“I also figured out why I don't have drips. The control refills fast enough that when I hit equilibrium from my drainage, I'm about 1/2 inch above where the float shuts down. I tweaked it in an equilibrium state, so I'm maintaining my 3 inch air gap, but it probably has to drop to 3.5" before I get feed from the bulk again.
Also, I have a 3" tailpiece. I know I haven't mentioned that detail in a year or so... but...”
this is why I run a separate pump bucket. When the pump fires in a separate bucket than the control bucket the draw down on the control bucket is delayed and slowed. This, in turn, gives the plant reservoirs time to catch up before much new solution enters the system from the volume tanks. The lack of a separate pump bucket is causing the input of fresh solution into the control bucket to be much greater and is creating the overburden.
did you not mention somewhere that your ec rises significantly?
Also, is your tailpiece long enough to actually be in the solution all the time?
i realize that you are growing a huge healthy plant with the way things are but i think it would function better with a separate pump bucket. solution stability and all that.
i think that it is important for the sub-irrigation system to function at least part of the time to control salts.
i think you are on the right track overall and i am about to finish the changeover to the larger pulse lines.
i will rely more on hysteresis for dispersal but will increase frequency more than volume.
