Tort reform! Brings back memories...

Tort reform was one of the great shibboleths of Republicans in the past: torts are suits for payment of damages, and especially loathed by businesses who likewise hate regulations. Damaging the customer, the culture, the ecosystem is FAIR GAME for the wealthy, so republicans got sicced on high-damage cases, paid tons of money to defame and further damage the people already damaged by their product or service, but this was all long ago.

Deregulation is the trick pony now: if you can get them rolled back then business can get right to work exceeding previously established limits at the public’s peril and your profit.

Not that most of them pay any attention to regulations and regulators (see “regulatory capture”), but as the saying goes, it will only encourage them.

Fidelity Investments in its third-quarter retirement report has a new warning for its greedy baby boomer clients: portfolio risk has never been higher as retirees are overly exposed to equities, running a serious risk that the next market meltdown could wipe out their retirement accounts, reported Bloomberg.
The report notes more than 33% of baby boomer clients have exceeded Fidelity’s recommended allocation to equities.

Some have argued stocks are the only game in town, and those dependent on retirement accounts have certainly not found yield in the government bond market.
Shockingly, 10% of all boomer clients have given up on traditional retirement accounts and have allocated 100% of their savings into stocks.
If it’s the chase for yield or greed or the belief in “the greatest economy ever,” there’s one thing certain: boomers investing with Fidelity have lost traditional investing focus. They aren’t prepared whatsoever for the next market plunge, as we’ve warned earlier this week — the world’s richest investors are preparing for market turbulence.
Other highlights in the report showed boomer retirement accounts, on average, dipped to around $105k, a 1% drop QoQ, despite equity markets rising to new highs. Maybe they weren’t fully allocated to one stock, such as Apple or Microsoft.

The Ohio House on Wednesday passed the "Student Religious Liberties Act." Under the law, students can't be penalized if their work is scientifically wrong as long as the reasoning is because of their religious beliefs.

China is selling its most advanced “fully autonomous” military drones with fears that it could lead to a bloodbath in the Middle East.
The Asian superpower is reportedly selling AI-enhanced combat drones to the region, with potentially disastrous consequences.
Prof Toby Walsh, of the University of NSW, in Australia, said: “They would be impossible to defend yourself against.
“Once the shooting starts, every human on the battlefield will be dead.”
US Defence Sec Mark Esper has said that China is selling drones programmed to decide themselves who lives or dies.
He told a conference on Artificial Intelligence: “As we speak, the Chinese government is already exporting some of its most advanced military aerial drones to the Middle East as it prepares to export its next generation stealth UAVs when those come online.

President Donald Trump called a jury’s verdict against his former campaign associate Roger Stone a “double standard.”
On Friday, moments after the verdict was revealed finding Stone guilty on seven counts against him, Trump questioned why others who used government resources to stage a coup attempt against his presidency aren’t being held to the same standard.
“So they now convict Roger Stone of lying and want to jail him for many years to come. Well, what about Crooked Hillary, Comey, Strzok, Page, McCabe, Brennan, Clapper, Shifty Schiff, Ohr & Nellie, Steele & all of the others, including even Mueller himself? Didn’t they lie?….”
