i remember my rusty old Karmann Ghia catching on fire every 5 or 6 times i started it. ah, the excitement of youth...
I'm in the process of selling my bike (13 roadglide) and start looking for a VW Thing... Karmann Ghias always appealed to me too. Always pictured owning a KG with Porsche 4 cyl in it...never did but did own a couple 4 cyl, 1969 and 1966, 912s.

And we had Detroit's version of the vee-dub, the rear engine Corvair. Now those babies always were catching fire.

Never owned one (did want to)--but I did once own a 1954 Hudson Jet...lol. Won it in a poker game.

The fuel line got whacked and the mechanical fuel pump could barely provide enough gas to the carb. So an electric fuel pump was attached and a few days later the fuel line became 100% clogged. OK...so what to do?

LOL...I ran a garden hose from the gas tank to the engine compartment and went on my way. Hey, it worked for a few months before and I sold it. On the Hudson Jet, the gas cap was at the rear of the car, near the trunk right above the bumper--thus making the garden hose nearly "invisible" from view.

:yeahthatsI remember when,.......

a sizable number of cars had the gas cap in the back (sometimes under the flip-down license plate)

It was perfect for those folks who could never seem to remember to pull up to the correct side of the gas pump.

yep old ford customlines. still wish the cap was there, keep forgetting, I don't like the bloody hose dragged across my smicko paint.

Circa mid late 70s .... security guard at drive in infuriated at not being able to bust me for how I brought booze into the drive in. Of course he was an off duty cop and just poured out my cups and kicked me out. Ran across him years later in nursing home and confessed that i filled windshield washer reservoir of the ole mustang with booze and re routed the discharge line to under dash to spike drive in purchased soft drinks. We both got a huge laugh out of it...aahh the good ole days:biggrin:

Learned to drive in a Karman Gia . First car was a 61 beetle bought for 80 bucks as a box of parts. Best value I ever found in life was a copy of John Muir's legendary repair manual.

Bought a Porsche instead..

Bought a Porsche instead..

I bought a 1972 914 for $5000 in 1977.
It ran like a bat out of hell. wrecked it
I learned too drive a stick when my sister bought an old bug and she didn't know how drive, I learned on the way home.

I've owned and raced a number of Porsches, love those boxer motors.

Never owned a Karman Ghia but I always wanted one

I remember thai sticks!

I remember when most of the pot around was seeded. People sold, bought and smoked leaf. Seedless pot was exotic.

Buying $30 "deals" about the size of a half ounce mixed buds, leaf and stem, pretty much branches folded in the bag.

My second car, a 68 dark green VW Beetle. Damn that was a fun car.

I remember when women had pubic hair and didn't wear bras.

Days before McDonalds, getting a real burger and milkshake.
:comfort:

Nope...So Cali (Orange County) area. Grew up in fabulous Long Beach area for the first dozen years of my life or so.

Yeah, KTLA and KTTV and KHJ (??? channel 9) were the kiddy channels. And all went off the air playing the national anthem. LOL, you would fall asleep watching some show and poof you would wake up with "da da da dah daaaah...." playing rather loud.
