Home Security Issue, Somewhat Serious

Hi all, been busy on the boards lately. Not necessarily in a good way unfortunately. This issue is more recent than any of my qualms about the PO Box. Please keep the comments constructive. Here goes.

I have recently had home improvement work done around and in my home. I had the HVAC system cleaned by one company. Carpets shampooed by another company. Windows replaced by another company. Finally, I had landscaping, concrete, patio work by another company.

For the last week I have had some gangbanger calling my house and asking for Luis. I am certain he is attmepting to call and create a schedule of when I am home and not home. He has been calling 2-3 times per day, saying nothing, or asking for Luis. I know its the same person because they keep using the same phone number. The number originates from a gang ridden area about 13-14 miles away. He called this morning at 5:00 AM, 8:30 AM, and finally 7:30 PM. He/they have called 2 times per day several other days last week, this week.

Talk about a nightmare coming to fruition. Luckily I have been on vacation the last week and have been home to receive their calls each time. I already have one dog, but he os only medium size. I am looking into getting a Doberman Pinscher or a German Shepard. I am also looking into getting a home security system ,and possibly set up some hidden cams around the home.

This is really kind of scaring me, because this person is not giving up when I tell them to quit calling/wrong number. It is becoming obvious they are looking to burglarize my home. I have several guns to protect myself as well. I will likely go to both local police, and police where the calls are originating from. How much help they will be I am not sure. I am running an additional Intellius search to gain additional information on the origin of the phone. However, I fear the phone may be stolen, because they are not even bothering to block the number when they call.

During all this work, ALL remnants of any grow have been long gone, and ALL equipment was stored FAR out of sight. I was home to supervise all activities while they were occuring.

Thank you for any advice/help with this problem.

Sounds like a prank call, someone is just screwing with you.

Maybe tell the caller that LUIS is there and act like you switch the phone over and say "Wuz up bro" in a spanish accent...see what he says? lol

If you really think someone is trying to figure out your schedule using your home phone, forward your home phone to your cell phone or use an answering machine for all incoming calls.

Definitely getting those calls forwarded to my cell phone.

I dont think its a prank call scenario, they have called about 20 times over the last 7-8 days.

Fair enough, he may not be a gangbanger. Given the area, and the fact he/they could potentially be part of a burglary ring, chnaces are good they have some gang ties. Plus some of the workers had gang tatoos on their hands/neck. I know the difference between gang tatoos and regular tatoos/body art. What was I suposed to do kick them off the job site? I'm willing to give folks the benefit of the doubt, maybe I should not, aye?

That's definitely a no on the PCP, nuthin but tree for me, brother. I gotta be honest, I dont appreciate the sarcasm either (dongle69). Sure it could be nothing, but it could be something.

i had my place broken into four times in a six month period. first time someone called my job, asked for me, and when i got to the phone they hung up. got home later and the house was trashed. i didn't grow at that time, but i had smoke around. be vigilant, and obviously keep the equipment out till it's all sorted. good luck and be safe.

get a large safe and lock all of your valuables up, anchor that bitch in.

make sure you have home insurance, with home robbery protection.

make sure you have receipts and documentation of all items in your home, especially items of value.

also, do you have a grow going on in that house right now?- if so, make sure its secure... im talkin not even a sledehammer or nice drill bit could get anyone into it...

also, get some wood to jam your windows - yeah they can break the windows, but they better break the whole damn window, or they are gonna get cut up.

make sure the locks on your door don't have a window near them that they can just break through then unlock the locks with their hands.

if you have a dog, leave dog shit allllllllll over the yard.... you want him to step in it... this will leave a track if someone breaks in and will be some extra evidence...

utilize timers.... yeah, timers can be used for many things other then controlling your grow lights.. hook up a TV, or perhaps a light to one, and have it go on and off every so often.

you have to safeguard yourself against shit like this, especially in this down economy - there are many many many people who are trying to eat, and will at anothers expense- especially with the holdays coming up...

safeguard yourself and DARE A MOTHERFUCKER to step where you lay your head at...

come on, nobody thinks it would be best to catch this fucker?! Set him up, pretend you are going to be gone home. Load your guns, and wait for him. It will be the biggest mistake he ever made. Stop being a coward, this is why this guy is going after you, he knows you are scared, they want the easiest catch they can get. Don't tell him to stop calling, make him want to stop calling! Turn the tables, scare the shit out of him. Heil Hitler or something....

The gang related workers sounds surefire as the most probable culprit here, or info
passed to a confederate. Yes, the phone calls at indiscriminate timimings do sound
like someone trying to isolate when someone is or is not at home. Get a caller ID
and abstain from answering your phone, then as mentioned above, set the caller
up, either with a wait and shoot, or a cop scenario.
OR you could answer your phone with an imitation of a detective with questions.

As soon as the culprit hears a voice of the LEO they will get scared off for sure.

Good luck and peace.

You want to be careful with home security systems. If you're not home and someone breaks in, the police will be all through your house when they get a report from the security company that there's been a break in.

No one will help you until something actually happened.
The only thing you can actually and effectively do is call your phone company and tell them about harassing calls and see what they can do for you.

On a side note I read your other post(s) about ordering seeds...and - no offense please - I think you got more problems than just the one described here.
But as I said no offense so I am not even going to go deeper in to that.

Good luck though, with everything!

I know its the same person because they keep using the same phone number. The number originates from a gang ridden area about 13-14 miles away.

Have you aready done a reverse look up?? Call 411, give them the number, then they will give you the address--
Next time the guy calls...read him his addy...that might give him reason to stop--
Or you can contact your phone company, and have them block calls from that number--

Strainhunter I appreciate your advice and experience. My two threads are independent of one another. The issues of obtaining seeds discretely are far different than my home security issues. I dont HAVE to order seeds, I WANT to. I HAD to have home improvement work done. Unfortunately, I have one of the nicest homes in the neighborhood. I have very nice things inside my home, and could not hide them all when the work was being done.

Absolutely no bud growing, only veggies. Has not been anything of consequence growing since June. No security leaks. Thus, my hesitation to order beans, because it is a security risk in itself.

There is little doubt in my mind that this is related to the work being done in my home. It is just too coincidental that it would start now.

Video cameras outside of your home do wonders to deter crooks & break-ins.
