HumboldtLocals Outdoor 2010

You should get a hold of them. I am really not sure about all the classes they will be running. I am sure they eventually will cover law. We have many MMJ lawyers and activists in this area. They are looking for more people that want to teach classes so if anyone reading has the knowledge and likes to teach, give them a call and see if you can get involved.

Man I wish that the old elite of politicians in this country(DK) would wake up and see the benefits of medical marijuana, but they're stucked with their beliefs that it leads to harder drugs period.:wallbash:
Until we get them kicked out we will have to do small scale guerlla-grows,and of course watch with envy, lol! on how it can be done.....thank U guys and Humboldt in particular.:thank you:

Hi HumboldtLocal! Just read through the whole thread, great to see how your outdoor is going this year. I followed both your 09 outdoor grow and twister threads, great job documenting your work and answering questions.

I hope this year is truly rewarding. I am subscribing to this one!

any idea if they are going to get into any of the business law stuff and dispensary operation guidelines that oaksterdam does in the advanced classes? I'm thinking about flying out to the bay to take those cause they aren't offered at the oaksterdam branch set up out here. but i'd love to support this new college, cause we know how long the triangle has been running shit. Oakland is late to the pot growing party.

I am no fan of Oaksterdam, but if you have the chance to take any legal courses taught by Kali Grech, you should go for it. She knows her stuff.

The rain keeps coming down with cycles of some pretty big hail at HumboldtLocal's gardens but the plants are nice and cozy under the hoops.
Over the next few days I'll be posting lots of pictures of what we've been up to here including info and descriptions of many of our strains. Stay tuned.

Hi everyone. Time for a little update. I spent a couple days in sacramento hanging with my collective, Fruitridge Health and Wellness Collective. http://www.fhwcc.org/ These guys are the model of what a compassionate collective is all about. While I was there they were giving away fresh produce and eggs to their patients and they also give away several lbs of medicine every month. They have a massage therapist that works on patients and they take care of vets and seniors as well. I have been so impressed with these guys and I am happy to grow for them. I had a lot of offers to grow for collectives and I was really moved by how these guys operate and the great reputation they have. If you are anywhere near Sac this is the place to be. They had a ton of great clones when I was down there if any one is looking for legit cuts. This winter I will be stocking that place with a lot of my genetics as well. I took in some of the sights while I was down there. Nomaad convinced me I needed to be posting larger pics so here they are.
This is where all the real crimes in Cali are committed.:)

The weather has been a little cold and rainy but the hoops are paying off. Well worth the extra effort. The girls don't seam to be missing a beat.
We will be applying for Clean Green Certification here real soon so I will let everyone know how that process goes. We need more Organic, healthy, pesticide, and chemical free meds in the collectives. Our patients deserve it.

Local, do you make your own cages?

Im new to the cage parts stuff so im not sure what they sell to make that kind of stuff..

Can you point in me the right direction?

These are called Texas Tomato Cages. They are burly. You can also get a two foot extension that goes on top. You can get them from Sparetime garden supply in Willits. They are pricey but will last a long time and they fold flat so you can store them easily. I mentioned before that a friend used these last year to cage 5 lb plants and didn't have to use anything else. He said if there was a branch that was really hanging out there he would tie green tape onto the branch and tie it back onto the cage.

HumboldtLocal's hoops are all about 8 feet wide. The pvc pipes are 20 foot pipes cut to size. The hoops with smart pots are a bit taller then plants directly in holes in the ground.
Bummer about your height problems, but having plants get to big sounds like a good problem to have.
I suppose you could rebuild your hoops and make then 6 feet wide instead of 8. That would give you some extra height when you bend the pvc and put the arches back up. GL

HumboldtLocal is a busy man. And he has given me the ok to document this season here, which is great because I pretty much only talk about growing cannabis and now Ms. Ganja D will finally get some peace and quiet.
We want to share our progress and what were up to from time to time, and I want to go over everything I know about growing I learned over the last 12+ years.
Here are a few pictures from earlier of some things about growing I consider very overlooked.
Plant structure:

The thick stalk is from one of HumboldtLocal's Mikado crosses. Very pretty plants with a very sturdy structure. Strong skunky sweet smell already and vigorous growth. we expect big things from these this year.
The other plant with the female pre flowers is one of HumboldtLocal's Hindu Kush blueberry x grapefruit/purple/blackberry crosses. This strain is beautiful herb and every side of it's spectrum is special. Well bred herb indeed.
Getting a plant big doesn't mean it's healthy or has ability to reach it's potential. A strong sturdy stalk and structure is extremely over looked by many growers and important in my opinion. I try to put the plants needs infront of my own in many ways to unsure they are as happy as can be.
Just smoked a joint of Sour Diesel, then one of OG Kush. You won't here me say it often, in this case the OG was better.

Now for fun pics. Here's a hoop a while ago after planting and what it looks like now. It's temporary housing for the rest of our unplanted ladies for now. You can't really see the planted ones in this picture.

Sorry if my post was a tad long, hope you enjoyed it. More info and updates with lots of pictures to follow.

25 feet long is probably not going to be sufficient spacing for 4x200 gallon smartpots...especially if they are already outgrowing the 8 foor hoops.

I'd recommend something more like 10 feet on center for most strains and 15 for anything with the qualities that will result in monsters. but 25 feet is about 6 foot spacing. you will get better yield by giving them more space.

If you need more height, just bang in new rebar that protrudes further from the ground... add a piece of PVC to your exiisitng tubes, pop it off the short rebar, put it on the longer one, a voila, you have a structurally sound extension on your hoops... theu might take a slightly funny shape, but it will solve your height problems.

Nice update Ganja D. Here are some pics of the Hindu Kush blueberry x grapefruit/purple/blackberry from last year. It is one of my best smokes and a strain I am very proud of. I can't wait to see what it can do in a big Smartie.

Our hoops are only 6-7 feet tall in the middle. We are in a little different situation than you. We want our plants to outgrow these hoops by a few feet at least. We will be taking the plastic off as soon as it is too hot for them to handle. June? July at the latest. We will be running trellis netting down the entire length of the hoop, two 4' pieces wide, to hold the plants up. Do you need your hoops covered in the fall? Bud tends to mold really bad in low hoops when it rains and gets humid. It is almost worse than having them uncovered and in the elements. Not enough air flow even with the ends uncovered. Something to think about. I don't mind my plants out in the rain as long as they are not laying in the mud and I can shake them off without them falling over. Nomaad also mentioned that your hoop is not very long for the plants you are packing in there. That would add to the lack of air flow if they are covered and could really lead to mold problemos.:comfort:

I found your views on moving to NorCal pretty interesting.

After a Ive watched few documentaries and done some research, I think a grower that's forced to grow indoor in a non medical state takes the same risk, if not less than an outdoor op like the one you have running.

I have family close to you, and i think id rather stay put. much respect to you tho.

Nice updates HL and Mr Ganja D, thats a tunnel of love there.

that blueberry hindu kush cross you have. would that be a purple pheno of hindu kush or is there such a thing as hindu kush blueberry? i have an hk i grew out from seed and kept the best most mold resistant, best growing smoking one but its basically purple. very very strong blueberry scent to it too man. Im just wondering if thats a common pheno of the hindu or what. ahh theyll prob ably rename it to gdp or something ridiculous at the club anyways.
