This is HortiPharm in Santa Barbara...Raided and shut down 2 weeks ago.

I don't remember the name (yes the hash was that good) but there is a club in Venice right on the boardwalk. I'll try to get pics. Hash bar and a medicating room that has tinted bay windows overlooking the boardwalk and the beach. Cool thing about this place is that you can bring in your own meds and use their lounge to medicate in a safe atmosphere....beats lighting up in the car:)
I like this one. Looks like the upbeat coffee shop by our condo.

The ultimate form of appreciation to those that carried "the movement" would be to continue it forward.

There's really only one way to do that...plain and simple.

Keeping it back-room for the sake of a few is to do 'it', and us, an extreme disservice.

Freedom is exhausted at the point of "jumping through hoops" for the purpose of filing into a line.

Don't forget that we should be accepting and if the "public" (WTF?) can't afford us the same then we shouldn't want to change everything or lie about something to gain that.

As soon as someone says "He has dreadlocks, I'm not buying herb here." you could do everyone the favor of pointing out how unamerican that truly is.

If we need cookiecutter dispensaries I'm moving to an island. Once faith is lost it can't be replenished.

First things first. Lets get it legal, thats the goal. Then people can decide what kind of atmosphere they want to give their shop. Hey maybe there will be franchises like McDonalds. McReefer? Bet we could think of some good names. And I see people with dreads working in all kinds of places. But I don't assume they puff just because of it.We lived thru the hippie years, and hopefully learned that what you see isn't always what you get. What if you went to one in NJ and Tony Soprano was behind the counter? Would that matter? Better yet,Paulie, lol.

Starbucks will jump right IN...

Already selling a legal drug from cannabis producing countries.

It would only take a little push for some coffee growers to switch to fine Sativas.

Go build your cold sterile dispensary.

Patients enjoy the ambiance and companionship that many of these shops provide. That is why you see the shops you do...

If patients wanted a plain pharma style get in get out there would be more of them.

i am going to assume that you read through the entire thread before you made your statement that has been repeated by many... anyways...

cold? maybe cold in the eyes of people with little imagination... there are MANY ways to make a dispensary ..um...hot? would that be the word? .... anyways, I bet I can concoct a real HOT and SEXY dispensary that would gain the acceptance of them ALL... without being cold... and i am sure that all of the dispensary owners that are now more less catering to the recreational users with their current "stoner dorm room" look could do the same with only a few simple tweaks... yeah big herb i said tweak...

when you say they enjoy the ambiance and companionship that these shops provide, are you talking about what the owners or workers themselves provide, or what ? Because I am pretty sure a place can be set up real HOT and attract the likings of ALL.. and If I were the man behind the counter, you best believe that I would be able to provide them with companionship ... and if they needed some ambiance, im sure I can take care of that as well...

eventually it will come down to not what patients want, but what patients get... that is, if the dispensaries don't cater to what the law and the haters want first... it would be sad to see all of the selfish recreational users who insist a "groovy" or "hip" designed dispensary ruin it for the people who truly need their medicine regardless of the designs...its a simple trade off if you ask me..

I would just want a place that I can go to that is safe. I mean I'm already ill. Should I also risk my life getting my meds. I don't live in a med state, but my best friend is a card holding in LA. Some of the stories he tells me are scary. I never feel that way going to a pharmacy.

lil wayne: are you actually sick or do you lump into the "hip" catagory>?

And to everyone else... that club hortipharm was laundering money, just like the many others that have been raided in the past. They deserved to be shut down.

the clubs are a joke and they charge too much for herb we make for practically free. If they actually cared about their patients they would drop the price dramatically.

I think this issue is dead...

I guess we now have to degrade the ladies in order to make a point. Having a quality tranquil experience at a dispensary is something they need to offer their customers.

I agree with LW, I know I wouldn't want to walk into a rat trap of a place were freaks work with 85 face piercing's and dealing with filthy low grade, low quality med's handled by people who care less about their appearance so why would they care about what experience you have in their place of business.

Prices will drop dramatically if we can ever get MJ legalized. Hell, even the government recognizes that.

And personally, I wouldn't be an MMJ candidate but my elderly mother would be. I've discussed the issue with her and there's no way she'll even consider it as long as it's illegal. Too bad. I've researched her condition and there's ample research evidence showing that she'd benefit. That's a big reason I'm working to get MMJ fully legalized, not just by state law, but by federal law. It's hell watching someone you love suffer needlessly due to closed-minded politicians.

Okay. I'm going to leave this thread.

I need to say this before I go.

A very real and idealistic people still exist that coined the terms "groovy" and "hip". I'm not sure that they would want to burn those bridges.

I think there are those that would like represented that could say: "Make different types of dispensaries."

They still live here. They vote.

They might need medicine too.

:thank you:

No bridges would be burned at all... a state of the art dispensary could easily be created to entertain the liking of EVERYONE, whether they be big, small, black, white, wear tight pants, wear loose pants, wear a fitted cap, wear a cowboy cap, old in age, young in age, country music liking, hip hop music liking, bob marley fan, martha stewart fan, elvis fan, kiss fan, eminem fan, sublime fan, luther vandross fan, cadillac enthusiasts, dodge enthusiasts, missionary style loving, doggy style loving, same sex loving, incapable of loving, incapable of walking, incapable of talking...

you get my point right?

the only way you can get all those kinds of folks together in the same fucking place, AND make them ALL happy, is make it really fucking silly cheap (notice id didnt say anything about it being good quality too - just hella fucking cheap). when the wallet doesnt take a gouging to get a cart full of stuff its kinda hard to be mad.

if youve seen the people of walmart then you know what i mean because thats who youre talking about and thats where they all go

pretty soon theres a good chance we're gonna have "Lee (as in richard) greens" all over the fucking place in california. full of crap. for cheap.

edit: i do buy diapers at walgreens... maybe ill buy my bong cleaner at lee greens. and some pokers hehe...

Now add all these comments together and imagine you are a qualified patient. A person who is not familiar with pot culture. So you ask the Dr. he may or may not refer you to a caregiver. You know NOTHING about this CG,not even their real name. If they go according to the law here, the CG cannot start growing for the pt untill they get their card. So the CG starts a grow for you. How long then? Plants need time to grow,to dry and cure. Thats where the dispensary comes in. The pt is able to get quality meds during the grow time.

In a world where we're still trying to legitimize the market, any market at all, can we afford boutique-type dispensaries that cater to a particular cultural slice and thus alienate everyone else? I think that in many ways we can, but it's not going to be by making them look like a headshop or whatever. Here's a link to the NYTimes article I mentioned in my (over)long rant:

When Capitalism Meets Cannabis

This article is very typical of the national attention I've seen focused towards MMJ. Here's a little blurb that I find choice and exactly what we need to avoid as a community:

Another, Dr. Reefer — it’s the name of the dispensary and the trade name of the owner — is proudly ramshackle, in part because it hasn’t been thoroughly renovated since a restaurant moved off the premises.

“This used to be a hot dog place called What’s Up Dog and my place was in the basement,” says Pierre Werner, Dr. Reefer himself. “When What’s Up Dog closed, I moved in the very next day, and I’ve been open every day since.”

Mr. Werner, for the record, is not actually a doctor. Rather, as he puts it with a note of pride and defiance, he’s a “three-time convicted felon for possession of marijuana with intent to sell.” That history, as well as his habit of standing near the side of the road and waving a huge Dr. Reefer sign at passing cars while shouting “come get your meds,” makes other dispensary owners, not to mention some local politicians, wince.

After all, they’re trying to create respectability — maybe even some class — and Dr. Reefer’s not helping.

Here's a picture of Pierre Werner, aka "Dr. Reefer", smoking in his own establishment:

I mean, I have no problem with people like this as a general rule. However, their public antics and lack of presentability make it a lot harder for us in other states to get laws passed when nationally syndicated newspapers are running stories that include them. The article also mentions the Farmacy, which takes a much more (in my opinion) positive approach towards making an image that will continue to allow legislation to pass. Here's a picture:

27pot-chameleon600-custom4.jpg

I think it's maybe a little too sterile, but much more decoration and you're bound to alienate people. Why can't we just get these laws passed and then worry about all this bullshit? Anyways, y'all should read the NYT article whether you agree with me or not, because it's very indicative of the various points of view you'll find out there.

Finally, some of us would be better off moving to an island if we can't accept how un-American our country has become. We're a looooooooooong way away from where we started.

EDIT: And yes, I'd rather chill with Dr. Reefer than with the Farmacy's owner. But that's immaterial here, IMO we just need laws passed across the country. We need the legal right to use our medicine.
