A turntable and an AKAI MPC

So MPCs were out in the early 90s?

That would make sense. I dont think God himself could make produce Mecca and Soul Brother with just a turntable and a multitrack recorder. :joint:

Wow, cool thread. I started a hip hoppish thread awhile back, it was about songs that mentioned strain names. This was way back when, I cant even find the thread anymore.

I started listening to rap during the 'golden age' you could say, when i was younger the bus driver used to always put on hot 97 on the bus, which let me hear all the classic dre, snoop, wu tang, everything. I remember specifically waiting for doggystyle to come out when I was in 3rd grade, haha I didnt even know what half the lyrics meant but I was still drawn to it for whatever reason.

Nowdays I really am with everybody else in that there is basically 0 good rap coming out. I'm gonna catch a lot of shit for saying this, but 50 Cent was the last hope, and now even he is putting out loads of garbage. But let me say this, does anybody else in NY remember when 50 was the fucking man? I am a big internet downloader, since way back when mp3s were obscure, napster 1.0 style, I downloaded the full version of Power of the Dollar that was never released and absolutely loved it. I could only find a song here or there every few years by 50 after that until 2002 when Guess Whos Back came out. Then he just blew way up until now he is the king of thug pop. How disheartning.

I would have loved to write more but I gotta run, Ill leave with a little something for you guys. Heres the Pete Rock and CL Smooth track.

its funny because it was while listening to that very song that I started wondering how on earth people could get down on a track like that back then before the days of computers.

what up peeps?

huge hip hop/rap fan here too.

mainly stuff like em', 2pac, wu, dre, ...etc....

I disagree that there is no good rap out these days...and if 50cent was the last hope than we are in trouble.

I'd say there is not much good mainstream rap, but there isnt much good mainstream music in general....never really was.

u gotta scratch the surface and look at some underground stuff to get to the heart of hip hop.

I saw an INCREDIBLE underground rap act in seattle called "MILITIA"...they are hardcore, gangster, rastas (basicly hardcore rap over real heavy reggae beats) ...I had never heard anything like it, and I am trying my ass off to find them on the internet to download sum shit.

there was only about 30 people in the small club, but the vibe was off the hook...I'm sure they will blow up one day.

holler if you can help me find info on these guys...its been almost a year since I saw them tho.

i like tupac, dr dre, eminem, bone thugs, biggie, lil wayne, canibus, jayz, mobb deep, nas, immortal technique, the game, talib kweli, yukmouth, brotha lynch, wu tang, chamillionaire n some others that i cant think of rite now. my cd collection is small, gonna have 2 cop some mo' when i got the $$

I've heard of this... one of my buddies told me about them. Next time I talk to him I will ask him if he knows where to find it. There's a lot of great NW hip hop. I'm actually going to be recording my own demo soon... all my own beats and words that I take much pride in. I hope when that happens I can find a way to share without breaching my security. I have some rough shit right now, but... blahhh.

It's nice to see that people share similar interests. For some reason I never really got the vibe that anyone listened to a lot of rap here :pointlaug

Eminem has been in my CD player since I was 11 years old. Dre, Snoop... all the obvious. Lil wyte and three-six, as well as other artists on Hypnotize Mindz. Immortal Technique is fucking sick. The new Ice Cube is pretty good, if anyone hasn't heard it yet. Obie... JMT... Xzibit.. Jeezy. I love all rap pretty much. Has anyone heard Danger Mouse and Jemini? I've only met a few people who were down. It's probably mentioned in this thread but I don't feel like searching.

YOUR WORDS ARE SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!

If you aint seen these lyrics , just read. Aquemini

If you aint seen these lyrics , just read. Aquemini

[Hook]
Even the sun goes down heroes eventually die
Horoscopes often lie and sometimes "y"
nothin' is for sure nothin' is for certain nothin' lasts forever
But until they close the curtain
it's him & I Aquemini

[Big Boi]
Now is the time to get on like Spike Lee said
get on the bus go get your work
and keep your beeper chirpin' is a must
Is you on that dust or cornstarch
familiar with that smack man
The music is like that green stuff
provided to you by sack man
Pac man how in the fuck do you think we gon' do that man?
Ridin' round Old National on 18's without no gat man
I'm strapped man & ready to bust on any nigga like that man
Me & my nigga we roll together like Batman & Robin
we prayed together through hard times
and swung hard when it was fitting
But now we tappin' the brakes from all them corners
that we be bending in Volkswagens & Bonnevilles
Chevrolets and Coupe De Villes
If you ain't got no rims nigga don't get no wood grain
steering wheel for real you can go on chill out & still build
let your paper stack instead of going into overkill
pay ya fuckin beeper bill bitch

[Hook]

[Dre]
Twice upon a time there was a boy who died twice
and lived happily ever after but that's another chapter
live from home of the brave with dirty dollars
& beauty parlors & baby bottles & bowling ball Impalas
& street scholars that's majoring in culinary arts
You know how to work bread cheese & dough
from scratch but see the catch is you can get caught
Know what ya sellin' what ya bought so cut that big talk
Let's walk to the bridge now meet me halfway
now you may see some children dead off in the pathway
it's them poor babies walkin' slowly to the candy lady
It's lookin' bad need some hope
like the words maybe, if, or probably more than a hobby
when my turntables get wobbly they don't fall
I'm sorry y'all I often drift I'm talkin' gift
so when it comes you never look the horse inside it's grill
of course you know I feel like the bearer of bad news
Don't want to be it but it's needed so what have you
Now question is every nigga with dreads for the cause?
Is every nigga with golds for the fall? Naw
So don't get caught in appearance
it's Outkast Aquemini another Black experience Okay

[Hook]

[Big Boi]
The name is Big Boi Daddy Fat Sax
the nigga that like them Cadillacs
I stay down with these streets
'cause these streets is where my folks at
Better know that some say we pro-black boy we professional
we missed a lot of church so the music is our confessional
Get off the testicles & the nut sacks
you bust a rhyme we bust back
Get get back for real niggas that's out here tryin' to spit facts
You hear dat can't come near dat maybe you need to quit
because Aquemini is Aquarius & Gemini runnin' shit like this
Yea yea yea yea

[Dre]
My mind warps and bends floats the wind count to ten
meet the twin Andre Ben. welcome to the lion's den
original skin many men comprehend
I extend myself so you go out & tell a friend
Sin all depends on what you believing in
Faith is what you make it that's the hardest shit since MC Ren
Alien can blend right on in wit' yo' kin
look again 'cause I swear I spot one every now & then
It's happenin' again wish I could tell you when
Andre this is Andre y'all just gon' have to make amends

[Hook]

PS : also when Andres into in return of the gangsta is amazing , real talk

Who can forget...

With so much drama in the LBC
it's kinda hard bein' Snoop D O double G
But I somehow, some way,
keep comin' up with funky-ass shit like every single day
May I kick a little somethin' for the G's and make a few billions as I
breeze through Two in the mornin' and the party's still jumpin' 'cause my mama ain't home.

I got bitches in the livin' room gettin' it on
And they Ain't leavin' till 6 in the morn'
So whatcha wanna do? Shit...
I got a pocket full of rubbers and my home boys do too
So turn off the lights and close the door
But for what--we don't love you hoes
Yeahhh so we gonna smoke an ounce to this
G's up hoes down while ya motherfuckas bounce to this.

Rollin' down the street smokin' endo sippin' on gin n juice
Laid back--with my mind on my money and my money on my mind

Rollin' down the street smokin' endo sippin' on gin n juice
Laid back--with my mind on my money and my money on my mind

Now that I got me some Seagram's gin
Everybody's got their cup but the ain't chipped in
Now this types of shit happens all the time
You gotta get yours before I gotta get mine
Everything is fine when you're listening to the D O G
I got to cultivate the music that be captivating me
Who listens to the words that I speak
As I take me a drink to the middle of the street

And mackin' this bitch named Sadies
She used to be the home boys' lady
(ah that bitch)
80 degress when I tell that bitch please
At ease
As I rhyme with the dog pound feel the breeze
bizach
As I'm

Rollin' down the street smokin' endo sippin' on gin n juice
Laid back--with my mind on my money and my money on my mind

Rollin' down the street smokin' endo sippin' on gin n juice
Laid back--with my mind on my money and my money on my mind

Later on that day my homey Dr. Dre came through with a gang
And a fat-ass J of some bubonic chronic that made me choke
Shit--this ain't no dope-- I have to back up off of it and sit my cup
down
chronic, yeah I'm fucked up now
But it ain't no stoppin'
I'm still droppin'
Dre gots the bitchs from the city of Compton
To serve me--not with a cherry on top
'Cause when I bust my nut

Don't get upset girl that's just how it goes
I don't love you hoes--now out the door
And I'll be...

Rollin' down the street smokin' endo sippin' on gin n juice
Laid back--with my mind on my money and my money on my mind

Rollin' down the street smokin' endo sippin' on gin n juice
Laid back--with my mind on my money and my money on my mind

i dont listen to new hip hop. Its too watered down and commercial. Eminem proves that hip hop today is a joke. Last rap CD i purchaed was Shyne . One of the realest rappers out there. Most artist today have turned into what media wants them to be or get a gimmick to sell records. Even Outkast is nothing like they used to be. Once they released Stankonia it was a downward spiral.

yea what the fuck happened to the 'kast. they fell off their gansta ways, and they just sound fruity now. they set a standard with aquemini and atliens that can't be matched.
