I just finished up a soil batch yesterday and used the MG Organic as a part and I think it will work just fine being ammended with 2 higher quality soils (FFOC and HP) as well as further individual ammendments (silica, bone meal, sand, etc...) I don't have anything planted in it yet so I'll have to wait to see actual results.

local hydro sells 4 different Promixs'; $45 each for 3c.f. :yoinks:

mushroom compost works great too but for some reason it's not very reliably found around here. With soo many other soils, mixs and options that are available here it's hard to justify shipping a bag of it.

I would watch adding other ammendments, MG organic seems plenty hot already.

Ok, here's how my mix goes:

1/2 bag MG Organic soil mix (not potting mix)
1/2 bag FF Ocean Forest
1/2 bag Happy Frog
6qts Acrillite
3qts sand
6qts well composted peat
4 qts crushed silica rock
8 qts "chunky" Orchid mix (bark, chunky perlite, chunky charcoal)

I decided to skip the bonemeal for now but this will all be tilled into a plot and allowed to sit for 3-4 weeks before being planted into.

I have extremely clay soil, you can litterally wash the dirt out and use like art clay. I don't like Gypsum and this kind of mix works well for me for a few different crops (strawberries, peppers, tomatos). The only thing different is the addition of the MG Organic which I don't think will be any big deal when its mix into an outdoor plot.

I found this soil at my local nursery called master nursery gardeners gold organic potting soil. It costs about 10.00 for 2 cubic feet and i just finished my first crop. Its great stuff and I would never use any other bagged soil again. Seedlings and small plants i cut with 50 percent promix and perlite but as they get bigger I use just perlite and the soil full strength. I veged my last plants for 2 months and flowered for 2 more and never had a defeciency. I am actually reusing the soil now for my clones and they are doing well also.
Its hard to find but if you see it around you should check it out.

here is a description:

All natural rich blend of Fir bark fines, forest humus, sphagnum peat moss, perlite, worm castings chicken manure, bat guano, kelp meal and pH balanced to 6.5 with oyster shell and dolomites limes. For use in all indoor/outdoor potting containers and raised bed applications.

i've never liked using chix manure or any medium with chix manure for anything but acid loving plants(rhodes, azaelas, evergreens). just too strong fer my liking.

ummmmmmmmmmm why is some of you have good results with the potting soil with nouting else added to it . i had 6 oz dixie cups for my starts and they did good for only a week before they started truning yellow, when i mix up a batch of mg and cow manure perlite and blood and bone meal and lime they finaly started doing good. not shure if my home depot sells seconds or not but my mg ornaic had bark and sticks all in it. and with noting added to it other than perlite, only work for a week before i had problems with it. sad part is in this town mg is all they sell home depot dont sell any thing else and your doing good if they have it in stock most of the time there sold out kmart and wal mart same thing i could make a trip to my nearest hyrdo store 30 miles a way but there a dam joke there hardy every open i even call once and told them i was coming and i got there they was closed and there the only one in this area that carry FF worm casting and bat guno but thats cost to much money and to much time to get there if there open.

i have to say the bags are pretty inconsistent. i picked up two bags yesterday, the first one i open looked awesome; black fine organic matter that just looked killer. the second bag was clumpy and kinda resembled the "free mulch" piles you see at the dump. i tossed that bag needless to say. i wish that shit was more consistent.

stevr59- sorry i missed your q, i havent popped in here in awhile. everything you added is what i do except i put in humus as well. did you use the new mg blood and bone meal? i havent tried it yet but am curious. i never measure the amounts, i just put in what looks right. i think i have it down by now.

DON'T BUY MIRACLE GROW ORGANIC!

I never use caps online, but I can't emphasize that enough.

DON'T BUY MIRACLE GROW ORGANIC!

I bought this shit and started my kali mist seeds in it, with 33% perlite, in 8" pots(not sure on volume, close to 1 gallon). I only did this because the one hydro store in my area(that has fox farm) was out of the way and I thought that this MG organic would be fine for starting the plants out, how WRONG was I!!

This SHIT(I take that back, shit would probably treat my plants better than this stuff) turned my plants yellow after only their first set of true leaves! They COMPLETELY stopped growing and turned yellow less than a week after sprouting. I had to dig out the main rootball and put it in some FF Ocean Forest and pray that they would pull through. They stayed yellow for like 3 more days, and then they turned green and took off like a rocket, and they have never looked healthier.

Praise Fox Farm Ocean Forest!

FUCK Miracle Grow Organic!

Any potting soil that you buy in California has so much forest product in it as to render it useless without amendments. I can fill a 5 gal pot and pour 2 gal of water on it and dig down to the center and it is dry. The water just runs off the forest product. There is no dirt in there. Years ago, when I lived in Indiana, I could buy a bag of garden soil that was the richest black dirt that you ever saw and was only $1.50 a bag. I hate this shit in Cali.

Currently, I use 40% Kellogg's Patio Plus, 25% composted cow manure, 25% perlite and 10% worm castings, with some added dolomite and kelp meal. I don't think So.Cal. has any real dirt. Kellog's contains composted forest products, canadian peat moss, composted chicken manure, rice hulls, horticultural sand, perlite, bat guano, kelp meal and worm castings. A bag(1 1/2 cf or 42 liters) cost about $4.95. It says that it is guaranteed weed and pest free, but count on a few fungus gnats.

well i know i will never use that crap again it has killed every type of plant i put in it with and with out amends in it. you be better off growing in beach sand.

I used MG organic during veg for my current grow, they progressed really slowly and never got any kind of deep, rich color. They looked healthy for the most part, but the growth was completely without vigor.

I use the miracle grow organic potting mix and just add perlite for drainage. Not sure why you peeps are having all these problems. The first sign of yellowing on my plants and i start feeding em. This stuff gives me the same exact results as using the dif fox farm soils. I guess the best advice is use what works for ya. Peace and *bong* :friends:

I'm not sure why, either... but I used MG Organic for a grow a couple years ago and the plants were not happy. I added about 30% perlite because I could tell the soil texture wasn't that great.

My first hunch would be a simple matter of quality control... variance depending on which bag you happened to grab off the shelf.

A little hot on the N Steve.

Ok lets stop with the MG stuff. Tell us exactly where you are (in veg). Update us with pics of the plants and your time frame. Give me a list of ingredients that you have access to and I will give you a soil mixture that your plants will thrive in.

Take that store bought, bark filled soil and use it in your yard for mulch.

Get back with me today.

does home depot, or any national stores have huge( like 50 lb) bags of organic top soil. if i bought top soil and added peat moss, perlite would'nt just be like a stoe bought garden soil . i want to buy huge discount bags of top soil, peat moss, and perlite. what are some locations u guys suggest for discounts on bulk like these.
