Umm Why ?

No seriously! Why >?

That IMO is too much energy being wasted on something that you want to work because its somehow cool or nifty to you, but falls short of actually being useful.

Cups, Peat Pellets, water cloner, all seem to be more useful and efficient .

Too me its a waste of money on silly things.

I dont know.... I think its the coolest cloner you dont plug in...

Ive use cups, rapid rooters and water cloners....and none work better than this gizmo.....

Here we just set it and forget it.....

I had even given him some rep and thanked him for his contribution.....

some folks seem to think you only deserve respect if you have a lot of public rep points, like you don't know shit if you don't have
a lot of rep.

this isn't the only thread either where people come late to the party and then want to tell everyone how their way is better!
lol! ...without actually reading the thread!

anyway, anyone who's taken the time to actually read through the thread
already knows how cheap and easy this thing really is! ...and your connection
to it! (the fact they don't PROVES they DIDN'T)

rotflmao

(i dumped COX so i'm reduced to a very occasional, borrowed connection,
at least for the time being so it might not be for a couple weeks before i'll
be able to get pics of the build but i'm really psyched, got 220watts of PLL's
and a Fulham Workhorse 8 just raring to get wired up and fired up, lol)

how's that for a run-on sentence, lol!

I hear ya....

Ive tried their way....

The people who seem to bitch the loudest are the guys who have never tried it...

I love this thing.....

I admit it....it looks a little rinkydink.... but it works like a champ.....

While the clones may take a little effort getting them out....

Its a small price for a set it and forget it cloner.....

lol, hey man, lol, just last week i finally got around to drilling holes in
some pennies and screwing them to 6 inch length's of dowel rod (i tried
to hot glue them to pencils but that didn't work, lol).

i've also started to leave my cut's in longer to allow for a more fully developed
root system before i pot them up, i'm still dialing in my SOG and i think i'll get
better yield's if i let the roots develop longer.

anyway, while i don't have your history with this, i've used it long enough to
KNOW this is the cheapest, easiest, most reliable, idiot-proof cloning method
there is and i thank you again for sharing it.

lol, i'm SO convinced i'm custom building a cab AROUND 4 of 'em, lol.

Centrum- I can explain why. I tried peat pots,to wet. I tried dirt, fungas knats were in it when bought. Major headache. Tried low pressure aero, worked good first time after that had a goo problem. I switched to growing Hempy style and don't want dirt or peat pots in my hempy. This way is fairly idiot proof and well... I'm not an idiot but I am ignorant. If you know the difference.
On a different track. I've just done another experiment with making very small hempy cups to sprout seeds. The same cups as SirSmokalot uses. I believe 3oz. filled with NAPA sweeping compound. I thought it was a bust. No seeds sprouting. I was going to give up but I put a heating mat under them and they shot up in one day. So that's going to be my new seed starter and I'll keep using the ice tube for clones. I think the ice tube cloner is a good simple no bull way to get some clones going. Works for me. Also sprouts seeds fairly well. For me. One reason that I haven't listed and is the major reason I'm expending so much effort is this. I have some seeds that are very special to me. I only have a very few. It is imperative that I have them all sprout. I'm willing to waste a great deal of seeds, time, and effort to make sure I have the very best foolproof system so that these seeds are not wasted. So I'm trying everything I can think of. The ice tube is consistent and reliable for me but I'm also trying other methods.

my first (and best) seed sprouting experience was soak overnight in shot glass w/ one drop superthrive, then into cups with moist pro mix for seedlings, cover top with cling wrap and bam - 100%

SOmething that I just thought of - if you dont have a thermostat on your heat mat, just plug it into a cheap timer 15 on 15 off and it does great.

One problem I have is there is no such thing as a grow shop where I live. So I have to use what I can find. I'll look into superthrive.
I really believe that I can make the NAPA soil dry work. I sprouted some seeds in it and they just stared shooting up. It seems a perfect material. It adsorbs large amounts of water but since it's small pebbles it allows a lot of air. Kinda like a really small Hydroton. So far it seems to be in between dirt and hempy with respect to how it needs water. Leaning towards dirt. Unlike dirt it never cracks or mushes up and doesn't have any beast living in it.

it took almost 2 wks for some of them but all of my cuttings have now took root. that sure is a neat little trick..i did change water 4 or 5 times because it got so green i couldnt see the thermometer in the bottom of container,hehehe..tickles the shit out of me cause now i dont have to beg for clones any more.YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHA..thanks

Im pleased that the cloner worked for you....

I am most befuddled about your algae problem.....

While I may get a bit its not more than that......

Any ideas why you might have that issue?????

What temps were you using???

Anyone else with algae issues???

Bugs

Bugs

No Algae here - but I do have clusters of these tiny little bugs floating around in mine - I am playing around with this thing with various houseplant cuttings and noticed little clumps of what looked like peat dust floating around. When I put my finger in it they went nuts flipping around all over the place. Here is a pic of what the clusters look like. Out of the water they jump around like fleas. The only bugs that I've seen in the space are fungus gnats - but these look nothing like their larvae???

EDIT: Pretty sure they're a semi aquatic springtail - not really a threat

Going to wal -mart soon to try this side by side with rapid rooters and jiffys trying to find the best way without rookwool for my patients!!

temp stayed 75 to 80..even cleaned container with clorox and dishwashin soap.. as long as i can count on most of the cuttings turnin into clones i'll change the water every day.. been tryin to learn how to clone for almost 2 years with nothin but aggravation..i realize now that the heating pad and temp is all important...now i cant wait til these grow big enough so i can take cuttings off them, hehehe.

I for one would love to see a side by side of the 3 methods....

I for one however find that the additional expense of rapid rooters isnt required......

I hope you post your results....

Cosmic cowboy....indeed I stress the need to monitor temps.....

IMO I get the best results over 80 degrees.....

Your clones would probably be a bit faster with slightly higher temps.....

good luck.....

How to kill algae. From the start add 1/4 teaspoon 3% H2O2 per quart to your water. I also spray a couple of squirts of pure H2O2 on the top of the vermiculite before I water. If you do this you will need to water the vermiculite from the top to dilute the H2O2. No algae will grow. If algae is growing other more detrimental fungus can grow and you risk root rot. I noticed in some of my Hempy grows that the ones that had algae growing on top of the pots stagnated terribly. I'm not 100% sure but it may be that the algae is putting out some kind of poison that slows the growth of other plants. If this is true it could be the same for clones. I'm going to collect some of the algae and at a later grow put it on two plants pots and see if they slow growth.
