It seems obvious but it bears repeating - the best way to avoid trouble is to dress, act, talk and look like boring John Q Citizen. If I had to transport significant herb I'd get a haircut and shave, put on my best business suit, put a laptop and manila folders & papers on the front seat, and have a boring, routine story about the trip for the cops.
When they see someone in a business suit in a clean car their small pig-like brains go dormant and they won't bother you, I swear this is true. I've been given many speeding tickets with weed in the car with zero problems, they didn't even think of searching my car or calling in a dog, they thought I was just another boring clean-cut man.
If you get pulled over for a routine stop and start refusing to answer casual questions like "where are you going today" you're going to flag yourself for more attention.
