner. I used one for a few years.

Best of luck to ya, R.

glad i could help you've made my whole grow no kidding the worry and anxiety were killing me, anything, advice, build, method, here or elsewhere that you've posted that iv read, is gold, never failed, your a great contributor to the cause love ya!

In my original post I said I did not know why I cut the leaf ends on my cuttings. I am using the same technique I learned years ago (without ever questioning it) and it has worked well for me. So if you choose not to cut the leaf ends, I have nothing to say about it.

I can not defend the logic in my leaf cutting, other then telling you it has worked for me (or has not caused problems).
Years ago I read that it's good to trim your cutting's leafs in half. I'm not sure why I do this, but it seems to work well:

I don't think anyone needs to get hung up on such details. My methods has worked for myself and hundreds of other folks over the years.

Best of luck with your cloning, R.

I'm a bubbler myself. But the tutorial is by far one of the best I've seen on here esp. with how everything was described step by step w/pics. Kudos

the theory behind that is to reduce the transpiration surface of the leaves and also to keep the leaves of an entire tray full of cuttings from overlapping and developing moisture between the overlapped leaves. That's generally only a problem if you're using a humidity dome though. If you're using an aerocloner, you could skip the leaf cutting stage if you wanted..

I have heard this explanation for leaf cutting before and it seems like sound logic. But I have no real proof and have not tested it one way or another.
I just thought I would add the disclaimer because some folks are freaking-out about small details they don't agree with and not looking at any usefulness of the build (hoping most folks here are not like that).
This thread is more about the building of a clone machine and less about making cuttings.

Thank you! I was not feeling real welcome here, but that feeling is going away.

Hi Rumple,

Good to see ya mate. Very nice DIY with pics. The water's fine over here, too. Gotta get out of the 'City every now and then!

Now that a certain person's no longer here, many folks are breathing a mite easier around these parts, also... ;)

Cheers,

-SX

you're welcome man, and not just you're welcome for
the thank you, you're welcome here, at ICMag.

believe me, most here are here to learn and to teach,
to share what we know so we all grow, lol, no pun etc.

and for real, nice work on the build and the presentation,
it isn't something i'd ever be interested in as i use,
and am very happy with, a passive wicking method that
works real well for me but i can tell by looking that this
would work very well.

btw, i also clip the leaves on my cuts despite what the
naysayers say, lol.

anyway, K+ for sharing man, that's what counts.

peace, and stay safe, SOG

Due to my position in life (stuck) I am not able to put the same cuttings into this type of apparatus.
I would like to say that I might be able to do cuttings from multiple other plants. This is a great (highly) detailed and explained DIY project. I hope that I get the chance to try it out in the near future.
I would like to thank you for sharing this tid bit of info with us.
Oh yeah welome and glad to see you here.

I forgot to add, that you should use pure or distilled water for best results. Chlorine is bad for your plant at any stage but is exceptionally bad for your cuttings.

Don't be a knuckle-head, always use clean water:bashhead:
