Yeah, don't get me wrong. There is always a wide political divide from the ends of the spectrum but my point is that a large part of the middle of the population is driven by jobs and a sense of security. If this wide range can feel that even a less than perfect system can move them to a middle class standard of living then there will be a natural blending of opposing poles to a more middle ground that promotes liberty and the ability to pursue their goals.
Full bellies and no fear makes a silent majority and politics become an academic exercise rather than a street sport.

Hugo's stealing from the middle won't make the poor middle class. It just makes a larger pool of dependent poor that rely on a soon to be failing State instead of a prosperous economy they can move up in.

The dumb bastard didn't realize he was using the US style of governance. Killing the economy to buy votes from the poor while backhanding money to his well heeled supporters.
The only difference is Chavez steals outright where the US does it through inflation, taxes and debt.

This always happens when the rule of law becomes a fiction.
