H&G coco question

H&G coco question

I already use with good success.
I use RO water and my mix always ends up around 5.8 every time without having to do any adjusting.

The other night i decided to mix a batch up with tap and see how they compared.
I mix 4 gallons at a time.
First I add my silica blast @1tsp/G, then my A, wait the 15 mins. then the B, then wait.
Now my ph is coming in @ 6.7, so I add a small amount of ph down, wait a bit, and test it.
Nothing, didn't budge.
Now normally the smallest amount of ph down goes a long way, so I started small.
I repeated adding and testing a few times only to realize that, no matter how much down I kept adding it would not go lower than around 6.4.

At this point I'm thinking there's way too much ph down in this mix.
I added the last two things to the mix per my usual system so i could test and see where my EC was at.
It came in @ 1.7 my usual mix ends up @ 1.2, and this is still with the incorrect ph.
So much ph down that when I let it sit for a bit I would see a film layer on top.

Well needless to say, I dumped this batch and didn't add it to my res.
My question I guess is
Why can't I get the ph in range with the tap?
Is it only meant for Ro water?
bump?

HG is not meant for tap water but it can work. Hard water has a strong buffer and you will find even when it gets into range the pH would shoot back up the next day if you let it sit.

I see what you're saying. Thanks for the answer Zigg.
I'm gonna stick with the RO , that was the first time I've tried my tap.
I do have hard water. It comes out the faucet .5 - .6 ec and very high ph.

Never had this problem somethign sounds horribly wrong with your tap water LOL. Using the sink or garden hose i get around 230ppm (700 scale). 10ml of A and B 10ml of cal mag and some hydroplex comes in right at about 6.3 add a little PH down and she drops no problem. I dont think i would be drinking your tap water anymore if you still do.. I will grab the EC of the mix tommorrow with the addition of MOAB since my meter just arrived yesterday

^^ I'll take a guess and say you're right around 3 EC..probably more.
You must have some top notch conditions to be pushing that. My room is a little too hot/dry to go that hard.

Lol it was right around 2.0ec haha ill be cutting a down each by a little more than a quarter to drop my ec right into 1.3 though the plants have loved that with a little more in their even.

You can run aqua flakes in coco, I've done it in a pinch. If you look at the labels they are identicle, that said I'm sure they are different somehow but if you add about 15m per gal of Cal mag plus you will be fine.

I love h and g and haven't looked back since I switched a few years back. I have finally gotten all the additives and with the exception of terpinator as well as mad farmers N.U.t.s fulvic acid and their silica, I use their line exclusively in basement mix and have wonderful results. The plants are so healthy it really amazes me. Not trying to. Sell their stuff but I guarantee you won't be disapointed . Start small and work your way up. Its easy to dial in different strains once you have the hang of the nutes. I dare say they are practically fool proof but I m sure some body has had bad experiences. I can see someone burning their plants by using to much. Like I said start small. Its power full stuff. Def müore cost effective than gh or any other mute line except maybe can a. I consider canna a 2nd best and hand g being the best. Imho

Love h&g aqua flakes,, but I hate the whole wait 15 minutes in between part a and part b... adds an extra hour to my mixing time for my setup..

never get why they say that? I just put A in first before i fill my rez so its mixing and then add B once its full. I dont have the time to wait around like that and i have noticed no difference when i did a side by side with a 2 gallon pot. That was good enough for me to say fuck that noise.

Anybody running aqua flakes in coco dtw?

I remember an H&G rep saying that Aqua Flakes is very similar to Cocos, the difference is that Aqua Flakes is designed to stay stable in a reservoir for long periods of time, like in a recirculating system, whereas the Cocos is recommended for DTW applications

I have used both Aqua Flakes and Cocos in recirc and DTW systems with coco as the medium and noticed no difference, but you might as well do what they recommend, use Cocos for DTW and Aqua Flakes for recirc. I have had great results with just A&B, no additives.

thats what i do too, no point in waiting.

I started off with coco and read that aqua
Was more stable and a few people switched
over to the flakes.

Right now I feed 250 ppm calimag and 7 ml
A&b might need to Bump up the base.

And she looks like this

what item in H & G is equivalent to pro tek's silicia? I liked it but dont like mixing different brands. any info?
GH has a new product called Armor Si, which is 10% silica, and only $15-ish a quart. Its a better value than Pro-Tek (7% or so), and a way better value than Botanicare's silica product that my friend uses (3.4% iirc, and $17-18 a quart).

And to add on that...

He insisting on using the Botanicare product because he's using their products as his main nutrient line. I got some cuts from him last month and mine all look way better than his, 2-3x as big and healthier looking. He thinks its the lights, I'm using a 250w MH, and using using about 220w of T5 HO. I'm pretty sure its a nutrient problem though, when I got the cuts the stems were all purple/red. His still are, while all the new growth on mine are 100% green. I haven't transplanted them either, he gave them to me in 1gl containers.

I'm actually using H&G Soil A&B in coco. Most plants are doing pretty well, a tad stretchy if anything. A few seem to have very slow node growth.
