A little garden update.

The weather remains good. We had some heavy rain a week or so ago but not as stormy as they had predicted, so in hindsight the Zacateca T could have been left longer, but that's cool.

So first up is the Golden Tiger.

She took forever to start to flower, but is really going for it now.

Much better plant than last year.

She's had virtually no extra food other than a little bat guano and the amended soil she was started in and seems so much better for it.

Another update from the garden.

Well, the weather remains lovely, predominately sunny and somewhere between 28-32c. The nights are going down to the mid teens.

Only a week ago I gave all the girls a spraying of Bacillus thuringiensis, so when I went out early yesterday morning I was shocked to find 8 caterpillars on the Mulanje. x Malawi/Ethiopian. I found one on both the Golden Tiger and the Zamal x Tom Hill Haze as well.
As it was overcast yesterday I went out later in the day and found another 22 from the M x M/E!

When I last sprayed them I was nearly out of BT and made a slightly weaker solution; Also my pressure sprayer is not the best and produces more of a shower than a mist. As it just so happened, at the weekend just gone, I had ordered a better quality sprayer and a 250ml bottle of BT from an online grow shop; they arrived yesterday morning. (My nearest grow shop is 45mins drive through the mountains and only sells 30ml bottles for 8euros; the online shop sells 250 mls for 27euros and saves me a load of petrol too).

Yesterday evening I gave them a full strength dose with the new pressure sprayer. I added a little dribble of dish soap (Potassium soap is not advised with BT).
Wow! The new sprayer really penetrated the buds and soaked both side of the leaves really well; After an hour everything was perfectly dry again. Nice.

Photos.

Golden Tiger doing really well with virtually no food at all. 5 days ago she had a weak dose of Organic PK and will get another this weekend. She's starting to smell a little now, not strong but if you get close up there's a pineapple smell.

Next up is the Mulanje x Malawi/Ethiopian.

Unfortunately she's been a bit under fed but I'd sooner that than my usual trick of over feeding.

Of all the girl's that are flowering, she smells the most exciting at the moment. Mint and something else, very sweet.

I don't know if using soap of any kind will help you with the BT. Unless I am mistaken, all soap should kill bacteria. Also, spraying BT does not guarantee you won't find any more caterpillars. BT only works well with very young caterpillars, and you have to take into account that the day you spray there might be eggs as well. The new caterpillars coming out from these eggs won't be affected by the BT. So they will need a second spraying after 4-5 days.

The bigger caterpillars don't usually die either. BT affects their digestive system and in many cases this just means they will stop eating, but not really die. So you can find many inactive caterpillars that are not tunnelling the buds bud rather just hanging over them. If they have been affected by BT you should also see them mostly inactive and barely reacting to you picking them with the pliers. Probably feeling like shit from eating buds covered with BT.

In any case, finding the first caterpillars means having to manually pick them every 1-2 days for the rest of the duration of the grow, until harvest, BT or no BT. At least where I live.

@revegeta666 ,that makes a lot of sense.

I'm using a little dish soap.

Most of the caterpillars were quite small, thankfully ad it seems that they prefer the Mulanje x Malawi/Ethiopian.

I'll be out just after first light in the morning from now!

Thanks

Here's a few pictures taken first thing this morning when I was out checking for caterpillars. (I found 6, all on the M x M/E, but they were not very responsive so I'm thinking that they have ingested the BT and are were on their way out)
