Update 8/5
Sorry for delays and complete lack of updates since this grow started. Life can get crazy and things need to go on the back burner. The grow is still chugging along, the magic (flowering) hasn't started yet. This grow did get off to a very rough start and had lost a number of the seedlings when my intake and exhaust fans broke, turning my veg box into heat box. After all the damage was said and done I lost half of the 18 seedlings I had started. I initially began with 6 Headbangers and sadly only 2 of them survived the madness, one of them being a runt.
Mistakes happen, lessons are learned all in the process of becoming a better grower. Trying to look on the bright side of my mistakes and misfortunes, I have the theory that only the best plants survived. The survivors are very impressive plants with a lot of vigor, great structure and excellent smells. I like to think that my unintentional stress test eliminated all the weak links, leaving only the dankest plants standing.
Another positive note is I was blessed with 2 lady Headbangers from the only survivors. What could be a little flaw in my theory that only the strong survive is that one of the ladies is a super runt. In fairness to her, she was basically brought back from the dead, I never thought she was going to survive. After the mishap she remained stunted for about 4 weeks before starting to grow again. She was far behind every other plant but I kept her around because room was not an issue. The problem is that she has never shown much vigor at all, her growth is painstakingly slow. She will need to keep vegging before she is large enough to flower out, let alone take cuts from. To keep my theory intact, Im choosing to believe that even though she is small and slow, she is going to spit out the FIYAH! There is always the chance that she will display normal vigor once I can start growing a clone from her as well.
Headbanger #4
Well here she is, the runt of the pack but I still love all my children equally. I have had pretty good luck with runts in the past blessing me with some amazing smoke so fingers crossed. She has started to pick up her growth rate a tad the past 2 weeks but its still pretty pathetic. To give an idea to everyone how slow she has been growing, you are able to see where she was topped. Well thats just over an inch growth and she was topped nearly 4 weeks ago. She currently stands at 12 inches from top of soil and was started on 5/10 if that paints a better picture.
Headbanger #5
I really love this girl, good vigor, easy to keep happy, tight node spacing and excellent branching. This girl has not been topped, I was really wanting to see what her normal growth structure is like. The only reason the runt was topped was a way to help promote growth to what little side branches she had. This girl is nearly 2x as tall and probably 8x as bushy as her little sister. This girl has a really nice spicy skunky stink to her, cant wait to get her into flower. I already have some rooted cuts from her, I plan to get her transplanted one last time into a 3gal pot. Will give her probably a week after transplant before I flip her into flower. If all goes to plan, I hope to have her into bloom in the next week or two.
More updates coming soon.
