You can drink mercury without getting poisoned. Insinde of our digestive system aren't the right conditions for mercury to be turned in salts and be resorbed. Iirc there was a scientist that drank mercury and everything did come out again.
The mad hatters inhaled the mercury vapors which can lead to an enrichmend in your body and poisoning(imo in other parts of the body can be the right conditions to convert the elemental mercury into salts)
Imo worst is mercury with an organic attachment like methylmercury, thats the stuff that gets enriched in the foodchain and made eating marine seafood regular a problem these days.

I still wouldn't advice doing it. It (slowly) absorbs through the skin and releases vapours in room temperature. Not that dangerous, but not exactly safe to handle.
I've done a few daguerrotypes. They are traditionally developed with mercury vapour (mercury in a small vessel and flame under it), but we opted for a safer method

Even in the clip the Russian advises against doing it as most people inadvertently inhale vapour while attempting to.
Yeah don't inhale it .. even baking soda is killer if u inhale..
Point being, don't believe what everyone tells you, use your brain that God gave you..

Like I said, pure, elemental mercury is pretty harmless. It does release vapors though, that can be bad if you handle mercury regularly.
I didn't get my info from the news, I have a bachelor's in chemistry.
The one drop thing I was talking about was dimethyl mercury. Read about this poor soul if you want. A few drops fell on her glove, and that was all it took to kill her in less than a year. Horrible experience, really:

I have a medical card and used to have the most insane med weed, it was outdoor grown and was better smoke then anything on the market now, yes, even your market.
That was years ago, since 2019 the med weed has become so low in quality it's insane
So I switched to home growers, people who had the dank for years, but they had even worse quality !
