Sounds like your head is in the right place in regards to this. If I was in your shoes I would be staying the course but keeping a very watchful eye on who and what is parked up and down my street. In all honesty it could have just been some cops lookin for a new hole; somewhere to drink coffee, eat donuts, etc.
If you see em again, or even different vehicles same M.O., I would call the police on them and report two suspicious vehicles or some kids up to no good or whatever you wanna say that you KNOW will bring the police in a timely fashion. If a police car comes by then odds are they aren't cops, or at least it probably isn't what ever agency responds. If, for whatever reason, no cops come or it takes an inordinate amount of time then you know something is a little off and you can go from there.
I really don't think any of the above will be necessary but as they say "hope for the best but prepare for the worst".
I wish you and yours all the best and a safe, merry Christmas.
