Question: I just got the 4x8x10 tent for these babies. If I do an open pollination, how does this affect the tent after as in pollen sticking around in it? Would bleaching the tent from top to bottom after this is done be enough so I could put females in the tent only? Thanks

Ps I also got a light mover and have to figure out how to install that but I think it will be a good thing. :peacock:

Pollen only lasts a while and a spritz of water will neutralise it.

I would seperate the males, as soon as they spend pollen (it may be around the 17th day of flowering). When females a good amount of flowers (between day 25-35), put the males back to them. Before you start pollinating act check the males that there is no hermaphrodite (there should be no pistil between the males flower).

After 2-3 days of open pollinating all ladies should be pollinated. Then you can spray water on plants and tent (top to bottom) to neutralize pollen - its the safe method. But dry pollen dies after a couple of dayys days, too. After that you can put other females in that tent.

oh kool, i had google that, because I didn´t know that. But it seems to make a good job. I´m looking forwanrd to your installation :)

So, in an open pollination, the plants don't have to be that tall correct? I was reading that I could let them get 18" or so high and then do it?

Great job getting those to germinate.

First thing to do is to take clones and make sure you have two or more clones from each plant including the males. Once the clones are rooted and growing put the females in the flower tent on 12/12 light cycle.

After two weeks of the females being in the flowering tent add the males. A HEPA filter on the tent exhaust is a common way to prevent pollen from escaping the tent.

Just keep the plants happy with a BLOOM nutrient such as Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Soil. I would use something like that or comparable, aquarium water might work but it would be safer to use a known nutrient. Read less headaches!

The males will pollinate the females and evidence of that will be browning of the hairs on the flowers. A small fan in the tent would be good. No need for a big fan just something to circulate the air some.

Once you see the seeds are ripe, brown and tiger striped let the plants go one more week. The seeds will be ripe 5-7 weeks after the males release pollen.

Cut the plants down whole and hang them to dry, you can use you tent for that. Once dry you can separate the seeds and it doesn't hurt to wash them in a strainer with room temp water. Once they dry they can be kept in a mason jar in the refrigerator.

After your plants are harvested wipe the tent down with water and then I usually use some light bleach water to clean the tent really well. This will take care of any remaining pollen. Throw away the HEPA filters.

Sidenote, if you think of it or have the time, collect pollen from each male in parchment paper, label, and store in the freezer in the parchments, in a jar with a little rice. This can be used to pollinate single branches of your other clones in the future or to send a packet to a friend. Wink wink. Haha

It seems like a lot of work but it really isn't and it is Noble work as saving Colombian Red is a huge deal!

Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions, I am more than glad to help!

Questions:
1. I understand the taking clones thing. Do you mean putting the female clones in the flower tent on 12/12? What about the full sized plants I have right now? Why take clones from the males?
2. I have always used budjuice. I hope that's ok.
3. This maybe a stupid question but is the shake viable in this situation to make into salves etc?
Thanks

I'm going to see if I can grab a few clones today off the known females.

If you're worried about the pollen seeding your clones you can separate the males in a different room. Collect the pollen from each male, mix it together and apply it to the females individually. his will also insure it's a true open pollination and not just the first male to dump it's pollen on the females. I don't ever let pollen fly all over the place, once it's out of the bag you can't put it back.

The bigger your plants get the more seed you get. I'd let the plants get decent sized, 24-30 inches. This way you get at least a few hundred seed and probably more. You don't want a scenario where you get less then 100. This seems like a lot of seeds, more then you'll ever need but that's what you want. Nothing is worse then trying to preserve a strain with a dozen seed. (what you're doing!) You want to be able to screw up and be wasteful. The next round, after an open pollination you want to do the opposite. Select the best of the best.

I like the idea of taking clones of each female, keeping them labeled. I'd do the same for males since you have such a limited number of plants. Males are often neglected because they're perceived to lack value. Of course they do for flower production but with small numbers a special male can be as useful as a female for a breeder. In case something goes wrong. You aren't a production type commercial grower, as a small scale hobby grower you don't need a lot of mothers. Once you make your seeds you can narrow down to the best one or two females.

One thing to watch out for is 'outliers'. A hermaphrodite for instance. Or if there's a male or female that Autoflowers or flowers extremely early or late. Or a plant that shows a negative type mutation, grows very slow or branches in a weird way. I'd leave an outlier out of the open pollination especially if it's a male. When you have a small number of plants, a plant with a strong negative trait cause far more damage then with larger numbers. If you did an open pollination with 100 males, if two of them have a negative mutation only 2% of the seeds will carry it. If you have 3 males and one has a negative mutation, 1/3 of the seed will carry it.

WOW.. good on ya wanting to learn and preserve this strain!

Best of luck to ya, the experienced here will walk you through the steps to preserve.. then return the favor and make the genetics available. You have something desirable..

I def will return the favour and make available for sure. I have 13 other plants going into flower in the next few weeks and I'm not even sure what the heck I'm going to do with all THAT once it's done. lol Next project is breeding the panama to a gravedigger. lol This hobby is spinning right out of control, I tell you. lol

I agree with @ therevverent .. he gives you the right advice

heheh I promise you, when you´ve harvested your first own seeds, you are addicted to breeding. Then the only thing that counts is: more, more and more ;-)

I think I get to give it a name too right? I'm thinking 'Tough chicks in Panama' :woohoo:

What the hell do you do with all your weed? hahaha I've got 13 plants going into flower in a few weeks. (cactus breath, OG Kush, Tropicana Cookies and PPP) and I'm wondering what to do with it all. hahaha You are right though. It is addictive. I like the clones but find it so nice when I can do seeds and just clone my own and then I don't have to worry about bugs etc. Maybe I need to open up a cannabis store or start a subscription service or something. haha

Another question. With these seeds being so old and cloning off of them, is there a chance of a genetic fuckup from the DNA of the old seeds messing with the strain and making somewhat of a new strain?

Good luck with the reproduction. I have what I feel are legit PR seeds from Snowhigh and I also believe the ones from Dr. Greenthumb. Tripped out high with right pheno.

I will compare your plant to mine that I have going. I get the feeling PR has a bit of indica in the mix but could be wrong.
