I used H&G for the last 3 years and swore by it. Aqua flakes a&b, root excell, drip clean, bud xl,top booster, b'cuzz bloom stim, silica, mag-i-cal, sweet, B-1, M.O.A.B, and a few others. Honestly I got tired of spending 100$/week to feed, and taking a half hour to change my nutes. F that! I came across Heath Robinsons critical mass thread and saw his yield, no one on here gets close to what he yields. He uses Ionic grow/bloom and pk13/14, nothing to it and its 30$USD a gallon. So I got some and switched, I must say I see a huge improvement in root health, leaves are reachin and my room is looking better than it ever did with H&G. I loved H&G before Ionic, Ive tried AN also with horrid results using half strength of connisuer A&B.
No more messing with RO water, Ionic has grow/bloom for tap water. I fill up my 15 gallon res with tap water, dump in about 320ml of bloom, about 60ml for Ionic boost and wah lah I get a perfect PH of 5.8-6 every time. I could throw away my ph pen for this stuff. I will then add a few drops of superthrive, some sweet and thats it. Last for a week and when its low I add tap water. by the end of the week the PH is around 6.6 so I change it. I used to check EC,PH twice a day, now I can leave town for a few days and not have to worry. I dont know what to say besides why waste the money or the time?

Dude I would NEVER let my PH go to 6.6 for a day but that's just me.. I love H&G but I have a friend who was doing a side by side with Flora Nova w GH additives vs Aqua Flakes and the H&G line of additives BUT!!!! He said he had to cut the test short for reasons he couldn't believe. Apparently he said the table using H&G with the same strains ect got Powder Mold bad saying it was like the Flora Nova gave the other table a better immune system than the H&G which I found hard to believe cuz I've had nothing but gorgeous plants since I started using it. However I may do a Flora Nova run and report back but until then I'm a Aqua Flakes user all the way!

I used MOAB for week 5 instead of Top Booster and then hit them with Shooting Powder for week 6 and half of 7 then it's been a flush since...

I ran the whole line except for the shooting powder last time. I used gravity instead and had fantastic results. I have since acquired the shooting powder and will be launching it into my res in 5 more weeks. I will post the results as soon as the run is complete. Either way House and gardens the shit.

how do you guys feel about shooting powder? do you go full strength with it? I have a feeling it kind of fries out your nugs in the end if you go 2 packs per 25 gallons. and who uses algen extract? and how much of it do you use? any opinions?

I use the shooting powder at about 1/3 the strength that they recommend. The one time I used it at their recommended dosage, I did have a lot of burn. Regarding algen extract, I've not used it. However, their Magic Green is a great foliage feed for when I put my plants in the flower closet. I spray them down every other day for 3 applications at lights out. They love it.

I am now in the second week using the shooting powder at full strength and things are still looking good. There's a ton of nice new bud growth and the plants are OK, except they feel pretty dry, which I think was a result of the Bud XL which mimics a drought to signal to the plants that it's time to boost bud growth. But the buds look awesome! See my grow journal by clicking in my signature below.

I'm on my second run with h&g and I'm planning on getting some blumats. My question is. If I have a 20 gallon res and there's about 5 gallons left. Can I just top off the res with RO and add A then B to existing nutes? Is that going to make me res out of whack? How do you guys top off your reservoir?

I think you'd be fine. I'm sure there's some folks out there that would say to not do that, but some people are more anal than others. When I'm mixing a new batch of nutes and there's still a couple quarts in the bottom of the bucket, I usually just add 5 gallons on top of that and mix a new batch. I do smell the bucket and if it smells funky at all, I'll start from scratch, but I've never experienced that. You'll just have to do it a couple times and see how your plants react to it and go from there.. I think you'll be fine tho..

Maripan,

It's funny how you mentioned the buds feeling dry. I just chopped my first crop with h&g and the buds were dense as hell. When I put them to hang they felt super dry in four days. Same strain using 6/9 and they were hung for 7 days. They're in jars now and the hygrometer reads 72, but the buds feel super dry like there at 55 humidity. I chopped them in the dark and the medium(coco) was still pretty moist! Can anybody explain this or experienced the same thing?

Buds are waaayy frostier than 6/9 & koolbloom btw.

Thanks for clarifying that. I'm about to be a first time res user so I was a bit confused. Do you always just mix up 5 gallons at a time when you top off? Since I'm planning on using a bigger one(10-20) gallons. How am I going to tell how much water is left in the res and how much to put back in order to add the correct amount of nutes? Sorry fir the questions!

The reason I mix 5 gallons at a time is I hand water these days, so it's the size of my bucket. I'm a personal use grower that has limited space, so big reservoirs are not my thing. However, I am going to experiment with a recirculating reservoir system next year. I'll be employing some air-pots and experimenting with a few different mediums. Hope this helps.

That would be each. Their website used to have a real nice interactive nutrient calculator, but some whiz brain decided to do away with it. The do however have a downloadable pdf file that has a good chart that's easy to follow. The most important thing about mixing these nutes is to mix a and b into the water and let it stabilize and THEN adjust the pH. After the pH is where you need it, THEN you add the supplements. Follow the directions and you won't go wrong.

If I may MGK....

You add the "A".....and stir good. Then you add the "B".....stir good again. Now ph to whatever you need (5.8 or 6.3). Mix well. Now add your weekly additives.....stirring well in between each one.

This is good practice for mixing any nutrients. Most all nutes say, do not mix concentrates.

Well if you are mixing nutes in a 5 gallon bucket and you dump 5 different kinds of ferts in without stirring in between....you can still run the risk of fall out or changing the nutes slightly. Not what you wanna do. ;)

ive tried to ph after A and B but the other stuff just puts the ph way of, you just ignore the reeding of ph after all the nutrients are mixed???

I am finding that with 25ml each of CalMag, Coco A and B, the ppm is around 750, and the after adjusting pH to 5.8, then after adding 20ml of Bud-XL, and 26 grams of Shooting Powder to 5 gallons of Reverse Osmosis water, the PPM became 1255 and the pH was 6.00. That was this AM.

Now, 15 hours later, the 3.25 remaining gallons, which have had two air stones all day, are: PPM = 1234 and pH = 6.27.

BroughtSuperior-Yea u only ph the base nutes. Theres no need to ph again after that. And remember u want ur base nutes to be about 70% of ur final ppms. Except when using the shooting powder.

Im on my 4th week with H@G. Im using aquaflakes base , my medium is pro-mix that is unamended . Im not using RO water just tap that i bubble for 24 hours . The tap water has a 75 ppm out of the hose. I have been following the regular feeding chart for an 8 week plant . My last watering was on the week 3 schedule . I have been watering about 1 gallon , 2x a week for each plant at a ph of 5.8 . I have started to notice some brown spotting . Maybe cal/mg def?? SHould I add some of my botanicare cal/mg to the mix to? Or is something else going on here maybe?

I don't see how you would have a cal mag deficiency if you aren't even growing in coco? Do you have a crazy big root ball? I had similar problems and drooping but it was due to being underfed. I upped my ppms from 750 to 950 and they were happy again.

Looks like Ca def... First time with the strain and H@G so not sure whats going on . The root ball is prob fairly large . They are in 5 gal buckets and maybe 3-4 ft tall. No drooping of the leaves , they all are up and look good other then the brown spotting starting.
