ImaginaryFriend's INTERPRETATION of Delta9nxs' PASSIVE PLANT KILLERS

“I also figured out why I don't have drips. The control refills fast enough that when I hit equilibrium from my drainage, I'm about 1/2 inch above where the float shuts down. I tweaked it in an equilibrium state, so I'm maintaining my 3 inch air gap, but it probably has to drop to 3.5" before I get feed from the bulk again.

Also, I have a 3" tailpiece. I know I haven't mentioned that detail in a year or so... but...”

this is why I run a separate pump bucket. When the pump fires in a separate bucket than the control bucket the draw down on the control bucket is delayed and slowed. This, in turn, gives the plant reservoirs time to catch up before much new solution enters the system from the volume tanks. The lack of a separate pump bucket is causing the input of fresh solution into the control bucket to be much greater and is creating the overburden.

did you not mention somewhere that your ec rises significantly?

Also, is your tailpiece long enough to actually be in the solution all the time?

i realize that you are growing a huge healthy plant with the way things are but i think it would function better with a separate pump bucket. solution stability and all that.

i think that it is important for the sub-irrigation system to function at least part of the time to control salts.

i think you are on the right track overall and i am about to finish the changeover to the larger pulse lines.

i will rely more on hysteresis for dispersal but will increase frequency more than volume.

Swings severely while the system is active. But stable overall? Salts re-entering solution?

Ah... a three inch diameter tail piece... it sits a couple of inches above the bottom of the 3.5... so yeah... sub irrigation all the time. I was mentioning it as it may provide more direct drainage than a 1.5" tailpiece.

I think we are getting back into gardening with regard to the frequency vs. volume debate. One can increase frequency to the degree that the media drains... that is, the more it drains, the more often it can be pulsed. The more often it is pulsed, the more often it changes gas, and the more 'fresh' O2 rich air is in the root zone. Provided you can watch and see what is happening.

The other issue, of course, is that the more porous the media consistency, the less feed buffering the whole of the root zone receives from sub-irrigation.

As for the volume issue, if you are shooting for media submersion, once you hit that level, no more volume (within reason) will effect the system.

My upper root zone is so dense that no coco moves anymore, and the perk time is around thirty seconds.

This may have accelerated the root development beyond a reasonable level. Timely flips may now become a new issue. Or increasing the root volume to decrease root density.

Out of space. Dumped the wattage. May have to walk from this one.

Super fun grow though. Learned massive amounts!

I had forgotten that you were using the 3” one. Remember the 1.5” tailpiece has grown a 22 oz plant.

yes, until you reach the point of redundancy and the only way I can think of to determine this point is with an oxygen meter. Or a thousand hours of careful observation and record keeping, you first.

“My upper root zone is so dense that no coco moves anymore, and the perk time is around thirty seconds.”

I got that wall to wall top root growth also when I switched to automated top watering. So dense it's hard to stick your finger through it. But I got it with a much lower volume than you are using so I feel it has more to do with just keeping it wet during veg than volume.

“Out of space. Dumped the wattage. May have to walk from this one.”

man, I hope you don't have to do that! Defoliate everything with a petiole. Thin out the weaker bud sites and tie everything else down tight. How much more time do you need? It has to be finished with stretch by now.

Existing plumbing dictated the build... it seems okay. Wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel, just save a trip. Been good for a year now.

Dropped wattage from 1340W to .8xxK or something. Better structure farther away from lights.

I know I need the meter...

I'll try and pull everything away from the lights.

Temps sit between 76-80 degrees, RH 50-60 degrees. Fixing environmental conditions has created a monster.

Hey d,

Well intended, thoughtful advice is always welcome.

Have you noticed that at every tier of defolation, we hit a smaller secondary and tertiary structured fans?

Right now, my leads are throwing the smallest sort of 'shade leaves'... three iches maybe. Anway, they're operating within they're space allotment, and things are stacking really nicely right now.

That doesn't mean it'll all work out... I've really overgrown this space... but I like what I see.

I'm in a unique--for me at least--spot to let this one run for as long as she's fun, but the I've got a few full jars, my freezer is full of baked goods... so if it goes too far out of the fun zone, I can let her go and think about the next build, and still be okay until while I synthesize this grow and adjust for the next.

Call me out will you?

Takes a lot more than prodding to get me off the couch...

I got a couple of older shots, and can take a couple of newer shots soon.

But getting me off my ass... that takes a little more than a demand for pics.

(Really, I told myself I wouldn't log on and that I'd get some sleep. I'll try and get some shit uploaded in the next few days.)

So I have the materials to start building me a rppk (real passive plant killer), and I have just one question.... Never mind, I found my answer in a fortune cookie...

Here is the Strawberry Cough Runt at 8 weeks 12/12! Still bulking up, but almost done!

If you wont post recent pics, I guess I will!

Ha.

Well...

Played some games.

Learned some things...

Pic from day twelve of flower:

And a couple from 43ishness:

Had very informative time playing with environmental conditions, but eventually my design failed after overgrowing the space, and compromising my protocols that made all insight after... oh... about 12 days of flower non instructive.

Fun though.

Lost all of my canopy airflow. Plant was leaning against herself for support, that got disrupted just before these pics.

Oh well, live and learn.

Had to cut my wattage down to 2x360. Too much amorphous growth.

Hey oo...

Those '43ish' pics are actually from ten or so days ago when I promised to post...

I usually run this lady to around nine weeks, so another ten days or so.

I got pretty casual with my feeding, and learned some interesting things about Jacks and phases of growth... I definitely didn't try and keep the feed solution at optimum levels. But I have reinforced my belief that the single reservoir for multiple phases of growth in perpetual is what keeps a PPK a no change system...

I really wish I had been able to keep up with my air flow, and keep the lamps farther from the canopy. I could have easily scrogged her into a 5x5 space at least with the quantity of light I was throwing at her.

The last year or so has drilled into my soul the old teachings of VPD/environmental factors being primary. I should have trusted more, but I never had to deal with some of the extreme conditions I recently created for myself before--the world tended to keep things within acceptable ranges without my direct influence.

So a thanks to all those who tried to teach me that most important lesson directly or indirectly.

But I've learned it now. All future designs will be built around airflow, temp and humidity control/stability. (This one had a bottom forced intake, with a top outlet. Then the canopy clogged the whole deal like a diaper in a sewer pipe.)

i hate it when i get a diaper stuck in a sewer pipe!

on a scale of 1 to 10, lighting gets a 6, environment gets a 3, and everything else put together get a 1.

or maybe it's 5,4.5, and .5

but it could be 4,4, and 2!

i'm very interested in the dry weight of this one.

and i request a photo of the roots, if possible.

what's your plan on the next one?

hi, OO!

what's your plan on the next one?

For sure:

1. Lights farther away. I keep overgrowing my space, and running into too much localized intensity, not enough penetration/even distribution...

2. Bigger root zone.

3. Looser media.

Maybe:

Insulated room(s)?

Side by side 5x5's flipping one plant scrogs?

Rapid fire 2.5x2.5 Mod scrogs?

Marlo Vert Scrogs?

I really don't know.

Need to deal with the environment stuff first... May be a while. Lots of other stuff to deal with in the short term...

So whats wrong with wild? Looks like some good smoke coming your way.

You know the first rule of tinkering: "Its only when you fuck something up, that you learn the most."

Come on admit it, you love this.

You know I love it.

This canopy was chaotic. Like spaghetti.

Only without Lady or the Tramp.

Not Disney style.

But really, I just post in this thread to make sure you're still alive, oo.

Where the hell is run four?

Too damn boring?

What about the new genetics?

Huh?
