Returned that bad soil. Went to another shop today. Told the guy about my issues and what I had found out. He had been having the exact same issues. He allowed me and was very happy to let me test all of the soils they had for the actual ph. Ended up going with the one I figured I was going to. Needless to say, he is changing as well. Half tempted to put up a thread about it in the soil forum for those who haven't figured out the problem yet, because he hadn't and he owns a shop.

i save all the rosin wafers up in a jar and then do an ethanol extraction when i have a bunch. it's great for edibles and topicals!

thanks drek!

these latest bud shots are all from my iphone 5s with a single shop light! no filters or editing. i'm very pleased with how they're coming out. i seem to have figured out a formula for taking a decent cured bud shot, which has always been the weakest link with my canna photography.

anyway, i spent my closet growing years perfecting the simon's cure method, so that's my baseline.

i came across justplaingill's freezer cure thread earlier this year and that was a game changer! before trying it myself i'd have been the first person to tell you you're crazy to put fresh bud in the freezer, but that shit works AMAZINGLY. i highly recommend testing it out for yourself. i started with a couple ounces to test it out, not my entire harvest by any means. i ended up preferring the freezer cure! we did most of the first round of harvests this way until we filled up the freezer.

unfortunately the auto defrost feature seems to be integral to the freezer cure, but it's nearly impossible to find a stand alone freezer that's frost free!

luckily when we ran out of space in the freezer we also had gotten our environment pretty dialed. the CTOG, cody, and the CBDB's were all dried and cured "on the vine" in a 72*F, 65% rH environment for a month before being trimmed and jarred.

gotta say that it's pretty uniquely exquisite, the smoke from these vine cured plants. when i'm able to build a super professional commercial garden one day, i'll include an entire room for curing with very tight environmental control, and hang dry and cure whole plants for the best quality cure possible.

these gg4 x fbpk girls grew up pretty neglected but they still delivered some gorgeous flowers!

part of the reason i've been slacking on my posts is we had a rough august with me being away from the garden way too much, and the heat, and a visit from some two spotted spider mites. i had to fully trash two plants well into flower during the worst of it.

one good thing about growing such variety is the mites devoured their favorite plants while leaving the rest nearly untouched.

for the barely touched ones i stripped any damaged areas and left the rest to soldier on.

we got back on a responsible foliar regimen rotating neem and lavender oils, using ag-sil to emulsify and a bit of fulvic cause why not. i top dressed the containers with my kick ass home made worm castings, neem cake, and comfrey leaf, and put a mulch back on them. there was almost an immediate improvement in overall health. i shouldn't have procrastinated on that mulch as long as i did.

i also brewed them up some compost tea to get the top dressing and mulch moving.

oh and we put out 50k swirskii.

i redesigned the blumat reservoir for constant pressure so in the meantime we've been hand watering, adding various combinations of ag-sil, coconut, aloe, yucca, and fulvic depending on my mood. i've also done one or two waterings with a dash of nettle FPE for my vegging plants. they finally look radiant again!

our already struggling clone game obviously suffered during the neglect, so i've gone back to basics. i got a four shelf unit with a zippered cloche and installed some t5's and heating mats. i've got root riots (tree bark) and rockwool (yuck) plugs side by side, soaked them in aloe, silica, and fulvic. pray for roots for us!

also took the opportunity to plant a few new beans during that crazy blood moon eclipse.

Heady man I don't think we talked about what you use as a hormone for rooting if any? Line cure and bark plugs ftw! Next time we chill we need to do the seed swap thing. Not sure why we haven't all ready. I might be up for the ball, I know I said I was to broke but maybe. Weather seems to be looking better than I had thought. I feel for the OD guys! This rain gave em a pummeling!!!

Kanthal has never looked so good.

Kanthal has never looked so good.

Hey HB

In regards to your vape pen, do you ever try different kind of coils? I've been using a vape for nic for about 3 years now. I've made about 1k coils in that time, became a hobby for a while. I'm not really sure what kind of heat is needed for extracts, but if I had to guess, your coils are at about ~.8- 1.1Ω for roughly 17.5-22 watts on a full charge. Assuming its 20-22g wire at a 7/8 wrap, and based on a pic (i could be totally wrong just guessing)....It also looks like you have a 22mm piece. Is it a mechanical, or a regulated mod? Personally I prefer a big ass single macro coil. Normally around 1-1.5Ω with 22 or 24 gague wire set at 40 watts or about 5-6volts. A good youtuber for wire guides is riptrippers, hes also on instagram. Look for 1 called the Clapton coil. It was a hell of a challenge, and a waste imo, but fun to make. Anywho, have a good one.

thanks for the kind words folks!

i've been using a big .3 ohm 22g nichrome80 single coil in my doge rda for like 3 months but i finally decided i wanted more surface area for bigger dabs so i built the last one i posted.

turns out the kanthal tastes shitty now that i've gotten used to the nichrome, so that's a bummer. i went to get more nichrome and the guy at the vape shop just sold me on this new "anarchist" wire i'm gonna twist up tonight or tomorrow. i almost walked out with a box mod lol!

i think ideally i'd get the coil to the same temps i like my nail at, so in the 6--700*F range. i've been keeping my coils between .3 and .5 ohm so they get real hot real fast.

my ideal upgrade would be a big ass box mod like the segeli 150w with the variable temp control and everything.

i also wanna try this ejmix i've been hearing about. apparently it's formulated to keep canna concentrates in solution. i don't drip at all but the idea of a full cart for situations like concerts or family events does seem very attractive. i don't mind loading dab by dab in most situations, especially if i can fit a huge one, but it can be awkward at times.

just made this twist at the same time as that last spaced dual, only to discover kanthal tastes poo. gonna repeat it with the new wire cause it actually holds a ton more oil than a similar untwisted coil!

i've decided i'm done with rooting hormone.

obviously that doesn't seem to have paid off, but i'd blame environmental factors before lack of synthetic rooting aids in my situation.

right now i'm doing aloe, silica, and fulvic.

An interesting technique I have dabbled with is using aloe pomice, don't think that is the correct terminology. Basically cut off a blade from live aloe, and use the soft gooey insides like cloning gel. Just dip it right in the cut off part. There is always willow water as well, its been said to root a Popsicle stick! And azos can be used as a root inducer.
