Despite Dutch police actions at expo, annual HIGH TIMES Cannabis Cup will continue

According to representatives for HIGH TIMES magazine, sponsors of the 24th Annual Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, the event will continue tonight with a scheduled concert at the Melkweg concert hall (Lijnbaansgracht 234), followed by a full day of the expo (including voting) at the Borchland (Borchlandweg) on Thursday, the final day of the competition. An additional voting station will be set up starting at 2PM on Thursday at the Melkweg, which will remain open until the beginning of the official Cannabis Cup awards ceremony at 8PM.

Organizers say that their interactions with Dutch law enforcement started over a misunderstanding about a permit application filed by the venue to host the event, a situation that lead to a clearing of the expo by law enforcement. The misunderstanding has since been resolved.

No attendees were arrested and attendees are not the targets of the police presence. Police entered the expo to ensure that all vendors were in compliance with tax laws and a 500 gram limit for cannabis that’s enforced in the Netherlands. Only one vendor has been identified as potentially over the limit, and if so, only slightly. Continue to check http://hightimes.com for the latest coverage of this ongoing global ganja event!

wow check this out from wiki about the opium law used to regulate all drugs in Holland.

Opium Law
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Opium Law (or Opiumwet in Dutch) is the section of the Dutch law which covers nearly all psychotropic drugs. All non-psychotropic, but prescription-only drugs are covered by the Medicine Act.

[edit] Origin and history

In 1912, the First International Opium Conference took place in The Hague, where agreements were made about the trade in opium; this initiated the introduction of the Opium Law, which took place 7 years later. In 1919, the first Opium Law (later known as List I of the Opium Law) was introduced, and on 12 May 1928 the second Opium Law (later known as List II of the Opium Law) was introduced. The first Opium Law was created to regulate drugs with a high addiction or abuse factor, or that are physically harmful. As the name indicates the main reason for introduction was to regulate the Opium trade and later to control various other addictive drugs like morphine, cocaine, heroin, barbiturates, amphetamines and several decades later, benzodiazepines, which were used both medically and recreationally.

Except for the addition of new drugs to List I and II of the Opium Law, the Opium Law remained unchanged until 1976. After the rise of a new youth culture which revolved much around the use of drugs like cannabis and LSD, and with hashish being openly used, a change of law was needed by the government, to properly control all drugs, but with a clear definition between drugs with an unacceptable degree of addictiveness or physical harm (known as hard drugs), and drugs with an acceptable degree of addictiveness or physical harm (known as soft drugs). In 1976 these changes officially took effect, and the Opium Law was edited to include the new changes of law. In the same year, a decision was also made by the Dutch government not to prosecute cannabis and hashish dealers, under the condition that they didn't sell hard drugs, didn't advertise and they were only allowed to carry a certain amount of cannabis or hashish.

In 1980, the decision to not prosecute cannabis and hashish dealers, under certain conditions, was publicly announced by the Dutch government. Many people thereby concluded that this decision would also allow the sale in coffeeshops, and coffeeshops began selling cannabis and hashish. This led to an enormous rise in the number of coffeeshops in the 80's and 90's, and because of this, new regulations were demanded by the government to regulate the sale of cannabis products by coffeeshops. In 1996 the laws were changed again to include new regulations for coffeeshops. The terms coffeeshops had to follow were:

No advertisement
No hard drugs
No entrance to coffeeshops by persons under the age of 18
No sale of more than 5 grams of cannabis products per person, per day
Coffeeshops are not allowed to have more than 500 grams of cannabis in stock at any time

Since 1996, no new changes have been made to the Opium Law. New guidelines for coffeeshops have been made, but they are not covered by the Opium Law.[1]

But in October 2011 the Dutch government proposed a change of the Opium law to the Dutch parliament. From spring 2012 will the change put cannabis with 15% THC or more onto List II; sale will be prohibited also in coffeshops. [2]

its' not illegal to smoke so that's why they let them smoke while being searched. It's illegal for individuals to have over 5 grams. Only licensed coffee shops can sell bud or hash; and that is a 5 gram sale limit per customer and no more than 500 grams on premises. The vendors can only sell seeds at the expo as long as they have the correct permits.

fuck amsterdam!

arrived yesterday, after 1 h on the cup it was over. they took away my weed.

and when the policeman searched my pockets, he asked where i am from. i said germany and he began to speak german and his german was good enough to understand what i mean, when i asked:

what happend to netherland football last week?

he had a smile on his face when i was going.

milla, i heard, was arrested only for a few hours. she had 100 g plantmaterial for demonstration.
she asked: why she was not not arrested a few weeks ago, when she was at the tv, there it was even more.

thanks to hash king rene, the ak 47 hash was a perfect smoke.

so i´m home again. my weed is even better than the stuff they sell in the coffeeshop.

how is this same as usual?? America dominated the cup this year. Cali Connection won a ton of cups and best sativa went not to some version of SSH, but Moonshine Haze from Rare Dankness, a Colorado seed company founded by a longtime member of our online community.

Congrats Moonshine, I'll always remember being there to share this special thanksgiving with you.

even before the end of the cup, talking to a lot european breeders, they knew they needed to get american genes over here.

after the ceremony tonight coffee shop owners were overheard pondering outlloud how the fuck they were gonna get all theese genes in their shops by next year.

I guess the locals will get to enjoy the new genetics from the US. If there new law goes into effect People from the USA wont be allowed in there coffee shops any longer..

I think we should hold a cannabis cup. Hopefully in 2012 some new laws will be on the books..
