In over my head - OG Panama Red

Here is the largest female at 28 days from seed. This strain is growing about 2 inches a day right now. They all are bigger than 7 week old clones. Pics taken in natural sunlight. I do have to say that the plants are gorgeous. The clones don't really have a smell but these sure do already.

Another question:

I was reading about lighting. Some say 24 hours on all the time and some say 18/6. What is the consensus here and why? I was reading that 24 hours on is the new norm.

Anyone else use light movers? Do you find it increases your yield etc?

Great advice on trying to get as many seeds as I can. You are right. I think I have about 80 left of the old ones or so but I can then get fresh seeds correct which would be better than the older ones? In all honesty, I would love to send them around the world once done and actually do a good thing in the cannabis world. How cool would that be? Can you send seeds over the border? I guess I could ship pollen correct?

I just uploaded pics of the largest female at 28 days from seed in natural light. How does it compare to yours? I do notice the leaves are HUGE compared to other sativas I have growing.

Another question. With these seeds being so old and cloning off of them, is there a chance of a genetic fuckup from the DNA of the old seeds messing with the strain and making somewhat of a new strain?

No the age doesn´t matter. Old seeds either germinate or not. The plants that growing are genetically the same as if you´ve sproutet it 10 yrs earlier.

Sometimes plants from old seed look crippled or growing slower. But genetically, they are flawless individuals. Fresh seeds just have better germinate rate.

Yeah I really feel how excited you are :woohoo:

It´s important to know, that plants need a rest to regenerate.

Hormonal processes take place in dark phase, so that they can start photosynthesis start again. Therefore 24/0 are not really beneficial.

Have a look to the nature. There they have also a night every day. The plants are adapred to that. You can experiment and extend or reduce the duration of light. But weather its good or bad depends of the genetics (how are the conditions at panama e.g.?)

Yeah give seeds all over the world, send some to europe ;-)

Took 3 clones off the females yesterday and last night, they were all laying down in the soil. I was sad. Just checked on them and 2 are standing straight up nice and tall. I slit the bottom stem in half and coated in honey/water combination and planted them. We shall see if they take. Would love to get 2-3 female clones going as well. I was always given clones and never did it myself.

Thanks! Can you ship seeds internationally? Asking for a friend.
In germany it´s not allowed to order seeds. shipping within the country usually nothing happens. But from not eu states it is dangerous. but there are ways to do it ;)

Very nice work on preserving this strain. Cool you found those gems hidden away after all those years.
Sharing seeds is not allowed on the public forms. Wait till you get 50 posts and you can send private messages.

Best of luck and may all your Buds be Huge.

Peace GG

29 days from seed and the pr babies are all sexed. We have 5 female and 2 males. (I also took off 5 clones from 2 large females already that are in a dome)

Someone said to clone a male and I want to explore that a bit. Once I get the large tent set up in the basement, I will have a 2x2 that i can open up for the male. This is done just for pollen correct? This tent could be in the basement with the open pollination going on?

Someone said to let babies get 18 inches or so and then switch lights to breed.

Is it normal to have females quite a bit larger than the males?

Pic is of last female sexed today. (I sure hope I'm right. I'm just joking :)

Thanks for all your help in doing this. I only need 48 more posts. lol

Hi, I can´t regognize any details on the pic because of the disco light :D

Concratulations about it! very kool that there are 2 males.. Taking clones from a male can be beneficial, if it has great traits. Few male have more trichomes then other e.g. I looking forward to the males. :)

Another grower pointed out rightly that a Panama Red that's 30 inches tall when it starts to flower is likely to stretch like crazy. End up over 6 feet tall. This is true but he also pointed out that yours look like hybrids which is what I went with when I gave my advice. The look of your plants, not their genetics. This is why I advised you to let them get decent sized, going by my experience they look like hybrids that are tamed for indoor growing. Plants with that growth pattern aren't likely to stretch more then a foot or so.

I'd expect them to flower much quicker then a 100% tropical landrace Panama Red as well. This isn't discouragement, as a hobby grower without a lot of experience you'll have a lot more success with an indoor strain. Tropical long season type plants do much better in greenhouses then indoors under artificial lighting. Once you successfully harvest a few crops you may be interested in more challenging strains but I'd get the basics down first.

It sounds like you haven't successfully cloned before. It takes some trial and error before you get it right. I'm not going to go into much detail because there's a ton of info out there on how to clone. Soil is a poor medium for rooting clones, you can use it successfully if it's all you have but it's much easier in something sterile like rockwool or perlite. Fluorescent lighting is best for rooting clones but you can make it work with other types. Using a covered tray is standard for rooting clones.

I'd recommend using 24 hour lighting when rooting clones. I always used 24 hour lighting in my Veg room as well, never had any problems. You can certainly go 18/6 and there may be advantages, especially in saving power but cannabis doesn't mind the endless days. Cannabis thrives in the wild in parts of Russia near the Arctic Circle where the sun never sets, maybe this is why it adapts. Hatman makes a good point that the metabolic rate of plants changes during darkness and the period of darkness may be beneficial. I've personally never seen much of a difference. My main reason for going 24 in Veg was convenience. So I wouldn't have to screw around with a timer, worry about light leaks or what time of day I wanted to access my plants. In other words it's fool proof. One less way I could sabotage myself, for instance by setting the timer 6 hours on 18 off. (Which I've done...)

Thank you for this. I'm trying to take it all in and make notes. I bought a 10 foot tall grow tent just in case :)

I got clones from a friend but have never cloned before. 48 hours ago, I took 5 off of the panama babies and this morning, all are standing up so I'm confident. They are under a dome.

I have always done the 24 hours on too and might go to 18/6 to see if it makes a difference here. The clones are in a tent that rh is at 74% and temp is 28 and so far, they seem to be doing ok. I'll have to watch them to make sure I get them into different sized pots ASAP if it looks like they will take. I assume good things if they are all still alive in say 3-4 days?

I hope it is a hybrid strain as you are right. IF they were like that, I'd be scrambling trying to figure out plants that were growing me right out of the tent. This strain so far has not been hard but I've only had them growing for a month :)

So far, I think I'm going to let them get about 18"-24" and then flip them so that I can make sure they are controlled in the large tent that I still have to put together.

Interesting background on the strains you gave. That is crazy.

Again, thank you for all of your help.

Cheers,
