I've had a door kicked in on me, and know people who've experienced the same. It is such a helpless feeling. I keep a few high caliber handguns around for general defense purposes, but honestly, if someone breaks in while you are there and gets the draw on you, it's not a good situation, and there isn't much you can do at that point.

My advice is to do what you can to prevent it. A well lit area is a good deterrent, and a large dog certainly is as well. Don't get pitbulls... Those things are responsible for a lot of animal and small child attacks. If you are growing at a house, then don't tell anyone, and keep a low profile. I also recommend using a very loud audible alarm. Most people run when they hear an alarm. I would only do this if your grow room is extremely stealth as it may attract attention. Operate your alarm system on a battery backup if possible.

If a thief is willing to break in while you are there, or is willing to brave an alarm, then i'd suspect he KNOWS you have something really valuable in there. Again... rule number one is keep a super low profile, this goes for growers and non growers alike..

Buy better doors and frames. Let them try to kick a metal security door disguised as a normal wooden door. Guarantee they don't kick it in. Get stronger locks and door frames/jambs and pack a little heat. Put your alarm system sign outside and make sure your windows are just as secure. Plant bushes in front of windows so they can't walk up to the windows. Oh and when someone does try to break in, shoot them. Thats one hell of a way to make sure they know they aren't getting your TV.

Bombadil, I am sorry to hear that. If it were my property the whole property would be secure, marked no trespassing, and booby trapped. I don't care if I come home to some rotting thief on my floor.
