Why involve Arjan? Im guessing he want to get close to the entries to see what fine cannabis looks like!
I expect all the judges passes will be snapped up off seedbay by GHSco groupies once they go on sale and hardly any IC mag members will get a look in.
I shall try and keep an open mind but surely GN & DG realise the implications of Arjans involvement.

Perhaps.... as much as I hate to say it, with greenhouses power of self promotion, the word of the cup will increase and they can have enough people to make it profitable yet still have the feeling of an intimate IC420.....
After all its not the number of people who make it bad, its the quality of people who are attracted to and attend the event!
I for one am just glad there WILL be a cup!!!

Anyway, the 420 Cup used to be great because it was underground and only real growers showed up and shared great times. No money was involved really, except generating Sbay sales.
ICMAG turned into OG tho folks. There is alot of money to be made. Should Gypsy sit around and twiddle fingers or get rich like Arjan? If you can't beat them ($) join them ($$$). Why wouldn't Gypsy want the 420 Cup to grow and overshadow HTCC? Why wouldn't he want to fill his pockets with $$$?
This is business, sales, marketing, stop whining. Nothing will ever be the same.
And belive me, the few posts about being happy they didn't book trips, and Greenhouse groupies, and "blind votes" are definitely right on with my experience and guesses.

well I'm still planning on getting my hands on a judge's pass so as to be able to try out the entries. I doubt the quality of the growing will suddenly disappear just because the "King of Cannabis" has helped find the venue

this event is not supposed to be about making fucking money. enough money is made by selling the seeds of the winners. so that argument flops...
i much prefer last years party to anything that involves the GH. i mean how much sense does it make to involve a guy with a shady rep for fixing cups in our 420 growers cup? the 420 has a sterling reputation up to now, why risk losing it? i hope i'm wrong and it is merely about Arjan doing GN a favor with the venue.
a venue is nice to have, but not worth selling out for. i really really really hope that GN, OP and DG keep the reins firmly in their own hands.
in the end most of us are happy without a big commercial event, it would be a great shame to lose the 420's intimate atmosphere. sure we will have fun what ever but it would be a shame to let 420 devolve to the level of the htcc, not saying that's not also a fun event. it's just that i feel one htcc is enough per annum. and in my eyes that's not what the 420 is about.

The way I see it is that HTCC is a huge commercial circus for tourists, just like many of the coffeeshops in Amsterdam, but IC420 is a growers cup... damn...

I would also assume that if larger seedcompanies or coffeeshops WERE allowed to enter that they would be judged among themselves even though Im pretty sure Rez would hold his own if not win up against GHSC especially if someone entered a particular Omega Diesel Pheno!!
I don't know that allowing others would knock out the small grower.... but again, even I am getting ahead of myself because NOTHING has been officially announced!

The best cup I enjoyed was the 2001 cup, the one that almost bankrupted 420Tours..... It was still a small intimate group even though it numbered about 1100 people.... The people were of similar mindsets who were willing to fly over 2 months after 9/11
So.... I stick by my assertions.....
1) Regardless of what the winning seeds make, it will take money to hold an event... and while its nice when 20 people sit and smoke in SB it could be equally nice if 1000 GROWERS showed up! But its hard enough getting a seat in the cypher once its started if there are 20 people!!
2) IF its open to the same growers the other cups were open to...there was a grower and seedcompany distinction adding a third or fourth category can not make it bad!
3)If its TRULY blind (as it was and I have no inclination that will change) then WHO CARES if ghsc is allowed to enter something (and again, up until now thats SPECULATION)
I just wish that we would hold on and wait for an OFFICIAL announcement before we start trashing people!
And EVERYONE knows where I stand on GHSC, Arjan and the commersh fiasco of the HTCC!!

i also don't see any problem with him entering, to the contrary it would be down right unfair to bar anyone.
as long as the system for judging remains the same (blind samples), we should have another clean 420 cup to celebrate.
anyone saying they will not come just because Arjan is involved, is selling them selves short. specially at this early juncture, no details what so ever have been released yet after all.
wow i never realized the 420 in 01 had over a 1000 people niemand, must have been awesome. the last time we were only about 60 members.
